Exclusive: The UK has a long history of producing hit property shows such as Kevin McCloud’s Grand Designs and Phil and Kirstie’s Location, Location, Location. The BBC is now moving into the virtual reality-led future with its latest format in the genre.
I understand that the British public broadcaster has ordered Watch This Space from Endemol Shine’s Remarkable Television. For the first time on British television, cutting edge Vr technology and visual effects will be used in a property format, transforming ordinary homes with unique designs.
Hosted by Robot Wars’ Angela Scanlon, the eight-part series, which will air on BBC Two, will see two couples who disagree about the best designs for their home work with architects Laura Clark and Robert Jamison. The pair will produce two conflicting briefs and then the homeowners will be able to “step into” the redesigned properties using the Vr tech. Through...

Grand Designs host Kevin McCloud has revealed that he once made an episode of the show specifically to get people "as drunk as possible".
The presenter said that he was inspired by the fan drinking game created around the show. '#granddesignsbingo' sees viewers down shots each time something eventful happens during an episode.
'Drink' causes include each time contestants run out of money or quit their job to devote more time to their project.
Speaking at a media event this week, McCloud said: "We even actually wrote an entire programme around the drinking, and it's covert so one of the programmes is deliberately designed to get people as drunk as possible.
"There are all kinds of rules, like every time I used the word 'bespoke' it's a double shot, the wife gets pregnant halfway through, that's a treble."
Other 'drink' scenarios include when planning permission is ignored by owners...

Magic show Troy will return for a second series on E4 next year.
The illusionist will once again be filmed on the streets using hidden cameras in front of members of the public.
The first series averaged around 600,000 viewers on E4 earlier this year.
Elsewhere, Richard Ayoade is to front a new untitled series in which he goes on holiday in Europe with a different celebrity companion each week.
The pair will head off to aspirational destinations including ice palaces, otter hotels and underwater bedrooms.
Kevin McCloud will front a new series titled Escape to the Wild, where he will meet people who have moved from the suburbs and cities to the most remote places on earth.
Dementiaville will be a three-part series that explores a new approach to caring for people with dementia, which aims to reduce confusion of those suffering with the condition, while celebrating who they once were with their families.

Penelope Keith and Angela Lansbury are among the stars in the Queen's New Year Honours List for 2014.
Pete Tong, Karren Brady and Ruth Jones are also named on the annual list.
For the first time since the Order of the British Empire was founded in 1917, women outnumber men in the overall list.
Keith - perhaps best known for her roles in the sitcoms The Good Life and To the Manor Born - is named a dame. She said: "You know I sort of feel elated, exhausted and thrilled. It's the big one. I had already got an OBE and then a Cbe, so I don't know what is better than the icing on the cake, but this is."
British-born Murder, She Wrote star Lansbury is also named a dame for her successful acting career, charitable work and philanthropy.

There is a terrible plague affecting modern society. I’m not talking about war, or famine or even global warming. This affliction began in the murky depths of daytime telly and has crawled, oozing, into the evening and weekend schedules like some monstrous new species. I am referring, of course, to the not-so-new breed of TV property programs.
As the economy continues to stumble and the housing market wheezes its way to recovery, it seems an inverse trend is taking place. Alongside the increasing inability for most decent and hardworking Britons to actually be able to buy or indeed build a place to live, there appears to be a growing propensity for TV toffs to tell us all about the joys of doing exactly that! The inner grump in me is compelled to combat this...

A director's CV needs to prove a lot to a prospective employer. An eye for imaginative camera shots. A bulging contacts book with lots of good actors and crewmembers who can help make the project a resounding success. And then there's the all-important talent for judging budgetary requirements.
It's a talent that's especially important in a show like Doctor Who, especially in the days before the budget got bigger. Back in the day, the budget never seemed to amount to much, given the various DVD commentary anecdotes, during which directors spend aeons discussing every scrap of budget on their allocated story – anecdotes that are only really of any value to accountants and insomniacs.
But any director worth his or her salt needs to have a good grasp of finance, especially if they're called upon to write a story for Doctor Who. Peter Grimwade – he of the rather creepy, intense stare – was one such example,...

America needs reality television like Top Gear. The fact that we don’t air this program on a mainstream network channel baffles me. Do Americans like cars? Yes. Do we like comedy? Yes. Do we watch far worse things than this on average? Regrettably, yes. Top Gear has the laughs, has stunningly good production values, and can keep audiences of all types entertained. It’s twelfth series sees an increase in runtime from last season by two episodes as well as an entire episode in the extra features. The set rounds out to about eight and a half hours of entertainment, a definite improvement over the paltry offerings in Top Gear 11.
Top Gear 12 has some of the more amusing episodes in recent memory. It starts off with a bang as the trio purchases a Lorry (comparable to a Mack truck) apiece and deck them out for a series of challenges.

Dance Shows
Are you dancing? Cat Deeley and Davina are asking
In 2010, Cat Deeley and Davina McCall will go head-to-head with their own dance shows: BBC1's So You Think You Can Dance and Sky1's Got To Dance. But which looks better?
Premise Sytycd is an X Factor-style contest to find the UK's best dancer, whereas Got To Dance is an X Factor … oh, hang on, they're identical.
Winner It's a draw.
Promos The Got To Dance promos see Davina McCall recreating famous dance routines dressed in a skimpy leotard that shows off her feminine magnificence like never before. The Sytycd promo is a close-up of Nigel Lythgoe's bulging amphibian face.
Winner Davina.
Host's Sense Of Inhibition Cat Deeley might have polarised Us audiences with her wayward fashion sense, but it seems like Davina actively lobbied to wear that leotard.
