LL Cool J will soon reprise the role of Sam Hanna in “NCIS.”

The rapper debuted the role in 2009, when “NCIS” was on its sixth season, before the launch of “NCIS: Los Angeles” later that year. “Los Angeles” was the franchise’s first spinoff, and LL Cool J starred in all 14 seasons before the series concluded in 2023. He made another appearance on the flagship series in the months leading up to the “Los Angeles” series finale, and appeared in “NCIS: Hawai’i” in both 2023 and 2024.

The news was announced in a joint Instagram post between LL Cool J and the official “NCIS” account. “Back on set, baby! NCIS. Let’s get it,” he says in the video. He will appear in one episode set to air on April 21.

This new episode is the first one after another long hiatus on CBS.

After two weeks of repeat episodes, NCIS returns with Moonlit on Monday, March 24.

The season is winding down, usually leading to interesting guest stars and subplots that track to previous episodes.

An intriguing guest star is exactly what will happen on March 24, with Agent Dale Sawyer returning to NCIS.

We haven’t seen Sawyer since NCIS Season 20, but he is tied to the main storyline of the new episode.

The NCIS cast has brought back Special Agent Dale Sawyer.

Sawyer will be featured in an upcoming episode, and yes, he will work with Special Agent Nick Torres again.

Actor Zane Holtz plays Sawyer and has previously appeared during Seasons 10, 18, 19, and 20.

Holtz first appeared as Navy Petty Officer Third Class Kevin Wyeth during NCIS Season 10, Episode 19 (Squall).

That 2013 episode was dramatic but a one-off for that character.

Holtz appeared again in 2021 during NCIS Season 18, Episode 11. This was his first episode playing Sawyer (Gut Punch).

Holtz also appeared in NCIS Season 19, Episode 12 (Fight or Flight) and NCIS Season 20, Episode 12 (Big Rig).

His recent appearances are tied to his off-screen friendship with actor Wilmer Valderamma (Agent Torres).
