Rainer Holbe was born on 10 February 1940 in Komotau, Sudetenland [now Chomutov, Czech Republic]. He was married to Rosemarie Kirsch. He died on 15 August 2025 in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany.
He achieved great fame in Luxembourg as the presenter of Radio Luxembourg's "happy waves," where he first captivated listeners at the microphone in 1974.
