Kathryn Bigelow already has two Academy Awards to her name, and she will be back for a buzzy awards run later this year. After making her directorial debut with the biker movie The Loveless (1981), Bigelow made a name for herself directing thrillers, such as Near Dark (1987), Blue Steel (1990), Point Break (1991), Strange Days (1995), and K-19: The Widowmaker (2002).
She gained critical acclaim for The Hurt Locker (2008), about a bomb squad in Iraq, and Bigelow became the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director, with the war movie also winning Best Picture. She followed that up with the political thriller Zero Dark Thirty (2012), about the manhunt for Osama bin Laden, and earned another Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
However, her last movie was the crime drama Detroit (2017), but now, the first look at Bigelow's first film in eight years has been revealed.

The San Quentin Film Festival — which, last year, became the first-ever film festival held inside of a prison — has set the industry jury for its second annual event, including Vanessa Williams, Esai Morales, Jesse Williams, Celine Song and more.
These jurors will judge narrative and documentary short films from currently and formerly incarcerated filmmakers as well the pitch competitions for best screenplay and best documentary from currently incarcerated writers.
This year’s jury also features two formerly incarcerated people: actor and writer Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin, who starred in 2024’s “Sing Sing,” as well as actor, author and poet Richard Cabral, best known for “Mayans M.C.” and “American Crime.”
Other notable jurors include Kyra Sedgwick and Claudia Weill. Last year’s industry jury included Jeffrey Wright, Billy Crudup, Mary-Louise Parker and more.

Out of all movie genres, Westerns have a charm that attracts all kinds of viewers. There’s something about the dry, rugged, brutal world that keeps the viewers engaged and connected to the story. This charm has now helped Peter Dinklage’s The Thicket to dethrone Jason Statham’s Homefront on streaming charts. Per FlixPatrol, a day after the Tubi original’s debut on Amazon Prime, the movie has risen to the #8 spot, while Statham’s Homefront dropped to #10. With The Thicket debuting in the top 10, we can expect the movie to rise to a better spot on the charts in the coming days and weeks.
Directed by Elliott Lester, The Thicket follows an orphan who puts together a ragtag team of unlikely heroes to rescue his kidnapped sister from a brutal killer. Things take a deadly turn when, during the quest, the band comes across a deadly no-man's-land called The Thicket.

At the height of his Game of Thrones career, when Tyrion Lannister was a name on everyone's lips, the ever-brilliant Peter Dinklage signed on to a brooding Western project that promised an ensemble including the likes of Sophia Lillis, Noomi Rapace, and Charlie Plummer. Alas, after entering development hell and that trio all leaving the project, The Thicket was put on the back burner, only to finally return last year with little to no fanfare.
Nevertheless, the film was a hit with critics and audiences alike, earning a pair of 80% ratings from both on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Now starring the likes of Juliette Lewis of Yellowjackets fame, Levon Hawke, Esmé Creed-Miles, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Leslie Grace, and more, The Thicket went under many people's radar when it released on September 6. Kathryn Bigelow’s new film is officially called A House Of Dynamite, and we’ll be seeing it this October. More on it here.
Kathryn Bigelow’s next film feels like it’s been a long time coming. After what seemed a long period of development, it was rather dismaying to learn in the spring of last year that Netflix wouldn’t be moving forward with Aurora, an apocalyptic thriller written by Jurassic Park scribe, David Koepp.
As you may know, there was a change in leadership at the streaming platform’s film division around that time, and Bigelow’s project – her first since 2017’s Detroit – was one casualty of many. Mind you, some reports have suggested that Bigelow may have actually exited the project, leading to its cancellation.
Either way, it wasn’t welcome news, but was sweetened by the reveal that Bigelow is collaborating with the streaming platform...

At long last, Netflix is pulling back the curtain on Kathryn Bigelow's mysterious new movie at the streaming service. Since last year, the Oscar-winning director behind The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, and Point Break has been quietly assembling a star-studded cast for her first feature in eight years, including Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson. Only now, however, do we have an official title and release date for her long-awaited return, and it is not far off. The project will go under the name A House of Dynamite and is officially set to stream on the platform on October 24. In a rare move by Netflix, it will also be available in select theaters during the month.
Featuring a screenplay penned by Noah Oppenheim, who previously created Netflix's Robert De Niro-led political thriller series Zero Day, A House of Dynamite is also a thriller centered on the White House.

