HBO and HBO Max Bloodbath Continues: Love Life, The Nevers Canceled; Westworld to Be Pulled From Streaming
Lennon Parham, Ophelia Lovibond, Idara Victor, Jake Johnson, Jessica Lowe, and Oscar Montoya in Minx (2022)
HBO and HBO Max are becoming very unpredictable.

Ever since the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, there have been plenty of controversial decisions from the higher-ups at the company.

If you thought Minx was the only cancellation this week, then we have bad news.

HBO Max has split up with Love Life, canceling the romantic anthology after two seasons.

The writing had been on the wall with the lack of updates following the Season 2 finale back in November 2021.

The first season was headlined by Anna Kendrick, while the second had William Jackson Harper at the forefront.

The series has also been pulled from HBO Max, meaning there's a chance fans will never get to rewatch the series again.

Sam Boyd, the creator and co-showrunner, reflected on the cancellation on Twitter.

“Bummed that this is now a thing that can happen! Gonna try to figure out somewhere else for it to live,...

HBO’s ‘The Nevers’ Begins Production on Season 1B, New Episodes to Debut in 2022 (Exclusive)
Olivia Williams, Eleanor Tomlinson, Laura Donnelly, Rochelle Neil, Zackary Momoh, and Ann Skelly in The Nevers (2021)
Production will begin on Part 2 of the first season of HBO’s “The Nevers” on Tuesday in the U.K., TheWrap has learned exclusively.

Season 1A of the Joss Whedon-created sci-fi series, which stars Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly, was shot last year, with a pandemic-forced shutdown hitting after Episode 6 was completed. New showrunner Philippa Goslett, who took over for Whedon in January following his exit from the show last fall, mapped out the back half of the first season of “The Nevers” with her writers’ room while Part 1 was premiering on HBO this spring.

Donnelly, Skelly and the rest of “The Nevers” cast are all returning for Part 2, which consists of six episodes that will pick up where the final episode of Part 1 left off when it aired on May 16. (Need a refresher? Head over here to find TheWrap’s interview with Donnelly and Skelly about the finale.

HBO’s ‘The Nevers’ Premiere Draws 1.4M+ Viewers Across Linear & Digital, Best-Ever Original Series Debut On HBO Max
Image
The Nevers has gotten off to a great start for HBO. Sunday night’s premiere of the Victorian science fiction drama series drew just over 1.4 million viewers across linear telecasts and digital, including the best start for a new HBO Original on HBO Max, according to the premium cabler. The debut episode surpassed viewership for premieres of recent HBO dramas including Lovecraft Country and The Undoing, and viewership is expected to grow via additional telecasts and viewing across platforms, HBO said.

Starring Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly, The Nevers is set in August, 1896, the last years of Victoria’s reign, when London is ocked to its foundations by a supernatural event which gives certain people – mostly women – abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing. But no matter their particular “turns,” all who belong to this new underclass are in grave danger. It falls to mysterious, quick-fisted widow Amalia True...

TV Ratings: ‘The Nevers’ Delivers Best-Ever Debut for Original Series on HBO Max
Image
“The Nevers,” Joss Whedon’s steampunk brainchild and HBO’s latest original series, drew over 1.4 million viewers across linear telecasts and digital during its premiere on Sunday night. The show scored the best debut for a new original series on HBO Max and surpassed viewership for other popular shows on the streamer, including Misha Green’s horror drama “Lovecraft Country” and David E. Kelley’s psychological thriller “The Undoing.” This preliminary number will likely increase significantly as viewing across HBO’s platforms and additional telecasts are factored in.

Per the logline, the fantastical, sci-fi period drama set in Victorian London takes place after the supernatural events of August 1896, in which certain people — mostly women — are granted extraordinarily abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing. But, no matter their particular “turns” (aka powers), all who belong to this new underclass of “The Touched” are in grave danger. It all falls to mysterious,...

HBO’s ‘The Nevers’ Brings Joss Whedon’s Greatest Hits to Victorian London: TV Review
Image
It takes a minute for “The Nevers” to feel like something other than a steampunk “Doctor Who” interlude in Victorian London where, despite stubbornly buttoned-up appearances, things aren’t quite as they seem. The new HBO drama, which follows a group of women who have been “touched” by some mysterious power that grants them extraordinary abilities, unabashedly embraces its cross-section of genres. It’s a historical drama awash in lush costuming and production design. It’s a sci-fi epic unraveling the mysteries of the universe. It’s a screwball comedy and Harlequin romance starring quick-witted heroines, surly detectives and devastatingly handsome heirs. Even when it errs towards the silly, it’s fun and twisty enough to be an engaging page-turner of a show that should grow its own fanbase without much trouble.

Somewhat overshadowing the actual text of “The Nevers,” however, is the fraught fact that the series parted ways...

‘The Nevers’ Can’t Muster Enough Magic to Erase Joss Whedon
Image
The Nevers should be a triumphant TV homecoming for Joss Whedon. It’s the first series in more than a decade solely created by the man responsible for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly. (He co-created Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. back in 2013 with brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen, and wasn’t really involved past the pilot episode.) It is his first dance with premium cable, after spending the earlier phase of his career working for broadcast networks with either low budgets or minimal faith in his ideas.

Joss Whedon is responsible for some of the most beloved genre television series ever made, from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” to “Firefly” and “Dollhouse.” Now Whedon is back with HBO’s “The Nevers,” albeit with a twist.
