Netflix debuted its first look Friday for “Death by Lightning,” a new drama about the true story of the 20th president of the United States, James Garfield, and his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau — the man who would come to kill him.

The limited series, which is based on the Candice Millard novel “Destiny of the Republic,” will premiere on the streamer later this year and stars Matthew Macfadyen and Michael Shannon.

Other cast members include Betty Gilpin, Nick Offerman, , Laura Marcus, Bradley Whitford, Shea Whigham, Paula Malcomson, Tuppence Middleton, Archie Fisher, Barry Shabaka Henley, Željko Ivanek, Kyle Soller, Ben Miles, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shaun Parkes and Alistair Petrie.

“Death by Lightning” is created and written by Mike Makowsky, who executive produces alongside David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Bernie Caulfield and director Matt Ross.

The project marks the third series to come from Benioff and Weiss following their overall deal with Netflix.

Alan Cumming and Natalie Cassidy have been cast in the second season of BBC and Tubi drama series Boarders.

The Traitors host Cumming and EastEnders actress Cassidy will join a cast including leads Josh Tedeku, Jodie Campbell, Sekou Diaby, Myles Kamwendo and Aruna Jalloh in the coming-of-age series about five talented black inner-city teens who gain scholarships to the prestigious St. Gilbert’s boarding school. Cumming will play Alan, a man with high standards of the students at St. Gilbert’s, and Cassidy will appear as Sharon Hail, a teacher at a rival school. Season two will begin with a new acting headmistress, Carol Watlington-Geese, who wants the scholarship students gone, just as they have begun to thrive.

Tubi and the BBC have confirmed the Season 2 cast for the teen dramedy Boarders, which is on track for a 2025 release (Stateside on Tubi).

Created by Daniel Lawrence Taylor, who co-stars as Gus, Boarders follows five talented, Black, inner-city teens transported to “an alien world” — a British boarding school — after gaining scholarships to the prestigious St. Gilbert’s. They then set out to make the most out of the opportunity, despite their places only being offered as a poorly-disguised PR exercise to improve the reputation of the school.

The rest of the cast of Death by Lightning has been announced. The upcoming series is headed to Netflix and dramatizes the presidency of President James Garfield and his relationship with the man who killed him, Charles J. Guiteau.

Archie Fisher, Barry Shabaka Henley, Željko Ivanek, Kyle Soller, Ben Miles, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shaun Parkes, and Alistair Petrie are joining the previously cast Bradley Whitford, Shea Whigham, Michael Shanno, and Matthew Macfadyen.

An acclaimed actor who starred in Netflix's Daredevil series headlines the new additions to the cast for an upcoming Netflix series from the creators of HBO's Game of Thrones.
