Kyle Newmaster, a composer originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota has been providing music for film, television, games and the concert stage for over 15 years. Newmaster holds a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and earned a master's degree in Composing for Contemporary Media from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
Newmaster recently composed the score for the epic CBS summer adventure series "Blood & Treasure", created by Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia. In 2018 he also composed the opening chapter for the anthology horror film "Nightmare Cinema" (Segment "The Thing in the Woods" directed by Alejandro Brugues) starring Mickey Rourke. He also completed score producing and lead orchestrating the music for Disasterpeace in David Robert Mitchell's Noir Thriller "Under the Silver Lake," (2018) starring Andrew Garfield. Some of Newmaster's other film credits include the score to the well received family drama "Where Hope Grows," (2015) directed by Chris Dowling; "The ABC's of Death 2, Segment E," (2014) directed by Alejandro Brugues; and "The Myth of the American Sleepover," (2011) written and directed by David Robert Mitchell which was an official selection at the 2011 Cannes Festival du Film. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times called the teen coming-of-age drama, "Poetic... A lovely, gentle and very true film."
In the video game world, Kyle also helped bring the pop culture phenomenon back to avid gamers by co-scoring the LucasArts'/Microsoft title "Kinect Star Wars"(2012). The epic game score was recorded at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London, with the London Symphony Orchestra. Newmaster has also provided additional music for titles including "Star Wars: Battlefront 2" (2017), "Star Wars: Battlefront" (2015), "Star Wars: The Old Republic" (2011), "Spy Hunter" (2012), "Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings" (2010) and "The Walking Dead: Survival instinct" (2013).
Born and raised in Minnesota, Newmaster's deep-rooted interest and talent in music comes from his family. His great grandfather was a published composer for military bands, and his father studied classical music and played a key role in Newmaster's musical training at a very young age.
Newmaster is often sought out to compose and arrange for a variety of orchestras and large ensembles. Some of his previous commissions, arrangements and compositions have been performed by orchestras including the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, the Cape Symphony, The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Indianapolis symphony, the WDR Big band and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. These works have featured a variety of the ensemble's guest artists including Branford Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Mavis Staples, Ann Hampton Calloway, and many more.
When he is not writing music, Newmaster is an active professional trumpet player and continues to perform and record in a variety of groups. Kyle has toured with "The Brian Setzer Orchestra", performed in the "Seth Macfarlane Big Band", and has recorded for numerous TV shows and films including Family Guy, Cleveland, America's Got Talent, The Middle and American Dad. He also frequently lectures on composing and the music business at the University level. These speaking engagements recently included an online talk at the University of Pennsylvania Pembroke and he was guest lecturer at his alma mater, UW-Eau Claire.
