This post contains spoilers for episode 5 of "Reacher" season 3.
Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) is a simple man. He forges his own codes of honor, beats up the bad guys, and stands up for what's right. In many ways, the core appeal of Lee Child's Reacher novel series is that his hero is impossibly strong and that he is easily the biggest man in every room he walks into. Whether he is dangling thugs off buildings or smashing car doors in their faces, Reacher knows that strength can turn the tides of even the most rigged fights and shootouts.
Season 3 of "Reacher" forces Jack Reacher to rein in this dependable strength, as he must play the long game after infiltrating Zachary Beck's (Anthony Michael Hall) shady inner circle. Moreover, Reacher is no longer the biggest man in the room, thanks to Paulie (Olivier Ritchers), Beck's 7'2" bodyguard who looms...

Season 3 of "Reacher" has been a lot of fun so far. Alan Ritchson's massive ex-military hero has been skulking around a mansion trying to solve the disappearance of a DEA informant in the Jack Reacher-as-sleuth story we didn't know we needed. The hulking henchman Paulie, who somehow makes Reacher himself look small, is one of the show's best villains yet, and will surely make for one heck of a final showdown when he and Reacher inevitably face off. We've also been treated to one of the funniest action scenes in "Reacher" yet, which also happens to be one of Ritchson's finest moments, and the episodes haven't been short of the kind of ridiculous over-the-top action we've come to expect from Amazon's hugely-popular series.
But season 3 of "Reacher" hasn't been without its share of tragic moments, either. In episode 4, we learned a lot more about Reacher's military past in an...

Hallmark has revealed that it will have 40 all-new, original movies for both its flagship channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, as well as special content for Hallmark Movies Now, the company’s subscription streaming service.
Even though the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes impacted TV and film productions, Hallmark anticipated the labor dispute by getting a head start on production in Canada. “Christmas is a year-round business at Hallmark, so we were able to mitigate early in the year understanding that the strikes were unfortunately imminent,” Lisa Hamilton Daly, EVP of programming at Hallmark Media, was recently quoted as saying. “We’re grateful to meet all our goals for a full, all-new holiday slate and to bring our viewers the content they love most to celebrate the season.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds successfully developed its crew in just 2 seasons, a problem that has plagued Star Trek: Discovery for 4 seasons. Strange New Worlds features an ensemble cast and episodic storytelling, allowing for the development of each character and showcasing life aboard the Starship Enterprise. Unlike Discovery, Strange New Worlds is built to eventually feature everyone, creating a genuine found family dynamic among the crew members. Hopefully, Discovery season 5 will also flesh out its crew in its final season.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is the show's final chance to fix one of its oldest problems. Discovery's first season premiered in 2017, kicking off the modern era of Star Trek television and reigniting interest in the franchise worldwide. While Discovery has had its fair share of controversies, the series has also garnered a loyal audience during its four seasons and is undeniably popular with many. This is no small part due to Discovery's cast of characters, whose dynamics and storylines have kept viewers coming back for more season after season.
Since its first season, Star Trek: Discovery has focused heavily on Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) as its main character, making her story the primary point of the show's narrative. Along with Michael, the series has highlighted a few other characters to feature significant storylines about, including Saru (Doug Jones), Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), and Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp). The Canadian Screen Awards has unveiled nominations for the national film and TV prize-giving, and the CBC civil rights drama The Porter leads the film and TV field with 19 mentions in all, including for best small-screen drama.
The first Canadian drama series from an all-Black creative team, which also streams on BET+, centers on the lives of Black train porters and their families as they launch North America’s first Black labor union in the 1920s.
The TV categories, voted on by around 3,000 Canadian industry insiders, also sees the CBC series Detention Adventure and Sort Of – a Peabody award-winning show about a gender fluid young Muslim in Toronto played by Bilal Baig — nab 15 nominations each in an awards show shaping up to be a major showcase for people of color.
That follows Canadian film, and TV industry efforts to ensure diversity and inclusivity in the country’s indie production sector and prize-giving process.

There's a lot of unusual redundancy in Star Trek: Discovery, and the USS Discovery has doubled many of the ranks seen in other Star Trek shows. Star Trek: Discovery season 5 promises a shift in tone to more adventure and exploration, as Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her crew go on a hunt for "the greatest treasure in the known galaxy." As with prior seasons, the Discovery will launch into this new mission with a crew complement that contains more than one Starfleet Officer serving in a key capacity.
Star Trek: Discovery broke the established Star Trek mold from the get-go. Discovery's central character is Michael Burnham instead of the series revolving around a Captain and bridge crew. In fact, the USS Discovery's Captaincy was a game of musical chairs wherein Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs), Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), and Captain Saru (Doug Jones), commanded the Disco before...

