There she grew up in sheltered circumstances with her sister Yvonne and attended school. Her interest in martial arts was awakened at an early age. At the age of twelve she took a judo course and later learned kickboxing. Regina Halmich started boxing when she was 15 years old in 1991. Her great role model was Mike Tyson. After graduating from school, she learned to be a legal assistant, although she had already enjoyed great success as an amateur boxer and had the goal of becoming a professional boxer in mind. Regina Halmich became German amateur champion three times (1992, 1993 and 1994) and even European champion in 1994.

In 1994 she then switched to the professional camp. She had her first fight on April 9, 1994 in her hometown of Karlsruhe. She defeated her Dutch opponent Finie Klee after just five rounds with a 3-0 points win. In November of the same year, Regina Halmich won the European Super Flyweight Championship with a 3-0 point victory in the tenth round. She successfully won this title in 1995 against the Portuguese Sonia Pereira by technical knockout. defend. In the same year she became WIBF world champion in the junior flyweight division. In the years from 1998 to 2000, Regina Halmich was able to successfully defend her title as WIBF world champion several times.

Her sporting career has been honored with many awards, including the Golden Plaque of the City of Karlsruhe (1996), being named the world's best boxer by the WIBF (1997) and being named Sportswoman of the Year several times (1996, 1997, 1999, 2003). Regina Halmich particularly came into the public eye on March 22, 2001, when she accepted the challenge of a fight against the moderator Stefan Raab. Raab felt safe against the 1.61m tall and 50kg heavy world champion, but was proven wrong. This show appearance brought Halmich a wide audience and great media interest.

This was followed by several advertising contracts, television appearances and a photo series in the men's magazine Playboy. However, her sporting career was always in the foreground: from 2003, Halmich held the title of WIBF world champion in the junior flyweight and flyweight divisions. She has also been junior bantamweight world champion since her victory against Daisy Lang in May 2004. With a controversial draw in September 2004 against the American Elena Reid, Halmich was able to defend her title of world flyweight champion. However, she was able to confidently win the rematch on January 15, 2005.

Regina Halmich defeated the American Hollie Dunaway unanimously on points in Magdeburg on April 16, 2005. She won her 50th professional fight on September 10, 2005 in Karlsruhe with a 2-1 point decision against the Spaniard Maria Jesus Rosa over a distance of ten rounds. On January 13, 2007, she achieved a unanimous points victory against the Hungarian Réka Krempf in Halle an der Saale. On July 28, 2007, she won against the American Wendy Rodriguez in Düsseldorf. In doing so, she created the conditions for her big farewell fight on November 30, 2007 in Karlsruhe against Hagar Shmoulefeld Finer, which she won on points. She then retired from professional sports.
