Joe B. Cobbs
Dr. Joe B. Cobbs is a Professor and Department Chair in the Haile College of Business at Northern Kentucky University (NKU), where he regularly leads courses in Sports Economics, and Rivalry & Ritual in International Sports, among other teaching assignments. He also serves as Chair of the University Athletic Council at NKU, and he is the co-founder of the Know Rivalry Project, which was featured in the Emmy-winning documentary film Rivals: Ohio State vs. Michigan (2022).
Dr. Cobbs earned his Ph.D. from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He previously served as a corporate sponsorship consultant at General Sports & Entertainment in Detroit, Michigan and as the Director of Marketing for Miami (OH) University Intercollegiate Athletics. His research on rivalry and corporate sponsorship has been presented at conferences across five continents, and published in leading peer-reviewed journals in marketing and sport management, including the Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Sport Management, and Sport Management Review. The application of his research has been the focus of over 100 media appearances, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, National Public Radio (NPR), and the Entertainment & Sports Network (ESPN).
Joe resides in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife and three children. He is avid traveler and has completed over 15 marathons, including Boston (2x).
