911 Boss Confirms What We Suspected About Season 9's New Captain After Finale
Image
Following Season 8's emotional ending, 911 showrunner Tim Minear shared the challenges behind finding the next captain of Firehouse 118 ahead of Season 9. The death of Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash (Peter Krause) in 911 sent shockwaves to the rest of the 118, his wife Athena (Angela Bassett), and fans of the series. Bobby's departure left a significant hole in the lives of the show's core characters, with them trying hard to navigate their new normal.

Minear previously explained why Bobby Nash had to leave 911, pointing out that it was a "creative decision" on his part while saying, "If the stakes are never real... the show could die." The character's death also meant that Firehouse 118 has yet to name a permanent captain. Still, 911 revealed Bobby's temporary replacement for a few episodes: Captain Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson).

However, the finale made it clear that Gerrard's post at Firehouse 118 will not last long. Hen...

‘9-1-1’ Says Goodbye to Bobby Nash With a Funeral and Tragic Flashbacks
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “9-1-1” Season 8, Episode 16.

“9-1-1” mourned the loss of Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash with a funeral and an old case with a tragic resolution.

Episode 16, titled “The Last Alarm,” followed as the firefighters of the 118 and their loved ones grieved losing their beloved captain. Bobby appeared in the heartbreaking hour through flashbacks and visions to his wife Athena (Angela Bassett), cementing the death of a character fans hoped would miraculously be revealed as a fake out in this week’s installment.

The somber tone did not slow down the case work, as Athena was recruited to solve a mystery surrounding one of Bobby’s past rescues. She juggled that with her own grief and finding the right resting place for her husband. Meanwhile, the other “9-1-1” characters struggled through their own grief, including Eddie (Ryan Guzman), who returned from El Paso for the funeral.

Why Buck and Tommy's breakup still hurts as we end 2024
Image
2024 is coming to an end and it was quite a year for television. There was so much to look forward to and so many storylines that we either loved or found ourselves questioning what was going on in the writer’s room when they wrote the episodes. In one case, we wanted to discuss the breakup of 911’s Evan “Buck” Buckley and Tommy Kinard.

Buck became enamored with firefighter pilot Tommy Kinard after meeting him while rescuing his captain, Bobby Nash, and his wife, Athena Grant, from a sinking cruise trip. Buck eventually realized why this was when the latter kissed him in his kitchen. The show went on to establish these two men as wanting to be together and building a relationship.

How was Tommy's growth shown in 911 when he returned?

Ever since season 7 aired with the reveal that Buck also liked men in addition to women,...

9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 7 Ignores the ABC Show's Biggest Problems
Image
The following contains spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 7, "Hotshots," which premiered Thursday, Nov. 14 on ABC.

9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 7, "Hotshots," is about as hot as the show can get when it comes to facing controversial topics. 9-1-1 isn't a stranger to touchy subjects such as domestic violence or child loss. But one point that the show has always tiptoed around and never quite addressed is police brutality. In "Hotshots," Athena Grant rights the wrongs of her past, while another character gets an undeserving rehabilitation.

The firefighters take a backseat in this episode for Athena to step forward and reflect on her career as a police sergeant. Athena's assigned a rookie named Officer Sparks, who definitely has a spark that's about to go off. The two butt heads as they tackle a case to find a black market robber called Flash Rob. Though the events that unfold between Athena...

9-1-1’s Peter Krause Talks Hotshots, Bobby’s Return To The 118 & More
Image
When 9-1-1 Season 8 began, Bobby Nash found himself away from his team at the 118 and in the entertainment business as a technical advisor on the television series Hotshots.

The show-within-a-show angle has played out comically throughout the first half of the season, and Bobby’s relationship with Hotshots star Brad Torrance has also been a highlight.

Bobby found an admirer in Brad, which plays out even more during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 7, when Bobby and the 118 are called to the Hollywood set when a stunt goes wrong.

(Disney/Carlos Lopez-Calleja)

With Vincent Gerrard now taking his place as technical advisor, things are running less smoothly on set, and the relationship between Gerrard and Brad is complicated at best.

When Bobby is tasked with returning to his short-lived place of employment to help Gerrard become more likable and thus foster a better working relationship with Brad, it feels like an impossible task.

9-1-1 Season 8 Is Finally Giving Buck & Tommy Their Due After Being Sidelined For A While
Image
Buck and Tommy's relationship was one of the biggest developments in 9-1-1 season 7, but their romance has been pushed to the side in favor of other storylines in season 8. Thankfully, that is about to change. Following the intense bee-nado disaster moment in the early 9-1-1 season 8 episodes, the show's focus was on other characters and plots. So, despite their growing relationship and importance to Buck's arc, Buck and Tommy have been sidelined, which is quite frustrating, but their time in the spotlight is coming.

9-1-1's shortened season 7 featured the return of Tommy, an Lafd Air Operations pilot, who used to work at Station 118. However, Buck didn't meet Tommy until the cruise ship disaster, when Tommy helped the team find Bobby and Athena from the air. Tommy later grew close with Eddie, which made Buck jealous. One thing led to another, and Buck and Tommy kissed and went on their first date.

