Dracula Goes Cosmic: Black Mandala Acquires ‘Vampire Zombies…From Space!’ Ahead of Cannes Market

New Zealand-based sales outfit Black Mandala has acquired rights to the award-winning horror-comedy “Vampire Zombies…From Space!” ahead of the Cannes Film Market.

The black-and-white genre mashup, directed by Mike Stasko, has been a festival favorite, collecting over 20 awards during its impressive festival run, including multiple audience choice awards and best feature honors.

Set in 1957, the film follows a motley crew — consisting of a grizzled detective, a skeptical rookie cop, a chain-smoking greaser, and a determined young woman — as they band together to stop Dracula’s cosmic plan to turn the small town of Marlow into his personal army of vampire zombies.

“From the depths of space, Dracula has devised his most dastardly plan yet,” reads the synopsis. “A full-blown zombie outbreak hits, prompting the arrival of the dramatic (and slightly unhinged) Colonel Talbit and his troops.”

In just a couple of hours, Vampire Zombies…From Space! will make its world premiere at Eerie Horror Fest, and we are excited to exclusively share the teaser trailer with Daily Dead readers. This throwback horror comedy pays tribute to genre cult classics, with a concept that could easily sit next to an Ed Wood film. Following tonight's premiere the movie has lined up additional screenings at film festivals around the world and we have all the details below.

Vampire Zombies…From Space!, the latest film from award-winning writer-director Mike Stasko and comedy writers Jakob Skrzypa and Alex Forman, is set to make its world premiere at the Eerie Horror Fest on October 4th at 9:30Pm at the historic Warner Theatre. Schitts Creek Actor to Make Directorial Debut With Crime Thriller Starring Vivica A. Fox

Filming has begun for Schitts Creek actor Scott Anthony Cavalheiro's directorial debut film, Plan C, starring Claire Cavalheiro, Daniel DeSanto and Vivica A. Fox.

While Cavalheiro is best known for his role as Miguel in Schitt's Creek, according to Variety, he's moving into the director's chair for a new crime thriller called Plan C. The film will tell the tale of Claire and Danny, played by Claire Cavalheiro (from Man Seeking Woman) and Daniel DeSanto (from Mean Girls), as they are on the lam after a robbery gone wrong. Joining them is veteran actor Vivica A. Fox, whose storied acting career includes playing Jasmine Dubrow in the original Independence Day and Vernita Green in Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2. ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Actor Scott Anthony Cavalheiro Helms New Crime Thriller ‘Plan C’ (Exclusive)

Principal photography has begun on “Plan C,” the feature directorial debut of Scott Anthony Cavalheiro, known for his acting role in “Schitt’s Creek.”

The film is currently shooting on location in the Greater Toronto Area and Windsor/Essex, with production scheduled to continue through August.

The crime thriller tells the story of siblings Clare and Danny on the run after a robbery gone awry. The film promises a mix of action and suspense, with car chases, difficult decisions and unexpected twists.

The cast features Claire Cavalheiro (“Man Seeking Woman”) and Daniel DeSanto (“Mean Girls”) in leading roles, with Hollywood veteran Vivica A. Fox rounding out the top-billed performers. Supporting cast includes Jamie Spilchuk (“Defining Moments”), Joris Jarsky (“Saw V”), Kris Holden-Ried and Kylee Evans (“Luckiest Girl Alive”).

Denis Villeneuve will have two films in the festival as it emerged that Canadian Features world premiere Enemy starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a man and his doppelganger [pictured] has joined the previously announced Prisoners, also starring Gyllenhaal.

The Canadian Features selection includes Michael Dowse’s Goon follow-up The F Word, Xavier Dolan’s Tom At The Farm and Chloe Robichaud’s Sarah Prefers To Run as well as work from Jeff Barnaby, Bruce McDonald and Bruce Labruce. Also receiving its world premiere is All The Wrong Reasons featuring the final performance by the late Glee star Cory Monteith.

Festival organisers also unveiled Producers Lab Toronto participants and Telefilm Canada Pitch This! finallists, the shorts programme and participants in the tenth Tiff Talent Lab.
