License to Kill Is the Gritty James Bond Movie That Changed the Series Forever
Image
Secret agents going rogue is such a common trope that sometimes we wish that people like Ethan Hunt or Jason Bourne would just follow their orders for change. When Daniel Craig started playing James Bond in 2006, it seemed like Bond went rogue on nearly every single mission, including most of Quantum of Solace, at least half of Skyfall, and basically, the first two-thirds of No Time To Die. Pierce Brosnan’s Bond went rogue in Die Another Day, too, with a full beard and no shirt, declaring “I’m checking out” from a hospital. And of course, Connery’s Bond was on an unsanctioned revenge mission at the start of Diamonds Are Forever.

But the most compelling Bond-goes-rogue movie of them all to this day remains Licence to Kill, which in 1989, would become the unintended swan song from Timothy Dalton’s fierce take on the character.

On June 13 of that year,...

‘Presumed Innocent’ Movie Recap & Ending Explained: Did Rusty Kill Carolyn?
Image
Director Alan J. Pakula has a knack for adapting crime thriller novels to films, and I guess he does a pretty decent job of doing so. Klute and Pelican Brief were some of his films that I personally enjoyed watching, but his 1990 release, Presumed Innocent, takes the cake for me. It is a compelling courtroom drama that has the cynical quality of being a noir thriller. Now that Apple TV+ has announced a series based on the same novel written by Scott Turow, I thought it would be best to revisit the classic and go through the narrative in a detailed manner. So let’s find out what happened in the film so that you know what to expect from the Jake Gyllenhaal starrer series of the same name.

Spoiler Alert

What happened between Carolyn and Rusty?

Rusty was the second in command to Raymond Horgan, and the latter had...

Roma Downey’s TV Return With New Series ‘The Baxters’
Image
Roma Downey, the star of Touched By An Angel, is returning to television. Her return is in time for the 30th anniversary of Touched By An Angel which also starred the late Della Reese and the late John Dye. The new series has been titled The Baxters.

No One Has Forgotten Touched By An Angel

Even after several decades, no one has forgotten Touched By An Angel. This wildly popular show starred Roma Downey as the angel Monica. Della Reese, who passed away at the age of 86 in 2017, portrayed Tess. Tess the “supervising angel.” The Angel of Death was portrayed by John Dye. At the age of 47, he passed away from acute methamphetamine intoxication.

Fans of Touched By An Angel have been hoping for a reboot for a very long time. Sadly, this doesn’t appear to be possible. “That’s not a bad idea, unfortunately, we see all these...

Image
Mason faces mounting challenges in defending the Gallardos as the murder trial takes a dark turn. Mason's pursuit of the truth uncovers a shadowy figure behind the murder, complicating the case. Paul's past actions come back to haunt him as he delves into the seedy underworld for answers.

A Perry Mason season 2, episode 5 recap will need to cover the ongoing trial of the Gallardos, Paul's (Chris Chalk) interrogation of a suspect with the help of an unexpected ally, and Perry Mason's (Matthew Rhys) discovery of a major clue. Season 2 of Perry Mason has seen the classic cast from the original Perry Mason meet a new cadre of characters, as Mason attempts to solve a murder case involving Mexican American brothers, Rafael Gallardo (Fabrizio Guido) and Mateo (Peter Mendoza), against the late (and detestable) oil scion Brooks McCutcheon (Tommy Dewey).

Billy Joel’s Daughters Sing With Him at Madison Square Garden
Image
If you didn’t already know that Billy Joel has two daughters under the age of 10, now you do, as does everyone who attended his Madison Square Garden residency Tuesday night (December 19th). For his final show before Christmas, the singer welcomed his youngest kids Della and Remy — plus family friend Elvis Costello — on stage as special guests.

Dressed like very chic North Pole elves, eight-year-old Della and six-year-old Remy sang “Jingle Bells” for the Msg audience as their father performed piano accompaniment. It was a big evening for Christmas tunes (according to Setlist.fm), as the Piano Man also tore through covers of “Deck the Halls,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and “Silent Night.”

