This year’s Sydney film festival program has just been announced and, as usual, it is bulging with treats from around the world. The event kicks off on 5 June with a screening of Paul Clarke’s documentary Midnight Oil: The Hardest Line, and runs until 16 June at various venues across the city.
Here are 10 films you might want to check out – in addition to three others on the program that I’ve written about previously: The Moogai, Every Little Thing and Mozart’s Sister.

Roadshow Films has continued it push into television production, acquiring a 50 per cent stake in Blink TV.
Headed by Paul Clarke.and based out of Sydney, Blink TV is focused on unscripted production.
Clarke (Spicks and Specks, Whitlam: the Power and the Passion).has been the key creative executive for Sbs' coverage of the.Eurovision Song Contest.since 2009, and led the negotiations for Australia.s involvement and entries into the song comp. The producer has also been behind the talks to establish a Eurovision concept in the Asia Pacific region for Sbs.
In a statement, Roadshow Films Co-ceo Chris Chard said the investment into Blink TV was consistent with Roadshow.s strategy to expand its production interests beyond scripted drama. The latest rounds from Screen Australia.s Documentary Production Broadcast and Producer programs have seen 16 documentaries receive close to $4.4 million in funding..
This investment is expected to generate a total production expenditure of close to $16.7 million.
In a statement released to the media, Screen Australia.s Senior Manager, Documentary, Liz Stevens, said, .In the second round of the Producer program we are pleased to see producers aiming at ambitious and multi-layered release plans for stories that will appeal. The documentaries coming through the Broadcast program offer audiences good insights and a few surprises into many compelling Australian stories..
The Producer program enables filmmakers the flexibility to find the best pathway to their audience, whatever and whoever they might be.
The Documentary Production Producer and Broadcast programs now accept applications through the Online Application Portal. The next deadline for the Producer program is 18 September 2015. From 1 July 2015, the Broadcast program will accept applications at any time.

First Footprints, Jabbed, Fallout and Once My Mother were among the winners of the 2013 Ipaf Atom awards presented in Melbourne on Thursday night.
Founded in 1982 and voted by members of the Australian Teachers of Media, the awards recognise film and media excellence in the education and screen industry sectors.
There were more than 600 entries from Australian and New Zealand media producers in 29 categories. The event was hosted by Brian Nankervis from RocKwiz. The Intellectual Property Awareness Foundation (Ipaf) was the naming sponsor this year.

The story of former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam’s time in power and the changes of the era is among five documentary projects to receive $2m of investment from Screen Australia
Whitlam, produced by Beyond Screen Productions and Bombora Film and Music Co, will be a 2×55-minute documentary written and directed by Paul Clarke with Penny Robins producing, and Robins and Mark Hamlyn executive producing.
To air on the ABC, the documentary’s synopsis reads: “Whitlam examines an era and the man when as a country we were at our most confident and flamboyant, when we took risks and went to the margins. It was a time of power, of passion… and which divided us as a nation in a way that hadn’t happened before – nor since.”

The Nsw Government has used almost a quarter of its recently announced $25m budget for the film industry to fund five features, four TV series, one telemovie, 12 docos and one cross-platform project.
The projects include Mei Mei, an Australia/China co-production starring Guy Pearce, and The Hunter, with American actor Willem Dafoe.
The biggest winner is Joanna Werner’s children’s drama Dance Academy, with $500,000 towards production of season two.
Vincent Sheehan’s production The Hunter will be shot in Tasmania and China, with a majority of crew from Nsw and post-production also taking place in this state – it will receive $400,000 from the Government.
The production expenditure of these projects is expected to reach $62m.

The agency said the demands on this month’s round of the domestic documentary program were high, with ABC, Sbs and pay TV “using close to their full allocation for the financial year”. Therefore, Screen Australia will pool its funds across the domestic and international programs for a total alloction of $7.5m.
The next two rounds in the 2010/11 year will be worth $1.8m each.
