    Made headlines outside her acting career when she was attacked in Los Angeles in March 1939 by a man wielding a piece of wood. Fortunately, she recovered, but still suffered a severe head injury, and the culprit, DeWitt Clinton Cook, went on to carryout further attacks on woman and actually killed a student only a few weeks before the assault on Delia. Cook died in prison in January 1941.