Costello emerged in the latter half of the set, performing his own “Pump It Up” with Joel as well as a duet version of Joel’s “Allentown.” Afterwards, Joel shared a sweet Instagram post thanking “some...

Juliet Rylance Knew Perry Mason Season 2 Would Set High Stakes For Della Street
Image
Since his first appearance in Erle Stanley Gardner's 1933 book "The Case of the Velvet Claws," Perry Mason has remained consistently popular due to several film, TV, and radio adaptations. But when HBO decided to reboot the private investigator turned criminal defense lawyer for the 21st century, they naturally put a new spin on the character and those around him. The hardboiled, pulpy debut season of "Perry Mason" ended with Matthew Rhys' P.I. embracing the role of a lawyer for which he's so well known, accompanied by his new lead investigator Paul Drake (Chris Chalk) and legal assistant turned co-counsel Della Street (Juliet Rylance).

But rather than Drake being the droll P.I. of previous iterations, the HBO show's version is a conflicted and embattled former LAPD street cop, struggling to support his family and navigate the treacherous landscape of a deeply racist 1930s Los Angeles. And whereas the...

Perry Mason's Anita St. Pierre Is Based On A Real-Life Hollywood Figure
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Perry Mason" through season 2, episode 5, "Chapter Thirteen."

In its first season, HBO's pulpy, hardboiled version of "Perry Mason" introduced us to a version of Erle Stanley Gardner's famous criminal lawyer who had yet to become the formidable figure we know from previous iterations of the character. In this show, Mason is a war vet and private investigator who struggles with horrific memories of his wartime mercy killings, fights to keep hold of his family's farm, and reluctantly takes on the role of attorney after John Lithgow's E.B. Jonathan takes his own life. It's all a bit grim, really.

But with season 2, "Perry Mason" has put supporting characters front and center. While the gritty, somber tone is still there, the violence has been toned down a bit, and there are some genuine moments of joy. Many of those moments come from Juliet Rylance...

Perry Mason Season 2 Trailer Brings Back Matthew Rhys' Hero Lawyer
Image
Matthew Rhys is back in the first trailer for HBO’s Perry Mason season 2. Erle Stanley Gardner’s Perry Mason novels formed the basis for the legendary television series starring Raymond Burr as the (almost) unbeatable defense lawyer. In 2020, Perry Mason got a very gritty period-set reboot, starring The Americans’ Rhys as Gardner’s complicated-but-heroic attorney. Then in July 2020, HBO announced that Perry Mason would be back to tackle another case in season 2.

It’s unfortunately taking quite awhile for Perry Mason season 2 to be delivered after that 2020 announcement. But now the second season is indeed officially on the way, with a premiere date set for March 6, 2023. And fans can finally catch their first glimpse of what’s in store for Perry Mason season 2, thanks to a new trailer just released by HBO. See the clip in the space below:

Perry Mason Season 2 Trailer: Matthew Rhys' Angsty, Brooding Lawyer Is Back For Another Angsty, Brooding Case
Image
When you watch enough movies and shows, you start to pick up on certain little recurring trends. Chief among them has to be the instinct to create new adaptations of classic, pulpy characters ... but with a dark, brooding, and adult-only sheen layered on top. After all, how else would you know to put the "prestige" in prestige television?

Well, as eye-rolling and clichéd as this tendency may be, I'm here to admit that I'm a complete and total hypocrite, because I happily ate that up and asked for more when HBO gave the same exact treatment to the classic character of Perry Mason. Initially a 1957 legal drama on CBS, with the eponymous private investigator played by Raymond Burr and based on the books and short stories written by author Erle Stanley Gardner, creators Rolin Jones and Ron Fitzgerald saw fit to make a new "Perry Mason" adaptation -- this time,...
