Aghori Mhori Mei marks Smashing Pumpkins’ 13th album to date. Speaking about the 10-track collection, frontman Billy Corgan said in a statement: “In the writing of this new album I became intrigued with the well-worn axiom, ‘you can’t go home again.’ Which I have found personally to be true in form but thought well, what if we tried anyway? Following the departure of longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder last October, frontman Billy Corgan put out an open call for his replacement. The band received more than 10,000 applicants, which Corgan then whittled down to a group of finalists who auditioned in-person in Los Angeles last month. He settled on Wong, a veteran guitarist who has performed with the likes of Taylor Swift, Usher, and Bret Michaels, as well as with rock bands Nylon Pink, Hellfire Heart, and currently, Vigil of War.

In a highly unusual move, the Smashing Pumpkins are soliciting a new guitarist with a general call-out.

The group announced Friday that they’re seeking to add a third guitarist to founding vocalist and guitarist Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain. The group has big shows scheduled starting in June.

“The Smashing Pumpkins are in search of an additional guitarist,” the band said in a statement posted to social media. “The application process is open to anyone who might be interested.” An email was also listed (see below) for interested guitarists to submit a resume and any related materials.

Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder has left the band after more than 15 years.

Schroeder made the announcement on Tuesday, October 24th via the Pumpkins’ official Instagram page, writing, “The amount of incredible memories created over the last 16 years with the band are almost too numerous to quantify. Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I’ve decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a slightly different path.”

Shelly Moore was a contestant on Big Brother 13, where she faced a major disadvantage as a new houseguest against veteran duos. The Smashing Pumpkins headlined Saturday night at their own The World Is a Vampire fest in Mexico City, a festival that also featured Peter Hook and the Light on the lineup. Both of those bands share the same bassist — Jack Bates, Hook’s son — so it was only natural that “Hooky” join Billy Corgan and company for a set-ending performance of Joy Division’s “No Love Lost.”
