Gun Grut or Gun Bergman was a Swedish translator, journalist, writer, dancer and actress. After graduating from high school in her hometown of Linköping, she moved to Stockholm, attended dance school and worked as a dancer. She appeared in a couple of feature films before marrying Hugo Grut and becoming the mother of two sons. In 1949 she met Ingmar Bergman who she married in 1951. The two lived and worked together for a couple of years where "Kvinnors väntan/Secrets of Women" (1952) and "Tystnaden/The Silence" (1963) became their greatest joint effort. In 1964 Gun Bergman defended her thesis in Slavic language at Uppsala University on a edition of a Russian manuscript. However, her main professional contribution were as a translator from Serbo-Croatian. She translated several works by Yugoslav Ivo Andric, Nobel Prize laureate in Literature 1961. Gun Bergman died in a car accident in Yugoslavia in the summer of 1971.