Amazon is going to take a crack at Barbershop as a TV series two decades after the last attempt didn't work out so well. Peter Dinklage and Juliette Lewis star in a horse opera set in a snowbound world of bars, brothels and wide open spaces
Here is a western starring Peter Dinklage, but forget hot sun-baked gullies and leather-skinned cowboys riding sweatily through rattlesnake country. The Thicket takes place in a hard, snowbound wilderness interspersed with equally hard, snowbound little townships consisting mainly of bars and brothels. You can see the breath in the air and the blood on the snow. The plot is staple horse opera: a kidnapped maiden must be rescued by a motley group of good-ish guys with mixed motives, headed up by Dinklage playing a bounty hunter character offering a similar vein of dry, world-weary cynicism as his breakthrough role as Tyrion in Game of Thrones, only much less aristocratic. Two months after the Season 2 finale, the future of The Old Man on FX has been revealed. Unfortunately, it's not good news for fans of the series.
Per Deadline, FX has officially canceled The Old Man after two seasons, so there will not be a third season of the Jeff Bridges-led series. The show meeting its fate comes after wading through some troubled waters with its production for its two seasons. Season 1 began development in 2019 and was forced to shut down with just three episodes left to film because of the pandemic in 2020. Filming was further postponed as Bridges underwent cancer treatment; he announced in 2021 that his cancer was in remission, and production on The Old Man resumed in 2022.

Production on season two stopped during last year’s dual labor strikes, leading to a gap of more than two years between seasons – not unusual for a streaming series but hard to overcome for a show that originates on a linear channel, as The Old Man did on FX. The cancellation comes about eight weeks after season two aired its finale in late October.
FX declined comment.
The second — and now final — season is up for three Critics Choice Awards in January: best drama series, best actor in a drama for Bridges and best supporting actor in a drama for John Lithgow.

Exclusive: Jeff Bridges’ Dan Chase is going permanently off the grid. FX has opted not to renew drama The Old Man for a third season.
The series, which also stars John Lithgow, Amy Brenneman and Alia Shawkat, became largely a victim of circumstance. Over its two seasons, The Old Man’s production was halted several times.
Its seven-episode first season started filming in 2019 and had three episodes left when it shut down at the start of the pandemic and later that year for star Bridges’ cancer treatment.
The Old Man launched on FX in June 2022, scoring the most-watched cable series premiere since January 2021, beating 60 other premium and basic cable dramas, comedies and limited series, while also becoming the most-watched FX series debut on Hulu in its opening weekend.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Old Man Season 2, Episode 8, “Xv.”] The Old Man may have hinted at Dan Chase’s (Jeff Bridges) demise at the end of Season 2’s penultimate episode, but the finale proved the former CIA agent has some life in him yet as he was saved by love Zoe (Amy Brenneman) and brought to a safe house for recovery after being injected with a deadly poison. In the thrilling episode, Zoe teams up with Morgan Boat’s (Joel Grey) hired hitman Julian (Gbenga Akinnagbe) to help eliminate Russian power player Suleyman Pavlovich (Rade Serbedzija) and locate Dan, who had been targeted by the man. Managing to kill Pavlovich and secure Dan’s location, Zoe rushes off to inject him with an antidote and bring him to safety. Theres nothing more exciting than seeing an A-List actor cast in an awesome action TV show. The best action TV shows ever generally feature actors who are relatively unknown or tend to stick to the smaller screen. So, when a massive name is attached to a project, viewers are far more likely to take an interest in it.
While some action TV shows are canceled too soon, the appearance of an A-lister often helps keep a series on the air. This is proved in other genres, too, and there are many great crime TV shows with A-List actors. From action-packed sequences with brilliant explosions and tense situations to subtler scenes with unexpected deaths and violence, these A-List actors are fantastic additions to these TV shows.

Gbenga Akinnagbe, Leslie Grace, and Levon Hawke couldnt have come from more wonderfully disparate origins. Akinnagbe had been stamping an unmistakable imprint on many beloved original series, while Grace climbed the Billboard Charts, then the Gotham City skyline. Hawke, by contrast, cut his teeth acting under Zo Kravitz in her directorial debut Blink Twice and lovingly composing music with his sister, Maya Hawke. Now Grace, Hawke, and Akinnagbe are performing together as an ensemble in Elliott Lesters new Western The Thicket.

