There's nothing better than a good romcom. It's a genre that took root pretty much as soon as movies could talk, and, for all its accused repetitiveness, has been going strong ever since, always finding fresh new ways to assert its worth.
In the past century of film history, we've seen great romantic comedies ranging from the sweet to the wild to the darkly hilarious to the slyly subversive; the only thing that hasn't changed is the enduring appeal of watching charismatic stars flirt, trade barbs, field misunderstandings, and ultimately fall — or not — into each other's arms.
To create this ranking of the best romantic comedies ever, we've looked over the genre's entire chronology, and carefully plucked classics from all eras. Every single one of these films is essential viewing, to be clear; there's no going wrong here if you're looking for recs.

In this edition of This Day That Year, Subhash K Jha revisits Nana Patekar’s Vadh as it clocks 23 years.
Though Vadh (assassination) aspires to be a slick thriller about a serial killer on the prowl, the plot is as pacy and elegant as a Chinese Puzzle with several missing pieces.
The cast, though uniformly unattractive and laughably stilted, features the once-revered Nana Patekar in his first major role since Wajood two years ago. Nana plays a shrink presiding over a shallow and shrunken menagerie of characters. The plot seems stage-managed by an invisible hand that thinks it knows what it’s doing.
Except for the denouement, which succeeds in surprising and shocking the audience, nothing about Vadh is the least convincing or exciting. Patekar, who openly admits to having taken over the directorial reigns from the original director, has earlier directed Prahaar, a film about an army man’s disillusionment with the system.

With “Be Happy” (2025), Remo D’Souza continues on an overconfident spree of churning out dance videos in the guise of cinematic tripe. The title itself is abundantly indicative of the sheer excruciating stupidity filling every seam of this film. Once again, we get the tussle of reaching for dreams immanent to a passion for the arts. This is done through an entirely ineffective father-daughter story, where Abhishek Bachchan and Inayat Verma are tasked with taking us on a wrenching journey. Of course, a terminal illness track gets interposed, to cover up the massive flaws, the absolute slog the film regularly settles into.
The film opens at a picturesque estate in Ooty. It’s been eight years since Shiv (Bachchan) lost his wife in an accident. He lives with his daughter, Dhara (Verma), and his father-in-law (Nassar). Dhara’s passion for dancing is immediate, buoyant and all-encompassing. Shiv, however, isn’t quite...

With the Oscars quickly approaching, it's no wonder movie fans are buzzing about this year's nominees. As always, entertainment coverage focuses on the biggest controversies and the picks for the big five: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay. As a result, films nodded in other categories don't get nearly as much attention as they deserve. While finding time to watch every single movie nominated for 2025 is difficult, the best short films of the year can easily be added to your watchlist — and one of them is now streaming on Netflix.
Anuja, nominated for Best Live-Action Short Film, captivated audiences despite its 23-minute runtime. The coming-of-age short follows the emotional story of a nine-year-old genius named Anuja (Sadja Pathan) and her older sister Palak (Ananya Shanbhag). Directed by Adam J Graves, Anuja is the story of an exceptionally talented girl who had what it took to defy the odds and climb out of a dark and deep abyss where hope ceased to exist. The film was made with the support of the Salaam Baalak Trust, a nonprofit organization that works for the betterment of underprivileged children in the New Delhi region. The protagonist of the film, Sajda Pathan, was also one of the kids living in the Ngo’s care. Anuja is a commentary on the capitalist setup and how difficult it becomes for an underprivileged person to break that mold, free themselves of the shackles of poverty, and achieve what they truly deserve. Be it capitalism, communism, or socialism, every economic system has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is easy for a privileged man to say that everybody has the opportunity to climb the...

“When will Kashmir get its azaadi? ” shrieks one of the chic militants in this shindig of cheap thrills and bumpersticker jingoism.
The audience roared with approval every time the brave soldiers of stunt co-ordinator Tinu Verma’s first directorial venture made nasty digs at the enemy across the border. A boisterous and jokey soldier played by Sharat Saxena whose only wish is to have his favourite song played on the radio, says, “Pakistan doesn’t understand that even if we stand and pee on their border their entire country would be flooded.”
Now this is serious Paki- bashing. Far more critical and damning than anything we’ve seen on the theme of militancy and /or border disputes like Sarfarosh, Gadar, Indian and of course J.P.Dutta’s Border from which Verma seeks several thematic and visual reference points.
No harm in going to the classics for inspiration, or for that matter,...

Lucknow, July 19 (Ians) Medical experts have warned people against taking stomach acidity lightly and advised them not to take over-the-counter (Otc) drugs.
Dr N.S. Verma, a senior doctor of King George’s Medical University (Kgmu), said, “About 80 per cent of people suffer from acidity at some point in their lives. This is related to what they eat, their physical activity and their sleep pattern. Too much sugar intake and having spicy and fried food are the most common mistakes we make every day that cause gastro problems.”
Dr R.K. Sharma, of Medanta Hospital, said, “Hyperacidity-related disorders are very common and faced by majority of the population in India.”
The doctors said people should maintain a diet plan, sleep adequately and ensure they use gadgets in a limited manner.

New Delhi, May 1 (Ians) Rohan Verma, CEO & Executive Director, MapmyIndia, on Monday slammed the Internet and Mobile Association of India (Iamai) for parroting and promoting views that are “anti-Indian and pro-foreign Big Tech”.

The Iamai now has members who are the top Indian heads of Big Tech firms like Google, Microsoft, Meta and others.
The association has also prepared a draft submission on whether India needs a separate law to tame Big Tech’s anti-competitive practices.

Kolkata, Nov 3 (Ians) An attacking half-century (51 off 25) from Sumeet Verma followed by a three-wicket haul (3/25) from Rishi Dhawan helped Himachal Pradesh reach the finals of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (Smat) 2022 with a 13-run victory over Punjab in the first semifinal at the Eden Gardens, here on Thursday.
Put in to bat first, Himachal posted a strong total of 176/7 from their 20 overs on the back of fifty from Sumeet and Akash Vasisth’s impressive 43. In reply, Punjab kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 163/7 in 20 overs, falling short of the target by 13 runs.
Chasing a challenging target, top-scorer Shubman Gill (45 off 32) looked solid at the top but he didn’t get much support from others. However, once Gill got out in the 10th over Punjab were left in a spot of bother at 61/3.
