Evil Dead: The Musical became an instant hit upon its 2003 debut in Toronto, leading to an off-Broadway run in 2006 and regional productions that continue to shoot blood on audiences around the world.

The original cast recording is now available on vinyl for the first time. Featuring songs like “What the F–k Was That?,” “Look Who’s Evil Now,” and the Rocky Horror homage “Do the Necronomicon,” it costs $24.99.

The musical adaptation of The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II features book and lyrics by George Reinblatt, with music by Reinblatt, Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond, and Melissa Morris, of course based on characters created by Sam Raimi.

Brazil’s Fantaspoa film festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and the festival is breaking numerous records, presenting an impressive total of 114 feature films, 22 of these as World Premieres, marking the largest number of feature films in Fantaspoa’s long history.

The festival tells us this week, “With a diverse selection, the feature films screening at Fantaspoa Xx have been divided into seven distinct competitive categories: International, Ibero-American, National, Documentary, Animation, All-Nighter, and Low Budget, Great Films. The genre-themed line up has been revealed by Variety this afternoon, and it includes films about everything from Krampus to pregnancy, deadly novels, and a blood transfusion app.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Nxt head writer Ryan Ward is moving to the Smackdown! brand, where he will take on lead creative duties.

Working with Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Ward has made Nxt’s weekly TV show one of the most critically acclaimed in all of wrestling. The one-hour broadcast is frequent cited as logical, easy-to-follow, and entertaining, in stark contrast with WWE’s main roster programming. Ward and Levesque were recognized for their work in the 2015 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards, where the pair won in the “Best Booker” category.

Ward joined WWE in 2009, having never worked in the wrestling industry before but having followed it for years as a huge fan. His creative talent helped him rise to the position of Smackdown! head writer, and in September 2014, he moved to a position helping run the rapidly-growing Nxt brand.

Over a year ago I wrote a review of an incredible little fantasy laced film out of Canada which premiered at Slamdance and went on to run the fest circuit without finding distribution. For the lucky few who've seen it, they know how good this tourettes laced semi-love story is, and now, it's finally going to see a release.. on Canadian TV. Yes, it will be playing on Canada's Super Channel on March 6th at 8pm.. full details here.

I also interviewed director and star Ryan Ward at length at the Denver Film Festival but unfortunately the phone I used for it broke.. but let me tell you folks, this film is a gem and has a great soundtrack which includes music from the likes of Joanna Newsom, so if you can, see it!

Sable & Batalion’s The Legend of Beaver Dam has been playing some of the premiere film festivals since September. It played Tiff, Fantastic Fest, Stiges and just recently played at Sundance 2011. I received a screener prior to Fantastic Fest – thank god because I missed it on the big screen because of my schedule – and I fell in love with it. The short film takes the familiar story of an urban legend being told at a campfire setting. However, the end result of this fantastic short film is anything short of predictable. It’s difficult, if not nearly impossible, to walk into Adán Aliaga’s full length directorial debut without some consideration of the religious overtones that will undoubtedly appear in a film titled Estigmas (direct translation: stigmata) but Aliagan’s film isn’t concerned with the global apocalypse or the salvation of humanity but rather the exploration of one man’s life.

Bruno is a burly man with a soft demeanour. He’s kind, quiet and in trouble. An alcoholic, on the verge of being evicted and working for a man who takes advantage of his good will, he’s quickly being pushed into edges of life. It's films like this which make me seriously question people's commitment to the art form I so love and make me wish I had enough cash flow to start my own dvd distribution label. (Anyone wanna back me?) Sots premiered at Slamdance earlier this year, and while some of it's brethren went on to some form of release, this gem still does not have a sales agent or distribution anywhere and has been lightly playing the fest circuit. What starts out as a drama about a young man with tourette's syndrome bleeds into the divine, and is overall, a solid, thoroughly enjoyable indie which deserves far more attention.

The fantasy portion of the film is better left unexplored, so I'll give a brief background before concentrating on an overview of this brilliant and profound cinematic movement.

London -- Lynn Shelton's "Humpday" will kickstart this year's Raindance Film Festival, which includes an American Indie sidebar, organizers said Monday.

Shelton's movie, which stars Joshua Leonard and Mark Duplass, opens the London event, which aims to set itself apart from other festivals here by focusing on discoveries, innovation and indie filmmaking.

The festival will close with Steven Soderbergh's "The Girlfriend Experience" to round out a strong U.S. presence.

Also in this year's lineup is "My Suicide," featuring one of David Carradine's last turns before his death.

Steve Balderson returns to the festival with "Stuck!" starring Karen Black, Mink Stole and Susan Traylor.
