There’s light at the end of the tunnel for Snowpiercer, after all.

The post-apocalyptic drama on wheels was canceled after three seasons by TNT in January 2023, despite previously scoring a renewal for a fourth — and final — season.

At the time of the cancellation, the entirety of the fourth season was in the can, meaning that an ending had been filmed, but producers would need to find a new outlet to air the episodes.

Truthfully, we lost hope the episodes would see the light of day because it was the latest in a long line of financially driven decisions by Warner Bros. Discovery, which had already scrapped the already-completed Batgirl movie, among other things.

As the weeks turned into months, the chance of Snowpiercer securing a home to air its final-ever episodes looked bleak … until AMC stepped up to the plate this week.

AMC has picked up rights to all four seasons of the post-apocalyptic drama — including the completed but never aired fourth season. The series first aired on TNT, but the Warner Bros. Discovery network canceled the show in January 2023 as it and sister channels TBS and TruTV left the scripted business.

The first two seasons of Snowpiercer will begin streaming on AMC+ on June 1, with season three following a week later. The final season will debut July 21 on both AMC and AMC+ — a change from the network’s earlier plans to air the final season in early 2025.

“Snowpiercer is an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride with a loyal fanbase — similar to the passionate fandoms we serve across our biggest franchise series — and a welcome addition to AMC and AMC+,” said Ben Davis, executive vp original programming at AMC Networks and AMC Studios.

TNT‘s series adaptation of Bong Joon Ho’s “Snowpiercer” (which was based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob) kicked off back in 2020, with three seasons aired between 2020 and 2022. The show’s fourth season has been filmed, but in a strange twist of fate we’ve learned this week that it won’t actually be airing on TNT at all.

Deadline reports, “Snowpiercer, the only remaining original scripted series on TNT, is done on the Warner Bros. Discovery network. The post-apocalyptic drama’s completed fourth and final season will not run on the basic cable network as previously announced. The move is believed to be part of the tax write-offs for content at Wbd.”

It seems that TNT is officially out of the original scripted series business. The cable channel has cancelled plans to air the fourth and final season of Snowpiercer. The episodes have been produced and season four will be shopped elsewhere. There's also a possibility that the show's universe will keep chugging along.

Production on TNT’s “Snowpiercer” has been stopped due to safety concerns involving extremely high temperatures on set (via Deadline). The series was filming in British Columbia, where temperatures frequently reached the mid-90s. Multiple cast and crew members experienced cases of heat exhaustion, and 14 people were reportedly taken to the local hospital for treatment. Soon after, producers made the decision to suspend filming until temperatures became more manageable.

“Out of an abundance of caution, production of ‘Snowpiercer’ wrapped early yesterday and was suspended for today due to extreme heat on location,” said a spokesperson for Tomorrow Studios, which produces the show. “The health and well-being of show cast and crew remains top priority.”

Production got underway today in Vancouver, Canada on Season 4 of TNT’s Snowpiercer, with new cast members Clark Gregg (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D ) and Tony winner Michael Aronov (The Drop). Additionally, Emmy nominee Paul Zbyszewski (Lost), has been named showrunner and executive producer for Season 4. He takes over for Graeme Manson who was named showrunner in 2018, replacing Josh Friedman.

The news comes just ahead of tonight’s Season 3 finale, which airs at 9 Pm on TNT.

In the most recent ninth episode, Layton (Daveed Diggs), Ben (Iddo Goldberg), Josie (Katie McGuinness), Alex (Rowan Blanchard) and Javi (Roberto Urbina) band together to rescue Melanie (Jennifer Connelly). Relieved to find her alive, she is brought back on board the train safely, resulting in a blowout party on the train. “Snowpiercer” is changing showrunners going into the show’s fourth season.

Paul Zbyszewski — whose past credits include “Lost,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” and “Helstrom” — will take the reins of the TNT series from Graeme Manson. Manson famously took over showrunning duties on the drama show after original series creator Josh Friedman and TNT parted ways over “creative differences” before Season 1.

In addition, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” alum Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov are both joining the series in Season 4. The news comes the same day as the Season 3 finale. Production is now underway on Season 4.

As production begins on Snowpiercer Season 4 — and ahead of tonight’s Season 3 finale — TNT has announced that Agent of Shield favorite Clark Gregg is boarding the dystopian drama.

Snowpiercer Season 3 Episode 7

The first season of Snowpiercer was at its best when it focused not on the climate dystopia or the science fiction elements, but the detective story. Andre Layton, at least in the first season, is a classic film noir detective. Pulled from the grimy underbelly of the train known as the Tail and thrust into the heights of power to investigate a murder for a powerful, mysterious woman who may or may not be hiding a big secret. Daveed Diggs is a great actor for this sort of setting, and it was strong enough to carry the show through the beginning and into the struggle for power and survival against Wilford’s dictatorship.

Now, Layton is struggling for survival against his own body, and falls into an appropriately film noir situation within his own mind. He wakes up, slowly, and finds himself...

If TNT's Snowpiercer has any couple that could be described as star-crossed or ill-fated, it would have to be Josie Wellstead and Andre Layton as portrayed by Katie McGuinness and Daveed Diggs, respectively.

The Tailie leaders are an effective and united team throughout Snowpiercer Season 1's revolution, taking significant risks for each other and the cause with Josie seemingly making the ultimate sacrifice when Melanie Cavill fatally freezes her while interrogating her.

But even the cold can't keep them apart. Josie survives and is reunited with Andre, only to discover that he is expecting a baby with Zarah. Their love is true, but obstacles abound.

When TNT's Snowpiercer first premiered in 2020, it was the capstone on a monster journey of development stretching back to 2017.

Snowpiercer Season 3 Episode 3

It’s a credit to the creative team on Snowpiercer that they always figure out a way to make train versus train incidents exciting. When Big Alice first showed up, it was a thrill and a surprise. Now, with Snowpiercer and Big Alice involved in a game of cat and mouse, it’s still surprising. There might only be so many places where trains could come into direct confrontation while on the same piece of track, but Snowpiercer usually finds a way, and the results tend to be very entertaining.

It helps that the battle of forces is so disproportionate, and so well established in the first two episodes of the season. Wilford (Sean Bean) has all the men he needs to repel any straight-ahead boarding action; there’s not an even battle like when the Tailies took over the train from Melanie.

It’s gonna be a hot one on the pirate train when Snowpiercer Season 3 pulls away from the proverbial station this Monday night.

When last we tuned into TNT’s dystopian drama, Andre (played by Daveed Diggs) had orchestrated it so that he and a handful of other friendlies explosively broke away from Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) and Big Alice, in their own 10-car pirate train. Before doing so, Andre made sure to hold onto Miss Audrey (Lena Hall), Wilford’s No. 1 gal, so as to ensure the safety of his baby momma Zarah (Sheila Vand), who was still on Big Alice.

The wheels will start turning on Snowpiercer Season 3 on Monday, January 24.

That much we've known for a while now.

TNT on Monday dropped a more extensive look at the new season than before in the form of an extended trailer.

There's hope for a future beyond the train, but there's no telling whether everyone will make it as the power struggle between Layton (Daveed Diggs) and Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) heats up.
