Legendary music producer Irv Gotti (born Irving Lorenzo Jr.) died on Feb. 5 at the age of 54.

Many fellow musicians have taken to social media to pay their respects to the artist. While most tributes are warm, Gotti’s longtime rival, 50 Cent, decided to use the death to virtually “end” the two’s feud.

Gotti and 50 Cent (born Curtis James Jackson III) had a public feud for 25 years. In 1999, artist Ja Rule (also signed to Gotti’s label Murder Inc. Label at the time) accused one of 50 Cent’s associates of robbing him in Queens. 50 Cent then released his song “Your Life’s on the Line,” which directly criticized Gotti and Ja Rule.

A year later, at New York’s Hit Factory Studio, Ja Rule and 50 Cent had an altercation, which led to rapper Black Child stabbing 50 Cent, allegedly in self-defense. After 50 Cent was shot nine times in 2000, a 2005 federal...

Netflix has unveiled six filmmakers who will receive funding and professional support to make a short documentary as winners of the third year of the Netflix Documentary Talent Fund.

“Following a rigorous application process and thousands of applications, a shortlist of 12 filmmaking teams from across the U.K. and Ireland were invited to Netflix’s U.K. headquarters to pitch in front of a panel of industry experts this month,” the streamer said. They were asked to pitch ideas inspired by the prompt, “you’re never gonna believe this….”

Hannah Waddingham, Bella Ramsey, drama series Happy Valley and Squid Game: The Challenge were among the winners at the 2024 Royal Television Society program awards. The Rts unveiled the honorees in London on Tuesday evening.

The Sixth Commandment won the most awards with three, including for best limited series and best supporting actor Éanna Hardwicke. Comedy Extraordinary and drama Top Boy were among the other winners.

Waddingham was honored for her work as one of the hosts of the Eurovision Song Contest, while Ramsey won for their role in the prison anthology drama series Time.

The BBC led the winners across the more than two dozen award categories, being able to celebrate a total of 21 honors.

Last year, Kate Winslet and Kit Connor were among the Rts honorees. The organization last year also introduced several new awards categories.

British Urban Film Festival drew to a close on October 20.

Andy Mundy-Castle’s documentary White Nanny, Black Child was among the winners at the British Urban Film Festival, which ran until October 20, and was held outside London for the first time in its history, at Halifax’s Crossley Gallery.

White Nanny, Black Child premiered at Sheffield Doc Fest and explores an untold part of UK history when over 70,000 children from West African families, principally Nigerian, were unofficially fostered without regulation into white British families between the 1950s and 1990s. Natasha Dack of Tigerlily Productions co-produces with Doc Hearts.

My beloved New York City had, until recently, a law on the books known as “Stop and Frisk.” In a nutshell, it meant if a police officer suspects, for any reason, that you may be up to no good, they can detain and search you. Guess who the majority of people being stopped are?

The law has done nothing to curb crime, and the vast majority of people stopped are young black men. What’s funny is the vast majority of people found with weapons were white guys.