Hallmark Christmas movies remain as cozy as ever, with tree-lighting, cookie-decorating and magical snowfall still the currency of the realm. But since the arrival of Wonya Lucas as the new CEO of Hallmark Media (formerly Crown Media) in 2020, the network’s offerings have branched out in many ways: Lots more diversity, of course — including, this year, Hallmark’s first holiday romance centered on a same-sex relationship and the network’s first film focused on Kwanzaa — but also new and different plots.
The memes show no sign of dying, but the movies themselves don’t always match the traditional roadmap. Two of this year’s new movies didn’t end with a kiss, a change previously unthinkable in Hallmark-land.
How do I know all this? Because I watched all 43 new 2022 Hallmark holiday movies (including the three that premiered in July on Hallmark Channel and the nine that premiered on Hallmark Movies...

The CBC and BET+ are putting out another call for The Porter.
There’s no official announcement just yet, but the Canadian and U.S. TV platforms are set to renew the civil rights drama about 1920s Black train employees and their families in Montreal and Chicago for a second season.
Showrunner Annmarie Morais and director Charles Officer talked to The Hollywood Reporter as scripts are being readied to continue portraying Black train porters’ efforts to launch North America’s first Black labor union.
The second season will also take another step toward reframing Black Canadian history as the first Canadian drama to boast an all-Black creative team, on whose shoulders rest the pressure to succeed and create opportunities for others to tell their own stories that center Black identity. The Porter‘s second season is especially meaningful in light of the fact...

In this week’s episode, Burnham and the Discovery crew will travel to his homeworld in order to rescue it from the powerful crime syndicate, the Emerald Chain, and you can get a flavor for what’s in store from the promo images down below. If you're already adrift without another Hallmark Original Series to watch, you're not alone.
But we have good news today as Crown Media announced new original programming and some renewals we've been waiting for.
Most importantly, there are two renewals to announce that join When Calls the Heart for (fingers crossed) a 2021 release.
Good Witch will return for a seventh season, and Chesapeake Shores will return for a fifth season!
Hurrah!
As you know, Good Witch Season 6 just ended on quite the cliffhanger.
It was the first season in which Bailee Madison didn't appear as Grace, and in Rhys Matthew Bond only made guest appearances as Nick.
Without the younger cast, the adults got a lot more storylines, and love flourished.
Cassie (Catherine Bell) and Sam (James Denton) celebrated their one-year anniversary and began to grow under each other's influence.
The proved that there is always something left to learn about your partner.

"If you claim that you don't support something, challenge it." Samuel Goldwyn has unveiled a trailer for the indie film Black Cop, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and has been hitting tons of festivals over the last five months. The film is about a black police officer who is pushed to the edge, taking out his frustrations on the privileged community he's sworn to protect. Up-and-coming actor Ronnie Rowe (seen on "Star Trek: Discovery") stars as "Black Cop", along with Sophia Walker, Sebastien Labelle, Simon Paul Mutuyimana, Christian Murray, Ambyr Dunn, and Jeff Schwager. This is labeled as a drama, but one of the quotes say it's "jet-black satire", and there's some dark humor in this trailer. It almost seems like Falling Down, about a black cop who gets pissed off and starts throwing white cops into the dumpster. Here's the official release trailer (+ poster) for Cory Bowles' Black Cop,...

Black Cop screens Sunday, November 5th at 8:30pm at The Tivoli Theater (6350 Delmar Blvd, St. Louis) as part of this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival. Writer and Director Corey Bowles will be in attendance. Ticket information can be found Here.
It’s not easy being a black cop: Your community doesn’t trust you, your colleagues are wary of you, and everyone assumes you hate Nwa. And when the world is on edge waiting for a grand-jury verdict on a high-profile police case involving an unarmed youth, all eyes are on you. For one black cop (Ronnie Rowe), who’s already pulled between duty and moral obligation, the situation only worsens when he is profiled by his colleagues when off-duty. Nearly killed by his fellow cops, he’s finally pushed over the edge. Armed with the power of his badge, stoked by an antagonizing radio show, and...

Prototype (Blake Williams)The 36th Vancouver Film Festival recently wrapped, and with it, the second year of the Future//Present program, a selection of eight features (and a number of shorts) dedicated to emerging Canadian filmmakers. If the inaugural edition had the task of distinguishing itself from the rest of the festival's True North “stream,” this year's offered the opportunity to cement its relevancy and expand its vision. That's something for which the admirably varied program proved more or less able, albeit with higher highs and lower lows than in 2016, which speaks, at least, to chances being taken (something that can't necessarily be said of the festival's programming in general). Taken on the whole, there are—beyond the uniting sensibility of critic and programmer Adam Cook—filmmaking trends that one could identify, and patterns that one could connect, for better and for worse, to the larger contemporary arthouse scene. But the most successful selections,...

Between its success at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it premiered earlier this year, and here at Viff, where it won the Canadian Feature award, Black Cop has become something of a sensation. Its concept is an undeniably timely, intriguing one -- a black police officer 'flips the script' by profiling and roughing up white people -- and director Cory Bowles executes it admirably. The idea is ripe for comedic satire, but Black Cop doesn't shy away from the gravity of racial profiling and police brutality, even during its lighter moments. Taking place in our world, in the present, the film begins with footage from various Black Lives Matter protests. We follow an unnamed protagonist (a powerful Ronnie Rowe Jr.) as he navigates both...
