In the hours after the announcement of the nominees for the 77th annual awards, we reflect on the omissions that stung the most, the long-shot picks we were most proud of predicting and discuss the early state of the Best Musical race.

Sam Eckmann: David, I have spent the morning pouring over the 2024 Tony nominations and switching between delight and disbelief when I look at the surprises and omissions in this lineup. It’s safe to say that this was by far the most packed and competitive season we have covered together, so while I didn’t get a perfect score with my predictions, I was more than happy with my performance. While there is much to cheer in these nominations, I can’t help but feel sad for many people.

John Mulaney opened up about his struggles with addiction, his time in rehab, and a memorable call he received from Lorne Michaels about John Belushi during his appearance on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman.

At the start of the episode, Mulaney spoke about his stint in rehab a few years ago, which became a big part of his 2023 stand-up special, Baby J. At one point, he recalled a particularly low point in his detox when he was grinding his teeth so much that one of his molars cracked.

Apple Original Films announced today that Matthew Vaughn’s action comedy romance feature film Argylle will make its global streaming debut on Apple TV+ beginning Friday, April 12.

Released in theaters on February 2, 2024, the film was rated PG-13 by the MPA for strong violence, action, and some strong language. The film grossed $95.3 million at the worldwide box office, with $45.2 million coming from North American theaters and $50.1 million from international markets.

Maya Rudolph reunited with her former Saturday Night Live castmate Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Tuesday night, where they reminisced over co-star Will Ferrell’s behind-the-scenes antics at Studio 8H.

Fallon asked Rudolph if she remembered a character that the Anchorman star created on set.

“Are you talking about Chip Kudrow or Ron?” interrupted Rudolph.

The host noted that the character he was thinking of was Chip Kudrow, a persona that Ferrell used for an ongoing bit, where he pretended to be Lisa Kudrow’s brother.

Rudolph explained, “Will Ferrell had a character named Chip Kudrow who would just show up at our pitch meetings.”

The slashing that began with “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” will continue in Max’s upcoming “Pretty Little Liars: Summer School,” and Cosmopolitan unveiled first look images at the upcoming second season that promises to go bigger and badder on the slasher sequel mayhem.

Chip and Joanna Gaines are set to celebrate ten years of their renovation series Fixer Upper!

The series first premiered in 2013 on HGTV and aired for five seasons, before going off the air. It was rebooted as Fixer Upper: Welcome Home and premiered in 2021 on their newly launched Magnolia Network in 2021.

Since then, they have done spinoff seasons, like Fixer Upper: The Castle and the most recent Fixer Upper: The Hotel.

Now, they have a new renovation project hitting screens in Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse!

Disney took legal action against Marvel over the character Howard the Duck, demanding a redesign. Howard the Duck faced controversy due to his similarities to Donald Duck, but his adventures were more mature and surreal. Despite legal battles and ownership changes, Howard the Duck remained unchanged, proving the original design was the best.

Disney was so outraged by one MCU hero, it redesigned the character on Marvel’s behalf. In 1973, Howard the Duck entered the Marvel Universe. At the time, there was no other character like him–a talking, cynical, anthropomorphic duck who wanted nothing more than to be left alone. Composer Lorne Balfe has spent his career working on blockbusters including “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” but even so, Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller “Argylle,” which features an all-star cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell and Henry Cavill, was one for the books. For a start, the soundtrack incorporates the Beatles’ last-ever record, “Now and Then,” the existence of which Balfe had to keep top secret for over a year until it was finally released last November.

The two actors joined their adorable furry co-star Chip the Cat at the Argylle special experience hosted by Universal Pictures, Apple Original Films, and Marv on Monday (January 22) in London.

Director Matthew Vaughn was also in attendance.