Set in the untamed frontier of 1870s Texas, The Thicket follows Reginald Jones, a hardened bounty hunter, as he’s enlisted by young Christian Jack to find his kidnapped sister Lula. Jack suspects the violent outlaw Cutthroat Bill, nicknamed for murdering victims with a knife, is responsible for Lula’s abduction. What begins as a search for a missing girl soon transforms into a merciless struggle for survival in a world where danger lurks around every corner.
Adapted from Joe R. Lansdale’s gripping 2013 novel, director Elliott Lester brings a signature gritty realism to depicting the lawless dangers of the old frontier. In the highly competitive world of streaming services, Tubi has made a name for itself. It’s a weird name, sure, but it’s a name. Tubi is free with commercials, which companies like Netflix probably think is madness, but more importantly it’s packed with movies and TV shows that pretty much all the other streamers don’t give a crap about.
You can find big releases licensed from major studios, but you can get those anywhere. Try finding the 1988 Canadian TV series “T and T” — about Mister T working as a legal aid — on Netflix or Disney+. They would never. Tubi is the equivalent of the quirky mom and pop video store located just down the street from a parasitic Blockbuster that can’t quite put them out of business, because Blockbuster doesn’t carry esoteric oddities like the 1990 ultra-low budget compilation video “That’s Action” hosted by Robert Culp.

The Thicket's Peter Dinklage & Juliette Lewis On Passion Project, Transforming Into Villain & Action

After a decade of pushing to get the adaptation off the ground, Peter Dinklage's The Thicket is finally being realized. Based on Joe R. The movie wouldn't gain proper steam until 2020, when pre-production began with director Elliott Lester and stars Noomi Rapace, Charlie Plummer and Sophia Lillis, though the trio would be replaced due to scheduling conflicts after the movie was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wait, you’re telling me there’s a Tubi original film that doesn’t—how do I put this—suck? Just from the look of the poster, The Thicket seems like a bad career move for Emmy-winner Peter Dinklage, an understandable one for Juliette Lewis, and an act of desperation from a director specializing in pop-star music videos.
I couldn’t have been more wrong. Elliott Lester’s The Thicket is a masterstroke in pace and tone. Like Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven decades prior strips away the facade of the Old West. No, Lester’s great Western trailblazer strips away the lore, presenting a ruthless and cutthroat world unlike any we’ve seen in the genre in years.
Lester’s film captures the true dangers of the frontier, pitiless to the weak. Yet no matter how tough and seasoned these characters are, everyone calls out for their mamas by the end.

Plot: Former CIA agent Dan Chase and former FBI Assistant Director Harold Harper set off on their most important mission to date — to recover Emily Chase after she is kidnapped by Faraz Hamzad, a powerful Afghan tribal leader. With all three men claiming her as their daughter, Emily finds herself in an identity crisis that has dire implications.
Review: The first season of The Old Man was a unique take on the espionage drama, pitting the great Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow opposite one another despite not sharing the screen until the final episode. Truncated by Bridges’ cancer diagnosis and recovery along with a bout of Covid, the first season of The Old Man concluded with three episodes less than originally intended. Still, the series presented two of our best acting talents, complemented by solid performances from Alia Shawkat and Amy Brenneman, as the series set up an even more exciting sophomore run.

Peter Dinklage hunts a ferocious Juliette Lewis in a riveting period thriller that captivates from the first savage frame. Adapted from the acclaimed novel by bestselling author Joe R. Lansdale, The Thicket shows zero mercy to the weak and forlorn in a brutal, icy setting. It is kill or be killed as a desperate man searches for the bank robber who kidnapped his innocent younger sister. Human nature's ugliest tenets are put on display as those with a semblance of honor and decency battle for survival against iniquitous villains.

After a season dedicated to a game of cat and mouse, Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow are teaming up in the first trailer for “The Old Man” Season 2. The FX drama is set to premiere on Sept. 12.
“This was a warning. The next time you aren’t going to see it coming.” Those loaded words from Bridges’ Dan Chase and a pointed gun kick off this first look into the upcoming season.
The trailer then sets the stakes of this season, explaining that FBI agent Emily Chase (Alia Shawkat) has been abducted by a powerful Afghan tribal leader. The only problem is Emily has both Chase and Harold Harper (Lithgow) — a ruthless former CIA agent and a former FBI Assistant Director, respectfully — as her potential fathers. As Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” plays, the camera pans across the Afghanistan desert as Emily’s tortured screams can be heard.

“This was a warning, the next time… you aren’t going to see it coming.” It’s been two years since we last saw former CIA agent Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges), but FX has released the new trailer for The Old Man season 2.

With all three men claiming her as their daughter, Emily finds herself in an identity crisis that has dire implications.
The synopsis continues: “As Chase and Harper fight their way to get to Emily, Hamzad is forced to make decisions that could endanger his family and the village he has led faithfully for a lifetime. “Khadija” (Jacqueline Antaramian), Hamzad’s sister and trusted advisor,...
