The latest in our series of writers recommending their go-to comfort watches is an ode to Paul Feig’s 2015 comedy starring a never-better Melissa McCarthy
It has a plot and a cast that seem cooked up during a hallucinatory fever dream. It shouldn’t work, but it does – and so splendidly, too. In Paul Feig’s comedy Spy, Melissa McCarthy plays Susan Cooper, a timid CIA desk agent who gets sent out into the field by her fearsome boss (Alison Janney) after the death of her slick Bond-like colleague, Bradley Fine. The cast is full of delightful surprises. Rose Bryne is a stiletto-clad Oxford-educated villainess with quips so brutal that she makes Regina George look like Barney. Peter Serafinowicz does a game turn as an – admittedly very pre-#MeToo – cringey Italian pervert figure named Aldo (“like the shoe store found in American malls”).

Jason Statham scored one of his highest Rotten Tomatoes scores thanks to his action-comedy thriller, Spy, directed by Paul Feig and costarring Melissa McCarthy. Even 10 years after its release, the film is a constant chart-topper on various streaming platforms, but despite the success of the movie, and the world’s endless supply of love for Statham’s brand of brash, bald, brutality – even in a comedic setting – it seems that Feig doesn’t see a sequel happening.
While many movies have been riding the wave of nostalgic legacy sequels, it seems that, despite currently promoting his new movie, Another Simple Favor, Feig doesn’t consider himself much of a “sequel chaser.” Speaking with MovieWeb’s George Edelman, the director said of a possible reunion with Statham and McCarthy:
“I don't know. I mean, of all my movies, that's probably the one that would make most sense to do another one of.

Jason Statham is one of the most recognizable action stars of this century, but his highest-rated film is actually a comedy. Jason Statham's filmography includes popular franchises such as Fast & Furious, The Expendables, and The Mechanic, in addition to a plethora of standalone action movies. While the actor does prioritize action films over other genres, Statham has also appeared in several comedy movies. Statham's best comedy movies include Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Mean Machine, and a 2015 film with 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

While Jason Statham is best known for playing action heroes, beginning with his breakthrough starring role in the 2002 action film The Transporter, some of his most memorable roles have been in a supporting capacity, as seen with his compelling supporting performance in the 2004 thriller film Cellular and his memorable cameo appearance in Collateral.
Stathams career moved in an exciting and unexpected new direction with the 2015 spy action comedy film Spy, in which he surprised audiences and critics with his hilarious supporting comedic performance as Rick Ford, a grizzled CIA agent who forms an uneasy partnership with inexperienced field agent Susan Cooper, played by Melissa McCarthy, in their quest to wrest control of a portable nuclear device from a murderous arms dealer.
Through Stathams entirely self-referential and unpretentious performance, Rick Ford becomes an inspired comedic creation in Spy, which proves that his acting repertoire is much broader than his increasingly repetitive starring action vehicles suggested.

When most people think of the spy genre, it's hard to ignore the impact of the James Bond franchise, but there have been many other thrilling spy movies in the last decade. While James Bond still sets the tone in many ways, the spy genre is surprisingly diverse. The last few years have produced spy comedies, action thrillers and historical dramas based on true stories.
Some other big spy franchises have been at their peak in the last 10 years, including Mission: Impossible and Kingsman, but the genre also has plenty of room for original stories. Some of the most intense recent spy movies have been based on true stories of espionage from the Cold War or World War II. Before James Bond makes a return, there are many other spy movies to keep fans of the genre satisfied.

Selena Gomez was moved to tears during an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show” shared online Saturday. Actress and comedian Miranda Hart told fellow guest Gomez that the latter’s vulnerability in her Apple TV+ documentary “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me” inspired Hart to be more open about her own mental health struggles in a new book.
“I have to say, it’s extraordinary that I’m on the show with Selena,” Hart explained. “Because — it makes me quite emotional — because when I saw your documentary on Apple about your illness struggles, I was thinking, ‘Do I share — is this something I should do’ — because it feels quite vulnerable sharing, it’s not something I’ve done before.”
“And I watched your documentary and I just thought, ‘Absolutely, yes,’ and that’s what kept me writing,” Hart added.
A visibly emotional Gomez grasped Hart’s hand as the audience cheered.

The many incredible action movies of Jason Statham have turned him into one of cinemas most popular modern action heroes, and hes had plenty of great movies that still need sequels. While Statham has taken part in his fair share of franchises, his filmography boasts countless movies that have plenty of life in them and heroic characters that audiences would love to see on the big screen once again. Having proven his skills for hand-to-hand combat, intense car chases, and death-defying stunt work, there are so many characters Statham should bring back for one more movie.
Statham has been at the forefront of some of the biggest action franchises of all time and has demonstrated he can hold his own against heavy hitters like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Not all actors enjoy watching themselves on-screen — Adam Driver famously walked out of an interview with NPR's Terry Gross when she played a clip of one of his scenes from "Marriage Story," to present the most extreme example. Apparently, Mayim Bialik also hates watching her own performances, and that includes her nine-season run on the hit CBS sitcom "The Big Bang Theory."
Bialik talked to The Metro UK in June 2020 — roughly one year after "The Big Bang Theory" concluded after 12 seasons — about her career and made a surprising admission: she's watched very little of the show that revived her career. "I've never seen most of the episodes," Bialik revealed. "I don't watch myself on television. I've never sat and watched an episode of our show, ever."

The worst fantasy movies of the past decade often demonstrate overconfidence in popular properties, ruined by poor execution. Execution of exposition is crucial in fantasy movies; a lack of well-written scripts can make them cringe-worthy. Tom Ellis reveals he would consider reprising his role as Lucifer only if a movie sequel with a good script is offered. Ellis emphasizes not reviving the show just for financial reasons, citing his experience with the British comedy Miranda. Lucifer's series finale provides a reasonably definitive ending, making a movie return more plausible than a new season of television.
Actor Tom Ellis reveals his two conditions for reprising the role of Lucifer. Ellis' run as the charming titular character ended in 2021, concluding the saga of the devilish protagonist as he abandoned Hell to live in Los Angeles and work as a consultant for the LAPD. Lucifer Morningstar would go on to have a memorable relationship with his partner Chloe (Lauren German) in the supernatural drama, which was based on the DC Comics character and ran for 93 episodes.

The Canterville Ghost gets a banner animated adaptation with an all-star British cast. Stephen Fry stars as Sir Simon de Canterville, a 300-year-old apparition cursed to haunt his estate after an unthinkable tragedy. He's successfully scared away annoying interlopers but meets his match in the Otis family. The annoying Americans aren't scared by his antics. He becomes an ignorable nuisance and hapless target of hellion twin boys. But Sir Simon does find a friend and eventual liberator in the teenaged Victoria (Emily Carey), a courageous heroine who wears "pantaloons", fences, and can't help but fall for the handsome Duke of Cheshire (Freddie Highmore).
