10 Best Cyberpunk Martial Arts Movies
Image
Cyberpunk and martial arts are two facets of movie genres that might not have a lot in common on the surface. However, they make for an incredible combination. Juxtaposing the technological and virtual realities of cyberpunk with the physical discipline and technique of martial arts is always engaging. Many of the best cyberpunk sci-fi movies are from the 1980s and 1990s, as this was when the internet was taking hold, and both filmmakers and audiences were beginning to fear what this meant for society. However, there are just as many memorable modern additions to the genre.

These action films within the cyberpunk genre range from campy martial arts movies to serious explorations of fighting techniques with deep social and cultural messages. Many of these projects blur the line between action, sci-fi, cyberpunk, and martial arts, using the features of each of these topics interchangeably. The futuristic worlds the characters belong...

‘Mercy’ Review
Image
Stars: Leah Gibson, Anthony Bolognese, Sebastien Roberts, Anthony Konechny, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jon Voight | Written by Alex Wright | Directed by Tony Dean Smith

Die Hard came out thirty-five years ago and we’re still seeing a steady stream of knock-offs rip-offs and cash-ins arriving. Case in point, Mercy, which like last year’s Assault on Va-33 puts a hospital under siege. Can the filmmakers deliver an entertaining action film, or is this, like so many other similar films, Doa?

While serving in Afghanistan Dr. Michelle Miller had her husband turn up as a patient in her field hospital, worse he had a bomb strapped to him. This leads to an agonized, and agonizing, exchange of dialogue “Get out Michelle, somebody’s got to be there for Bobby!” “No, I’m not leaving you!” followed by Frank rolling off the table so his detonation somehow doesn’t kill her.

Now she...

Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving in V pour Vendetta (2005)
Interview: The Soska Sisters on the UK’s Horror Channel, their films ‘Vendetta’ & ‘Bob’ and more!
Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving in V pour Vendetta (2005)
Ahead of Horror Channel’s UK TV premiere of Vendetta (part of the Vengeance season), the Soska Sisters reflect on their life-long love of wrestling, getting revenge, and their next, long-waited original film Bob.

You’re back on Horror Channel. Excited?

Jen: Deliriously. We love the Horror Channel! It’s our favourite place to be. Thank you for having us back!

Sylvia: Love the Horror Channel. It feels a little odd because you guys usually are the first to show our work and Vendetta showed up late. I won’t even begin to mention the long-awaited Hellevator.

Finally, your UK fans get to see Vendetta on British TV!

Jen: I’m so happy it Vendetta has finally invaded British airwaves. The UK has always been so gracious and supportive of us and our work leading back to the Dead Hooker in a Trunk days. It’s only fitting to have Vendetta follow suit.

Exclusive Interview: Jen and Sylvia Soska on Action Cinema, Being the Underdogs and More for Vendetta
On Friday, June 12th, Jen and Sylvia Soska are taking on the action genre with their latest film, Vendetta, which will be arriving on VOD and hitting select theaters nationwide. The film co-stars Dean Cain and Paul Wight (aka The Big Show) as adversaries who end up in the same prison together and will stop at nothing to try and destroy each other. Vendetta also co-stars Michael Eklund and Ben Hollingsworth and was produced by WWE Studios (who was also behind the Soska’s previous film, See No Evil 2).

Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to sit down and chat with both Jen and Sylvia about Vendetta and their experiences collaborating with both Cain and Wight for the gritty actioner. The Soskas also chatted about being underdogs going into the project, the importance of keeping the fight sequences grounded in reality and what we can expect from their newly announced project,...
