Donald Trump is embroiled in a heated battle with a Democratic congresswoman who says the president told the grieving widow of slain U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson that he “knew what he signed up for” during a condolence call.

In his latest attack on U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida, Trump blasted the congresswoman as “wacky” and accused her of “secretly” listening in on his call on Tuesday to Johnson’s pregnant widow, Myeshia Johnson.

Wilson is a personal friend of the Johnson family and was in the car when Myeshia took the president’s call on speakerphone.

On Sept. 24, Staff Sgt. Dustin Wright, a Green Beret, celebrated his 29th birthday. It included what would be a final call with his brother Will.

There was talk of future plans, and Dustin’s blossoming romance with his girlfriend, which Will, 30, of Lyons, Georgia, tells People was leading to a marriage proposal.

“I wanted him to know I loved him and I was proud of him,” says Will. “And the last thing I said to my brother and the last thing he said to me was, ‘I love you and we’ll talk soon.’ ”

President Trump has claimed that he alone — not Barack Obama or other past presidents — has called “virtually” all families of U.S. soldiers who have died in service since Trump took office in January.

But Gold Star families have since lashed out at Trump over his false claims about past presidents, recalling how they were comforted by Obama and former President George W. Bush as they grieved. Trump was soon forced to walk back what Obama aides called an “outrageous lie,” admitting that his predecessor “probably sometimes and maybe sometimes he didn’t. I don’t know.”