9-1-1 Can Finally Be Good Again After It Fixed Season 8's Worst Parts In Just A Single Episode
Image
9-1-1 season 8 has finally put one of its most irritating storylines in the past, meaning the series can finally get back on track and return to its former glory. The ABC procedural drama TV show created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear debuted its eighth season (and second one on ABC) at the end of September 2024. 9-1-1 season 8 premiered with a bee-nado disaster, and for the first handful of episodes, it was evident that something wasn't right. More specifically, some characters weren't where they belonged.

ABC hasn't confirmed 9-1-1 season 8's episode count as of the writing of this article, but it's expected to be a full season, meaning it will likely contain around 18 episodes (based on past seasons).

9-1-1 season 7 ended with Bobby Nash surviving his heart attack (one episode after resigning from Station 118). Despite his brush with death, there were no indications that Bobby would resume...

Oliver Stark Teases "A Lot Of Clarity" For Buck & Tommy In Upcoming 9-1-1 Episode
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for 9-1-1 season 8, episode 4!9-1-1 star Oliver Stark has teased "a lot of clarity" surrounding the relationship between Buck (Stark) and Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) in an upcoming episode of season 8. 9-1-1 season 8 has shown Buck going through plenty of changes at Firehouse 118 after Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson) briefly became Captain of the station. This had resulted in plenty of friction as the show has focused on the team getting used to their new leader and the wild events unfolding therein. However, it's also caused Buck and Tommy's romance to be at the wayside for the first few episodes.

Speaking with Screen Rant, however, Stark teased 9-1-1 season 8, episode 5 will see Tommy return as he tries to help Buck through the difficulties he's faced with the 118. The actor says his boyfriend will be "weirded out" by some of what he's experienced so far.

‘9-1-1’ Star Aisha Hinds Says Hen’s ‘Bubbling Desperation’ Led to Episode 4 Twist Ending
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “9-1-1” Season 8, Episode 4.

“9-1-1” went through a season’s worth of story with its latest episode, including some big moments fueled by the “bubbling desperation” of beloved firefighter Henrietta “Hen” Wilson.

Episode 4, titled “No Place Like Home,” picked up the narrative threads of the ABC first responder drama’s Season 7 finale — which took a backseat to the high-stakes Season 8 premiere Bee-Nado/plane emergency — checking in on Hen’s (Aisha Hinds) custody fight for foster daughter Mara, as well as the 118 being led by captain Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson) after Bobby (Peter Krause) mistakenly quit. This week’s episode saw as the firehouse faced budget cuts and potential closure, as Hen fought to bring how councilwoman Olivia Ortiz’s (Veronica Falcón) personal vendetta against her was at the root of all the issues in both her life and that of her teammates.

Who Is Station 118's Captain Gerrard? Brian Thompson's 9-1-1 Character, Backstory & Future Explained
Image
Warning: Contains potential Spoilers for 9-1-1 season 89-1-1 season 7 revealed that Station 118's Bobby Nash was going to be replaced by Vincent Gerrard. The news that the beloved Nash was being replaced was made worse given Gerrard's history on the show. Gerrard, who is played by Brian Thompson, first appeared in 9-1-1 season 2 and has mainly appeared through flashbacks ever since. Following season 7, it seems as though Gerrard has returned with a vengeance in 9-1-1 season 8.

Given Gerrard's unusual and unlikable leadership style, it is no surprise that his return to the show has left several characters on edge. The 9-1-1 season 8 premiere revealed that tensions are particularly high between Gerrard and Buck, who is played by Oliver Stark. There is no doubt that Station 118 has several struggles ahead of it, including adapting to Gerrard's authoritative style.

‘9-1-1’ Creator Says Season 8 Bee-Nado Was Inspired by ‘Maybe the Worst’ 1970s Disaster Movie
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from the “9-1-1” Season 8 premiere.

“9-1-1” has cultivated a reputation for kicking off seasons with some impressive disasters. There was Season 2’s earthquake, Season 5’s LA blackout and Season 7’s sinking cruise ship. And who could ever forget the three-episode tsunami that opened Season 3? But Season 8’s Bee-nado may just fly to the top of this wild list.

“I was talking to Ryan Murphy, and he really loved the whole riff on ‘The Poseidon Adventure’ last season. He was like, ‘What are some other great ’70s disaster movies?’ And I’m like, ‘”The Swarm,”‘ which is maybe the worst one ever,” series showrunner co-creator and executive producer Tim Minear told TheWrap.

Minear does not recommend “anyone” sit down and watch Irwin Allen’s box office bomb about a swarm of killer bees that are on the verge of invading Texas. “I threw that out there,...

