Washington Post Veteran Philip Rucker Joins CNN
Image
Philip Rucker, who rose through the ranks of The Washington Post to become the outlet’s national editor, is jumping to CNN to take on a senior role directing its coverage of politics in the nation’s capital.

Rucker has been named senior vice president of editorial strategy and news, and has been tasked with, among other things, guiding coverage of President Donald Trump, who was inaugurated into office Monday. Rucker will start his new role on February 10.

He is the latest in a series of departures of prominent journalists from The Washington Post, which has been navigating a downturn in subscriptions and pushback to stances it has recently taken under CEO Will Lewis and owner Jeff Bezos. The Post announced in late October that it would not endorse any candidate for president, a move subscribers saw as a kowtow to newly-inaugurated president Donald Trump by the Post’s owner.

Discovery+ Docuseries ‘Unprecedented’ Features Riveting Footage Of January 6th Capitol Attack, But Donald Trump And Family Don’t Stray From Their Script
Image
When Donald Trump is asked about the January 6th attack on the Capitol in Alex Holder’s Discovery+ docuseries Unprecedented, he both downplays the insurrection and affirms the mob’s madness.

“Well, it was a sad day, but it was a day with great anger in our country,” Trump says, a couple months after the attack.

In their interviews, Trump’s children decline to comment on that day.

So too, does Vice President Mike Pence, albeit he has one of the most candid moments of the docuseries. About to sit for an interview six days after the siege, Pence is shown an email with the Democrats’ resolution that he invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. “Yeah, excellent,” Pence says to an aide. “Tell Zach to print me off a hard copy for the trip home.” But Pence doesn’t elaborate, and instead goes into robotic talking points.

Donald Trump Lashes Out After ABC News’ Jon Karl Asks Him, ‘Why Did You Lie To The American People?’
Image
Donald Trump lashed out at ABC News’ chief White House correspondent Jon Karl at a press conference on Thursday, after Karl asked him about the revelations in Bob Woodward’s upcoming book.

“Why did you lie to the American people, and why should we trust what you have to say now?” Karl asked.

According to the book and an audio interview, Trump told Woodward on Feb, 7 that the virus was deadly and dangerous, and could be spread through the air. But during the next month the president minimized its threat in public statements. In another interview with Woodward on March 19, Trump said that he downplayed the threat of the virus so as to not cause panic.

“That’s a terrible question,” Trump responded to Karl. “And the phraseology. I didn’t lie. What I said is we have to be calm. We can’t be panicked.”

Trump told Karl that...

“I’m The President, And You’re Fake News”: Donald Trump Lashes Out As He Calls For Testing Injections Of Uv Rays, Disinfectants To Kill Coronavirus
Donald Trump
President Donald Trump’s briefing on Thursday was devoted in part to a presentation from a Homeland Security official who presented data suggesting the coronavirus does not survive as long in high humidity and sunlight.

The presentation came from William Bryan, an official with the Department of Homeland Security, who said that solar light had a “powerful” impact on killing the virus. But he also said that they were studying how disinfectants eradicate the virus within minutes.

Later, Trump suggested that such findings could be applied to a study of killing the virus within the body.

“Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous ultra violet or just very powerful light,” he said, looking toward Bryan and Dr.

Whca Weekend: Showbiz Types Are Scarce, But It’s Still Surreal
Washington — Michelle Wolf’s monologue at the White House Correspondents Association dinner dominated the headlines coming out of the evening — even if it was a mere sliver of the four-hour event and only a moment in what is traditionally D.C.’s most social weekend.

The surreal aspect is usually the mix of newsmakers on opposite ends of the political spectrum or at odds in other ways — Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniels’ attorney, was at the annual Garden Brunch on Saturday along with Kellyanne Conway.

Hollywood had a presence, although it was much more muted than in previous years. At Hamilton Live, Kevin Bacon and The Bacon Brothers at one point played “Footloose,” as they were the headliners to a series of journalist-bands, including Lester Holt and the Rough Cuts.

Some of the other events:

Bytes and Bylines (Thursday): One of the first events of the weekend, held at the...

Trump Finds Time for Jesse Watters’ Fox News Show Aboard Air Force One
Donald Trump
Donald Trump was caught watching Fox News’ Jesse Watters on Sunday night, days after the president said he doesn’t have much time for television. Washington Post White House Bureau Chief Phillip Rucker tweeted over the weekend that he saw Trump watching Watters on a “jumbo TV aboard Air Force One” on his way back to Washington D.C. after spending a weekend in New Jersey. We saw President Trump & family watching @jessebwatters's Fox show on jumbo TV aboard Air Force One tonight en route home from Bedminster. — Philip Rucker (@PhilipRucker) July 17, 2017 Also Read: Joe Scarborough on Quitting Trump's Gop: 'Dying.
