MGM+ has shared the first-look image from the upcoming drama series “Robin Hood,” debuting later this year.

The shot features Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham alongside Connie Nielsen as Eleanor of Aquitaine – offering “a glimpse at the tense rivalries and high-stakes power struggles at the heart of this reimagined take on the legendary tale,” according to a release.

MGM+ describes the show as a “smart, sweeping, romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian.”

The court is gathering, and soon, one of literature’s greatest heroes will rob the rich and give to the poor in MGM+’s eagerly-awaited series, Robin Hood. It’s been a few months since any news about MGM+’s version of the iconic Robin Hood tale made the rounds, but finally, that’s about to change. With production currently underway on the small-screen adaptation, seven new members have been added to its cast, joining Jack Patten and Lauren McQueen, who will headline the series as Rob and Marian. The Robin Hood series is expected to premiere sometime in December, but with a precise date to be announced in due time.

One does not simply become a meme by accident, and actor Sean Bean is perfectly fine with his meme-able status. Known for his roles as Boromir in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,Edward “Ned” Stark in Game of Thrones, and Joseph Wilford in Snowpiercer,Bean has more than 100 acting credits to his name. Notably, he has achieved a bit of an iconic status for having died on-screen more than 20 separate times.

The 10 episode series was greenlit in September 2024 and recently began production in Serbia. Nielsen will appear alongside previously announced cast members like leads Jack Patten, Lauren McQueen, and Sean Bean. Additional cast members include Lydia Peckham, Henry Rowley, Steven Waddington, Marcus Fraser, and Angus Castle-Doughty.

Robin Hood, a bandit who is more myth and folk hero than real person, is a Nottingham-based myth and subject of many films and shows - good and bad alike. The "who" of who plays Robin Hood in these adaptions has always been a starter of great discussion - and sometimes, controversy - though Robin Hood is nothing without Marian, and MGM just cast theirs, per Deadline.

Per Deadline, Here and Masters of the Air star Lauren McQueen has been tapped to play the show's new take on the female lead, who is described as the daughter of a Norman lord and a courageous freedom fighter alongside the titular outlaw. Her romantic relationship with Rob will be the beating heart of the sweeping tale helmed by Seal Team alum John Glenn, but she's not the only new addition.
