After studying German and English at the University of Cologne, Lutz van der Horst worked as a speaker and author for radio and, starting in 2000, also for television. He worked as a staff writer for various production companies like Brainpool, for TV Total and Die Wochenshow. He then worked as a freelance writer for other comedy shows like Switch Reloaded, Sechserpack and Harald Schmidt. From December 2001, van der Horst also appeared in front of the camera for the first time for TV Total. Since late 2009, he has also been an outside reporter and staff writer for the "heute-show".
