Mallory Culbert grew up in Dallas, Texas, and attended the University of Texas in Austin where she graduated from the Plan II Honors Program, writing her first feature screenplay "Alice in Winter" for her senior thesis.
After studying with Bill Esper and The Groundlings, in New York and Los Angeles, respectively, Culbert returned to Austin and began developing the narrative feature "Andie MacDowell," later renamed "The Big Spoon."
