Kaaris and Alassane Diong in Le Roi des Ombres (2023)
“In His Shadow” Netflix Movie. Review: A Good Narrative around a Solid Screenplay
Kaaris and Alassane Diong in Le Roi des Ombres (2023)
In His Shadow (Le Roi des Ombres) is a thriller movie written and directed by Marc Fouchard starring Kaaris and Alassane Diong.

An original thriller because of its protagonist and which tells us the story of two brothers very much in the Goodfellas vein: style, sense of rhythm and balancedly imbalanced narrative.

About the Film

Surprising and very well directed, one of those films that know how to attract attention due to its narrative style and its good script, which is delivered through a voice-over and tells us a story of the kind that is worth being told and that knows how to recount, defend and develop it.

This time we go to France, perhaps less elegant, but also a reality, much like Little Italy in New York that we have heard so much about. It’s no coincidence, In His Shadow wants to look like a different Scorsese, maybe...

Review: The 2017 Oscar-Nominated Short Films: Live-Action
Ahead of the Academy Awards, we’re reviewing each short category. See the Live-Action section below and the other shorts sections here.

Ennemis intérieurs – France – 28 minutes

The definitive exchange in Hidden Figures—the one that defines America then and still today—is when Kirsten Dunst’s personnel manager tells Octavia Spencer’s yet-to-be-given-the-title supervisor, “Despite what you may think, I have nothing against y’all.” Spencer’s Dorothy Vaughan counters without missing a beat, “I know you probably believe that.” It’s such a perfect distillation of how racism permeates the very core of who we are to the point where we don’t even understand why we are racist. It happens all the time now, white people accusing black people of screaming racism as a knee-jerk reaction because they believe their racist actions are normal. Their fear has made it so other colors are inferior, dangerous, and untrustworthy. In...

2017 Oscar Nominated Live-Action Shorts Review: Current Events Are the Stars of This All-Foreign Group
Action (1999)
As is awards season tradition, ShortsHD will be releasing this year’s short film Oscar nominees — including live-action, animated and documentary — into theaters around the country this week, all in hopes that cinephiles will spark to the idea of checking out a big batch of contenders they most likely haven’t yet had the chance to watch. This year’s live-action batch includes a number of intriguing foreign entries — and not an American offering in the bunch — all of which are loosely unified around such timely concepts as connection (emotional and physical) and the current political climate.

From stories about children’s choirs gone wild, unexpected romances and even a gut-churning immigration story that couldn’t be more prescient, this year’s live-action nominees fit together into a satisfying, smart little package.

Cheadle Co-Star Sparks Terrorism Concern
Hassam Ghancy in Happy end (2017)
Don Cheadle's co-star in new movie Traitor sparked a homeland security emergency when he went online to find information about terrorist groups.

Actor Hassam Ghancy opted to research his role in the new thriller - and quickly realised it isn't wise to tap 'terrorist' into online search engines.

Cheadle explains to WENN, "When Hassam got this part he was going online to look up terrorist organisations and trying to surf the web and find all these things, and he got an e-mail saying, 'Why are you doing this? Why are you looking into this?'

"The powers that be shut his e-mail down. So you got to be careful. You can only say so much that you're an actor doing research (sic)."...