Oliver Stark Reveals Why Buck Struggles With Gerrard's Authority in '9-1-1' Season 8
Image
Gerrard's new leadership in 9-1-1 Season 8 will shake up the dynamics fans have grown to expect between the characters. Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson) is a no-nonsense captain, ensuring everyone follows the rules according to how they are laid out. Some images from the upcoming season find him lining up the firefighters for an inspection, which is rarely seen on the show. Adding this rigidity to his casual bigotry makes working under him a nightmare for several members of the 118. Everyone's reactions will vary, but for Buck, Gerrard is a no. Oliver Stark and the 9-1-1 cast participated in a panel with The Paley Center for Media, where they discussed all things 9-1-1. Stark previewed the reasons behind his character's actions in the upcoming season, which finds him at loggerheads with his superior.

The 118 is about to slide back into the dark days. When 9-1-1 Season 8 premieres, there will be changes in the firehouse with Captain Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson) at the helm. He returns to take over the captaincy duties that Bobby (Peter Krause) had left to pursue retirement after his recent brush with death and the past. Gerrard is awful and that's not a secret. Showrunner Tim Minear told Entertainment Weekly that even if the character is awful, "hes an awfully fun character to have in the mix. He does bigotry like no one else. New images (courtesy of Entertainment Weekly) tease the beginning of Gerrard's reign over the firehouse while rebellion brews from an unlikely source.

‘9-1-1’ Drops New Look at Bee-Nado in Season 8 Premiere | Video
Image
Los Angeles is about to go full “Wicker Man” thanks to the first teaser for “9-1-1” Season 8. The upcoming installment — as well as its bee-themed three-part opener — will premiere on ABC on Sept. 26. New episodes will be available to stream the following day on Hulu and Disney+

So far, the “9-1-1” team has tackled tsunamis, earthquakes, floods and a bouncy castle that flew away. But this time around, their natural disaster foe is 22 million killer bees. Set to Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight,” the 30-second teaser starts with Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) taking a 9-1-1 call. The camera then immediately snaps to show a truck exploding as it carries multiple crates.

“That truck was hauling 22 million killer bees,” a fellow dispatcher tells Maddie.

“Enough bees to kill …?” she asks.

“Forty-four thousand people.”

As this version of “In the Air Tonight” becomes more frantic, the camera shows people wildly swatting at their faces.

Every 9-1-1 "Begins" Episode, Ranked
Image
When a new show begins, viewers don't always have the opportunity to get to know who the characters used to be, only who they are in the show's present day. To tell the backstories of their characters, ABC's 9-1-1 has what fans refer to as the "Begins" episodes. There have been six so far, one for each of the main characters -- Sergeant Athena Grant (Angela Bassett), Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), and firefighters Henrietta "Hen" Wilson (Aisha Hinds), Howard "Chimney" Han (Kenneth Choi), Evan "Buck" Buckley (Oliver Stark), and Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman).

While 9-1-1 also uses flashbacks in other episodes, like in Season 6, Episode 3, "The Devil You Know," which uses flashbacks to share the story of Tanya Kingston, the girl whose abduction made Athena want to be a police officer, and in Season 2, Episode 13, "Fight or Flight," which uses flashbacks to show some of the marriage...

How 9-1-1 Season 7's Ending Sets Up Tedious Season 8 Plot For The 118
Image
This article contains spoilers for 9-1-1 season 7.

The happy endings in 9-1-1 season 7 are overshadowed by Vincent's return, setting up a disappointing season 8. Vincent's history of bullying and sexism makes his presence in season 8 a dreaded obstacle for the 118 crew and the audience. Bobby's resignation as captain paves the way for Vincent to take over, leaving Bobby's future with the 118 uncertain and potentially demoted.

In the final episode of 9-1-1 season 7, Los Angeles' first responders each have their own (mostly) happy endings, however, the last scene of the season creates a conflict that will make season 8 more annoying than it is entertaining. The seventh season of 9-1-1 was filled with daring rescues and dangerous situations, and episode 10 was no different. After a devastating house fire, Bobby is in critical condition and Athena is determined to find the arsonist, while Hen struggles for custody and Eddie faces a troubling reality with Christopher.

9-1-1 Season 7: How Bobby's Fate Sets Up A Very Different Season 8

Bobby's resignation as captain sets up major changes for the 118 in 9-1-1 season 8. Vincent Gerrard returns to take over, shocking Bobby. Vincent's return threatens the 118's morale as he has a history of demeaning Chimney and Hen. The team could implode under his leadership. Athena Author Elder Glade Publishing
9-1-1 is no stranger to leaving viewers with cliffhangers, but Thursday’s Season 7 finale had to reveal Bobby’s fate after the beloved character suffered a heart attack.

At the beginning of the shocking episode, Athena learned her husband’s heart stopped for 14 minutes, meaning the chances of him surviving were not good.

As Bobby’s condition worsened, Athena learned that the fire at the Nash residence was the result of an arson attack.

Maddie was shocked to hear Athena asking for his details on the emergency line and alerted Chimney. Everyone was starting to wonder where she had gone because it was out of character not to be by Bobby’s side.
