Writer, director, and producer Dwight Wilson II is native of Oklahoma City, OK, by way of Atlanta, GA, where he attended Georgia State University as a film major. Dwight is known for as the Behind-The-Scenes documentary director for Nate Parker's record breaking Sundance hit, 'The Birth of a Nation'.
Living in Los Angeles, CA, he later relocated to Auckland, New Zealand as an actor and director shooting his first short-film The Return (2007). Dwight would make history as the first African-American to write, produce and direct a film in New Zealand. His later success came as the Behind-The-Scenes documentary director for Nate Parker's record breaking Sundance hit, The Birth of a Nation (2016). Dwight captured the in-depth journey of how a director guided and built trust with the cast and crew to carry the incredible story of Nat Turner. His directorial work includes Thirst (2014), a short-film starring Kel Mitchell; and has achieved producer credits in several films such as award-winning short-film LU (2013), starring Nate Parker, Omari Hardwick and Emayatzy Corinealdi, Moonchild (2020) which won USC First-Look award for best sci-fi thriller in 2020; also winning Best Music Video Thirst at the Urbanworld Film Festival 2019 and associate producer and still photographer for American Skin (2021). Today he focuses on projects that embody faith-based and impactful stories. His mentorship involvement has been in The Nate Parker Foundation and Film Institute inspiring HBCU students who are upcoming actors and filmmakers. His most current work as a director is a short- documentary series entitled Elevate by Helium 10 (2021), which tells the life changing journey of successful Amazon sellers.
