Born and grew up in Colombia, and moved to the United States at the age of fifteen to go to school.

Studied liberal arts at Boston University and later attended the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Had an internship which grew to a full-time job working in Perry Ellis's public relations department.

In 2015, Garcia learned she had a BRCA1 gene mutation and was at high risk for breast cancer. She spent the next three years getting regular mammograms and breast checks, and in January 2019, she and her doctors decided she should have the preventative double mastectomy.
