Many people feel that the film Steppenwolf was based on Hermann Hesse’s novel ‘Steppenwolf,’ first published in German in 1927. But that would be a mistake to believe that. Because, according to director Adilkhan Yerzhanov, the film is nothing like the novel, except that it examines the dichotomy between the spiritual and animalistic natures in man.

Coming soon from Arrow Video is the brutal post-apocalyptic revenge tale from Kazahkstan, Steppenwolf. Written and directed by Adilkhan Yerzhanov, his film is relentless and nihilistic, an epic journey across a desolate landscape stained with blood.

In the film:

Tamara (Anna Starchenko), a young lady consumed by trauma, searches for her missing son, Timka, in a small town dominated by riots and violence. In a desperate attempt to get him back, she teams up with an amoral former police investigator (Berik Aitzhanov) whose methods prove to be frequently cruel and sadistic. Quietly determined, Tamara decides to complete the mission with the nihilistic detective, no matter the cost, as the pair embarks on a bloody and bullet-riddled road trip in their combined search for salvation.

Contagion 4K Uhd from Warner Bros.

Contagion will infect 4K Ultra HD on February 27 via Warner Bros. The 2011 thriller has been newly restored in 4K from the original camera negative, overseen by director Steven Soderbergh, with High Dynamic Range.

The ensemble cast features Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Bryan Cranston, Jennifer Ehle, and Sanaa Lathan. Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum) wrote the script.

Three previously released featurettes are included: “The Reality of Contagion,” “The Contagion Detectives,” and “Contagion: How a Virus Changes the World.”

Body Double Vinyl Soundtrack from Waxwork Records

Welcome back for another week of horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases, readers! January 16th features plenty of intriguing offerings, from cult classics to sequels of cult classics to even a few recent films as well. If you happened to miss Blade Runner 2049, Happy Death Day, or The Snowman in theaters, all three are making their way home this Tuesday.
