They took the name "Procul Harum" because it was the breed of cat that belonged to a friend of their manager's.

Their biggest hit was "A Whiter Shade of Pale". The song has been recorded by over 900 different artists. The title came about when the writer heard someone at a party tell a woman, "You've turned a whiter shade of pale".
