‘The Park Maniac’ True Story Explained: Where Is Francisco Now?
Image
A human brain during infancy is quite impressionable, and often, the events that take place during that period of time leave a long-lasting impact. The Park Maniac makes us privy to the life of a criminal named Francisco de Assis Pereira, who murdered and sexually abused many women in the late 90s. The man was ultimately caught by the authorities, and the world came to know about his twisted sensibilities once his views and opinions came to light after many leading newspapers published his story. Much of what’s shown in the film happened in real life, though Mauricio Eca and L.G. Bayao have taken a few creative liberties just to make the narrative more engaging. Francisco was born in Sao Paulo, and at a very early age, he was molested by his own relatives. Later in his youth, he entered into homosexual relationships, but the kind of bad...

‘Skeletons In The Closet’ Ending Explained & Movie Spoilers: Did Valentina Save Her Daughter?
Image
Maternal instincts and emotions make for a strong foundation in horror movie narratives, and when paired with well-crafted religio-cultural subtext, they can give birth to timeless classics. Perhaps a common primal tone allows a seamless assimilation of themes of maternity and religion, as is seen in a number of acclaimed titles through the years. Bangladeshi-American director Asif Akbar’s latest venture, Skeletons in the Closet, tried to recreate that magic by drawing upon legends of Mexican folk Catholicism within the Latinidad familial heritage. Instead, an atrocious and convoluted plotline, non-existent characterization, and poor visual effects make this movie a horrible mess, which only serves to malign the late phases of the career of its prolific cast. The gulf between intention and application is so vast in the moviemaking effort with this one that even the most hard-core horror fans who have grown tolerant of the worst of B-movies will find it a tepid,...

'SNL' — Mick Jagger Dusts Off His Spanish For Bad Bunny's Telenovela Sketch

Shooting a telenovela isn't easy, especially when you put out a casting call for a "latina" actress and get an actor named "Latina." This week's Saturday Night Live had some great moments when host Bad Bunny pulled double duty and also served as musical guest. One of the sketches, about the filming of a telenovela, showcased all the guest stars that stopped by as well. Bad Bunny played an actor bringing to life a character named Francisco, ready to fight his brother Tomas (Marcello Hernandez).

Gen V Fans Want a Soldier Boy Spinoff After Show-Stealing Cameo
Image
This story contains spoilers about Jensen Ackles' cameo in Gen V.

Soldier Boy's cameo in Gen V was not exactly what fans were expecting, but for many, it nevertheless stole the show.

Portrayed by Supernatural star Jensen Ackles, Soldier Boy previously made his debut in the franchise in the third season of The Boys. It was known that he would appear in some capacity in Gen V, and the cameo came in the sixth episode of Season 1, titled "Jumanji." As it turns out, Ackles was not technically playing Soldier Boy for the scene, but rather an imaginary version of the character who existed solely in Cate's (Maddie Phillips) mind. While he retained his unique personality, the imaginary Soldier Boy spoke somewhat out of character while delivering highly-quotable lines like, "Knock, knock. Who's there? Go f*** your face."

His death marked the end of the original era of classic rock, but his legacy continues to be celebrated and he remains an American original.

The "King of Rock and Roll" Elvis Presley forever changed the landscape of music by being one of the first-ever rock stars, and his tragic passing cemented his legacy as a pop culture icon. By incorporating music styles he fell in love with during his childhood, Elvis Presley was suddenly plucked from obscurity in the mid-1950s, and he helped to spearhead the burgeoning genre known as rock and roll. The Lighthouse by Paco Roca
Image
This is a 2004 graphic novel – should I say bande dessinée? Roca is Spanish, but my sense is the term is used generally across Europe – that the creator’s afterword notes was tweaked a bit for subsequent publications, finalized in 2009. This English translation – which Roca might have kibitzed on, as his afterword talks a lot about kibitzing on the French and Spanish and other editions in the first years – was done by Jeff Whitman for a 2017 American publication.

So it’s older that it might look, but maybe not entirely so. The original work is about two decades ago now, but I’m not sure Roca didn’t touch it, one last time, before this edition.

The Lighthouse is one of Paco Roca’s earliest works, I think, but that picture is muddy. He’s been translated out of sequence here in North America, with The House from 2005 only arriving in...

Luz Elena Mendoza Ramos of the alt-rock outfit Y La Bamba starts out talking about rain. “I feel like I’ve been going through my Saturn return for ten years,” they confide early in our conversation. “I’m in the eye of the storm.”

In some ways, it’s the perfect place to begin: Storms and rains are central to Lucha, Y La Bamba’s sumptuous seventh album. The disarmingly gentle opening track “Eight” invokes light summer showers. Shortly thereafter, “La Lluvi de Guadalajara” plays out like an interlude with ambient rainfall in the background.

Image
Madrid (Spain), March 20 (Ians) Struggling La Liga side Elche announced on Monday that they have fired Pablo Machin as first-team coach in the wake of their 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad that leaves them on the verge of relegation.

Google TV Preview: The Mom Test and the Nerd Test
To win the hearts, minds, and dollars of the public, Google TV will have to pass two tests: the Mom Test and the Nerd Test. The Mom Test measures (in perfectly scientific ways, provided your definition of science includes "my opinion") whether the average non-techy person will be able to both easily use and see the value in a product. The iPhone passes the Mom Test. Ubuntu does not. The Nerd Test, on the other hand, measures whether those who are already familiar with tech will respect and appreciate this new effort. Boxee passes the Nerd Test. Apple TV does not.

The Mom Test is important because without the support of non-experts, the platform will never gain mainstream popularity and market share. We in the tech press have to remember that we are, in general, weirdo obsessives who take tech far too seriously, and that we don't represent the norm.
