Biography

    • Roger Jerome was born in the UK on July 3, 1936. He studied theatre at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He won prizes for fencing and dialects. He worked in regional theatre including Bristol, Nottingham, and Birmingham. He toured the country for 24 weeks in Beyond the Fringe. He was featured in Saint's Day at the St Martin's theatre in London. Taking up the position as Senior Lecturer at the South Bank Polytechnic, he was responsible for dozens of drama projects. He's proudest of the collaborations with the costume department on experimental Shakespearean productions e.g. a rock version of Macbeth, Dreams, Twelfth Night, Measure for Measure, and a three person Timon of Athens, in which Timon's body made of cake, with red sauce, was consumed by the audience. He also conducted many projects in London schools e.g. The Victorians, Queen Elizabeth at Tilbury, and The Circus. Roger became fairly well known for his work in education using Process Drama or Drama in Education, in which students use their creative skills to produce drama with the teacher guiding them, sometimes in role. Coming to the USA in 1989, Roger did a residency at the University of Rio Grande. This was followed by a number of residencies elsewhere e.g. WVU, Ohio University, University of Delaware, and Shawnee State University. He also picked up his professional acting with roles including Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Captain Hook in Peter Pan, and Leonardo DaVinci in 2008. He also devised a number of solo shows which he toured around to dozens of schools in Ohio and beyond e.g. A Christmas Carol, An Audience with Boz, Merlin and Arthur, and Alice and Company. Commercials and film work saw him involved excitingly with Hollywood, The Christmas Spirit, and The Minuteman.
