  • Best friend of Boy George (George O'Dowd) on and off for many years, until a final falling out over George's musical Taboo (2003) (c 1980 - c 2002). According to Marilyn, they're close friends again (2006).
  • Discovered in 1982 by Haysi Fantayzee's Kate Garner and Paul Caplan, who also produced Marilyn's first few singles.
  • Marilyn has battled depression for most of his life, and was agoraphobic for a length of time as a teenager and again as an adult.
  • Parents' names were Peter and Margaret Robinson. Father was a writer and a yacht salesman in Jamaica when Peter was born there on November 3 1962. Marilyn and his mother returned to Britain after his parents split up when he was 18 months old. Mother had worked for a Nottingham England television company (c 1980s).
  • The 2002 stage musical by Boy George, Taboo (2003), features Marilyn and other pop and club stars of the 1980s. The musical was a London West End smash before transferring to Broadway in NY (produced by Rosie O'Donnell).
  • Sang on Band Aid's 1984 single "Do They Know It's Christmas?".
  • He briefly retired from the industry until 2001, when he made a series of successful club appearances and a greatest hits album was released. He is still in demand for interviews and TV appearances. (2001)
