Alex Gibney
New York -- Oscar winner Alex Gibney is taking off with "Gravity," a documentary about the extreme sport of Base jumping.

The director of "Taxi to the Dark Side" and "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" will executive produce and serve as a mentor on the docu, a look at death-defying athletes who jump off buildings and cliffs. Marah Strauch directs.

The movie's credits will feature a who's who of docu-world figures: "Riding Giants" producer Jane Kachmer will produce, along with Strauch and Eric Bruggemann. Josh Braun and Dan Braun of docu sales-agent powerhouse Submarine Entertainment will exec produce.

Base jumping, begun in the 1970s by engineer-filmmaker Carl Boenish, involves an athlete who jumps off natural and manmade objects without a cushion or harness and opens a parachute late in the jump.
