Ready for a summer horror flick? Scary movies have become a staple during vacation season, and two of the most recent releases—Birthrite and Shaman—are great options. Not enough time and money? Don’t worry, we’ll help you choose which one to go and see in your local movie theater!
It is important to remember that these movies only have limited theatrical runs, so it’s better to watch them while they are screening. Since these are also small-budget movies, there might not be enough marketing and promotional materials. Nonetheless, both are worth checking out depending on your taste!

"I don't know what it wants with you, but it can't be good..." They want the baby. Scary. Brainstorm Media has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror film titled Birthrite, made by filmmaker Ross Partridge, opening in August. Not to be confused with the other film titled Birthright also coming out later this year. The film follows a couple's quiet new beginning — only to uncover a buried legacy and a karmic curse that threatens to claim their unborn child. When a pregnant woman is bequeathed a home from an estranged aunt, she and her girlfriend leave the city behind to begin a new chapter. But when a karmic debt threatens the life of their unborn child, they soon discover their place in the cursed history of the town. Starring Alice Kremelberg, Juani Feliz, Michael Chernus, Patch Darragh, Owen Campbell, Jennifer Lafleur, and Henny Russell. Some creepy folk horror involving a sacrifice?...

Set among a population of people who are doing time for all kinds of nefarious deeds (not to mention sadistic guards who take pleasure in mistreating the inmates), finding evil in Litchfield Prison is not hard. After finding themselves in maximum security thanks to the riot in season five, the characters in C-Block meet one of the most threatening bad guys of Orange Is the New Black's new season: Carol (Henny Russell). Quiet and menacing, she's a real threat to the newly placed inmates.
Russell has been acting for over 20 years, mostly as a character actor. She's had appearances on Gossip Girl, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Chicago Med.

Warning: this post contains spoilers for Orange Is the New Black season six.
Before they are in orange, blue, khaki, or even pink uniforms, the inmates of Litchfield are just regular people committing regular crimes. While the writers and producers of Orange Is the New Black show us some pretty dark offenses - like Lorna's attempt to murder Christopher's girlfriend and the young boy who falls to his death while trying to leave Suzanne's apartment - season six introduces two new characters and one of the most gruesome crimes we've seen yet. Meet Barb and Carol Denning: they are the OGs of Litchfield, as we learn they've been in max for quite some time, and they're also the reason for the intensely divided C-Block and D-Block.

Warning: spoilers for season six of Orange Is the New Black ahead!
Boiling Orange Is the New Black season six down to one core theme is impossible; as always, the talented ensemble cast makes it impossible to choose between all of their engrossing, messy, and brilliant stories. But one of the juiciest threads running through the whole of the season is the fraught, vengeful relationship between Frieda (Dale Soules), Barb (Mackenzie Phillips), and Carol (Henny Russell).
After being moved to Litchfield's maximum-security facility in the premiere following the season five riot, strong, survivalist Frieda appears to give up - she slits her wrists in her cell and just narrowly avoids death. We soon discover that the reason Frieda attempts to take her own life isn't because of where she is now, but who is in there with her.
The new prison is ruled over by two feuding sisters, Barb and Carol.

“This place is way too serious,” Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore) complains early in the new season of Orange Is the New Black. “This place” is the maximum security facility at Litchfield, where Cindy and a number of other inmates have been transferred in the wake of the minimum security camp riot that took up the entirety of Season Five.
Or, as stoner guard Luschek (Matt Peters) so eloquently puts it a while after he, too, winds up in max, “I fuckin’ miss camp! It sucks stubble-covered itchy balls here!”

When Orange is the New Black Season 6 premieres on Friday, July 27, the easy life of minimum security will be over.
Opening about a week after the riot that was the focus of Orange is the New Black Season 5, only about half of the central characters make it to the maximum security arm of Litchfield Penitentiary.
The rest are in the wind, perhaps to be shuffled in somewhere down the line or never to return.
The sixth season will continue following the lives of those involved with Litchfield, but this is the first time the I've wondered how the stories get decided.
Not everyone makes it to Max, and there are a few characters whose absence is noticed.

It was hard to know how “Orange is the New Black” would — or could — come back after its fifth season, which was as ambitious as it was ultimately disastrous. The show became as scattered and chaotic as the inmate protest-turned-riot it was trying to depict, sending every character spinning seemingly for the sake of it. By season’s end, two guards had died and the inmates were rounded up and shipped off to different prisons.
It’s understandable why, after four similarly structured seasons, the show was tempted to slow the story down to follow just a few extraordinary days in the characters’ lives. But in the end, the result was too thrilled with its own daring to make much sense. So the question was how Season 6 could recover without ditching its ongoing storylines and starting over with a whole new cast.

Those working on Cbgb have wasted no time in compiling their supporting players. We’ve seen the main actors (Alan Rickman, Rupert Grint, Malin Akerman, Joel David Moore, and Stana Katic) jump into the fray over these past two and a half weeks, but today has brought seven (seven!) new performers into the historical music scene fray. First, THR informs us that Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins will take on the legendary Iggy Pop; Deadline says Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) is appearing as manager Terry Ork; and Variety reports that Mickey Sumner (The Borgias, Imogene) will play singer Patti Smith.
Additionally, Steven Schub (24, Chicago) will play DeeDee Ramone; Evan Alex Cole (She’s Out of My League) is appearing as Richard Hell; Kerry Bische (Red State) has been cast in the part of Mary Harron (some research indicates that this is, in fact, the American Psycho director); and...
