‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Jonathan Pryce, Adam Driver, José Luis Ferrer, Ismael Fritschi, Juan López-Tagle, William Miller, Will Keen, Jason Watkins, Paloma Bloyd, Olga Kurylenko, Joana Ribeiro | Written by Terry Gilliam, Tony Grisoni | Directed by Terry Gilliam

Terry Gilliam’s’ long-delayed rendition of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has taken over twenty-eight years to come to fruition, but alas, after multiple delays, a stroke and, a lawsuit against a release, Gilliam’s film has finally been released for all to see, albeit in an incredibly diluted and sadly quiet fashion. For a film that has almost killed three cast members involved in a life span of thirty years any film of such high esteem and high calibre ought to be worth viewing alone for the pain and pressure that went into realising such a project, but unfortunately, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is all seemingly inconsequential.

Frightfest Glasgow 2015: ‘Rec 4: Apocalypse’ Review
Stars: Manuela Velasco, Paco Manzanedo, Héctor Colomé, Ismael Fritschi, Críspulo Cabezas, Mariano Venancio, María Alfonsa Rosso | Written by Jaume Balagueró, Manu Diez | Directed by Jaume Balagueró

When an established film series decides to shed its formula and try something wildly different in its structure – if not exactly its content – I can’t help but feel both relieved and wary. If it ain’t broke, right? On the other hand, later instalments risk becoming stale reruns of earlier movies with no sense of development or even surprise, as every gag, jump and plot twist possible has already been thrown at the audience.

Such is the dilemma I found myself in with [Rec]4: Apocalypse, which ditches the found-footage style of its predecessors in favour of going for full-blown narrative cinema. I must admit, I saw no reason for concern in the intense opening sequence, as the presence of properly-framed action and quick-paced editing (editing!

2 Clips from [Rec] 4: Apocalypse
The zombie virus of the influential [Rec] franchise worked its way through the residents of an apartment building and the celebratory guests at a massive wedding reception, and in [Rec] 4: Apocalypse, it looks to ravage the crew of a ship at sea. We now have two new clips from the recently released movie, which show how handy an outboard motor can be in fighting off infected humans (and monkeys?).

“Several hours have passed since the terrible events that ravaged the old building in Barcelona. After the chaos of the first few moments, the army decided to intervene and an elite group of soldiers infiltrated the building in order to plant detonators and put an end to this nightmare once and for all. The mission is a success; quick and precise. Angela Vidal, the young television reporter who entered the building with the fireman just hours before, manages to make it out alive.

[Rec] 4: Apocalypse Review
Whether or not you’re a fan of [Rec] 2 (which I Loved) or [Rec] 3: Genesis (which I moderately liked), horror fans understand that Jaume Balagueró’s [Rec] 4: Apocalypse brings about the end of a franchise that redefined our perception of found footage horror. [Rec] was one of The movies that pushed my cinematic tastes towards atrocious deaths and jolting scares, and knowing that TV personality Ángela Vidal will finally be going off the air for good brings a tear to my eye – despite the final film’s decision to abandon found footage completely.

[Rec] 3: Genesis teases us with wedding footage to start, until a character scolds the cameraman for continuing to film while simultaneously fighting zombies (finally), where [Rec] 4: Apocalypse goes full theatrical despite some surveillance camera footage. Balagueró’s solo effort rocks back and forth between being a furious zombie death cruise and a dull lazy river excursion, churning like choppy waters,...

[Rec] 4: Apocalypse Red Band Trailer Released
The zombie virus of the influential [Rec] franchise worked its way through the residents of an apartment building and the celebratory guests at a massive wedding reception, and in the soon-to-be-released [Rec] 4: Apocalypse, it looks to ravage the crew of a ship at sea. But, as the film’s new red band trailer shows, the living aren’t going down without a fight, using firearms and even a propellor against the relentless zombies.

[Rec] 4: Apocalypse Photos Feature Close Encounters with the Living Dead
After the blood-soaked wedding reception of [Rec] 3: Genesis, the influential Spanish zombie franchise is going back to its roots in its fourth entry with familiar faces behind and in front of the camera. This time around the zombie virus breaks out on an isolated ship at sea, and a new batch of stills from the film feature up-close looks at the ravenous living dead as they hunt the vessel’s crew.

The Apocalypse Commences in a New Trailer for Rec 4: Apocalypse
It looks like director Jaume Balagueró has tossed aside the found footage gimmick for his latest, the fourth entry in the “Rec” franchise, “Apocalypse.” Check out the trailer for the film below, which actually looks like a cross between “28 Days Later” and those “Resident Evil” movies … except set on a boat. I still have no idea how this ties in with the third movie, 2012′s “Rec: Genesis,” or does it at all? Who knows. Trailer looks pretty good. You can’t really go wrong with a pretty girl trapped in an oil tanker being chased by bloodthirsty zombie/demon types, amirite? The young reporter Ángela is rescued from the building and taken to an oil tanker to be examined. However, it is unbeknown to the soldiers that she carries the seed of the mysterious demonic virus. Starring Manuela Velasco, Héctor Colomé, Mariano Venancio, María Alfonsa Rosso, Ismael Fritschi, and Paco Manzanedo.
