Vince McMahon’s second try at the Xfl announced its eight team names and logos on Wednesday morning.

The rebooted league, which had an ill-fated attempt that lasted just one season in 2001, will begin play next February on the weekend following Super Bowl Liv. Here are the eight teams, with teasers for each in the video above:

“The Xfl is about football and fun, and our team identities are intended to signify just that,” Xfl President and COO, Jeffrey Pollack said. “Now it’s up to our fans and players to help write the story. What happens on the field and in the community, in the years ahead, will determine the true spirit of each team.

Early on its first season, the Alliance of American Football seemed to be on the verge of scoring a pop-culture touchdown. An initial broadcast on CBS featuring games between the San Diego Fleet and the San Antonio Commanders, and the Atlanta Legends against the Orlando Apollos notched nearly 3 million viewers and fared quite well against an NBA telecast on ABC.

Last night, however, the Aaf’s game was called early.

In a statement released Tuesday, league co-founder Bill Polian said he was disappointed that Tom Dundon, the Carolina Hurricanes owner who took over the league early in its season, “has decided to suspend all football operations of the Alliance of American Football.” Dundon had injected $250 million into the operation, essentially taking it over from Polian and his co-founder Charlie Ebersol, a son of the former NBC Sports chief Dick Ebersol. A spokesman for the Aaf could not be reached for immediate comment on Wednesday.

The Alliance of American Football, an off-season upstart looking to offer a complementary spring alternative to the NFL has suspended operations after just eight weeks of games.

Bill Polian, a former NFL Gm who co-founded the Aaf with Charlie Ebersol, said the new league’s chief investor, Tom Dundon, had decided to pull the plug for a range of reasons. CBS, the NFL Network and Turner Sports’ B/R Live streaming service had carried games since the league opened its doors in February, but ratings had been soft and the Aaf faced a host of other operational issues.

Dundon, who owns the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, pledged to inject $250 million into the new venture but decided the NFL Players Association’s reluctance to allow its members to practice with Aaf teams was a dealbeaker. Eight weeks into its inaugural season, the Alliance of American Football has suspended its operations.

“I am extremely disappointed to learn Tom Dundon has decided to suspend all football operations of the Alliance of American Football,” Bill Polian, who co-founded the league with Charlie Ebersol, said in a statement Tuesday.

“When Mr. Dundon took over, it was the belief of my co-founder, Charlie Ebersol, and myself that we would finish the season, pay our creditors, and make the necessary adjustments to move forward in a manner that made economic sense for all. The momentum generated by our players, coaches and football staff had us well positioned for future success. Regrettably, we will not have that opportunity.”

Representatives for the Aaf did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment.

Charlie Ebersol hopes so. He will this Saturday kick off a new era of professional spring football, even though the recent history of U.S. sports is littered with scrapped attempts to give gridiron fans more of their favorite game. NFL fans won’t have to wait for long after Super Bowl Liii to get a new football fix.

The newly-formed Alliance of American Football launches its first season on Feb. 9, and Turner Sports announced on Thursday that they’ve signed a multi-year, cross-platform partnership with the league that will include live event coverage extending across a combination of Turner Sports platforms TNT and the B/R Live streaming service.

TNT will exclusively televise one Alliance regular season game and one playoff game each season throughout the length of the agreement, with additional regular season games available weekly via B/R Live.
