Wild Blue, a spiritual successor to Star Fox, has officially been announced to be in development by Humble Games. The original Star Fox, first released for the Snes in 1993, was immensely popular in its day for its revolutionary 3D graphics. It spawned six mainline sequels over the years, including the release of Star Fox 2 some 30 years late, exclusive to Nintendo's revamped Snes Classic. Star Fox - along with the titular character himself - has since become a bit of a Nintendo icon, although they've scarcely gotten any of their own releases in recent years.
All that's about to change, though, with the reveal of Wild Blue, a Star Fox spiritual successor newly revealed to be in development in a world premiere trailer during today's Humble Games Showcase. An on-rails aerial space combat shooter, it hearkens back to the old-school Star Fox games in both gameplay and visuals. It's now in development by Chuhai Labs,...

A comedy, a bloodbath, and social commentary all at once, Cabin in the Woods was the directorial debut of well-known sci-fi writer Drew Goddard. It was the first collaboration between Goddard and actor Chris Hemsworth (a relationship which would later be expounded upon in 2018's Bad Times at the El Royale). Cabin in the Woods also marks one of many repeated collaborations between Goddard and Joss Whedon.
Goddard and Whedon previously worked together on the beloved TV classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Having established a mutual love for horror and the slasher genre, Goddard and Whedon reportedly wrote the script for Cabin in the Woods together in just three days. Sometimes a movie has every quality it should have to succeed, but ultimately falls by the wayside. Bad Times at the El Royale, the brain-child of otherwise bankable filmmaker Drew Goddard, is one such example. Goddard, who wrote, directed, and produced the noir thriller, is an Academy-Award winner for the screenplay of The Martian and penned extremely popular thrillers like World War Zand Cloverfield. He also wrote episodes of cultural landmark television shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lost.
Directorially, he made his debut with 2011's Cabin in the Woods, a horror-satire that also starred Chris Hemsworth. With a resume such as this one, the fact that Bad Times at the El Royale flopped in the way it did is certainly an anomaly. The commercial failure of the film is made even more puzzling when you consider how star-studded it is: Chris Hemsworth, Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Bridges, Dakota Johnson,...

ABC has handed an early Season 2 renewal to its breakout new crime drama High Potential. The light procedural starring Kaitlin Olson joins ABC’s flagship comedy Abbott Elementary in securing a spot on the network’s 2025-26 schedule. High Potential also joins the other standout 2024-25 freshman drama, CBS’ Matlock, in landing an early Season 2 renewal. Both were series originally ordered for last season but delayed due of the strikes.
The size of High Potential‘s Season 2 order is Tbd but is expected to be larger than Season 1, which consists of 13 episodes. Because of the show’s atypical production schedule and Olson’s commitment to her other series regular job on FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, filming on Season 1 had to wrap after its initial 13-episode order.

The Martian is hailed as a faithful adaptation of the bestselling novel. However, the movie would have been stuck in development hell without Ridley Scott at the helm.
The Martian is Ridley Scott's highest-grossing film to date. Critics and audiences agree it's also one of Scott's best movies, a thrilling story of a castaway in space. Based on Andy Weir's 2011 novel, The Martian follows a stranded American astronaut, struggling to survive and escape the Martian landscape. The premise has all the earmarks of a survival drama, but the film's comedic undertones proved otherwise. This was confirmed in 2016 when the Oscars and Golden Globes nominated The Martian as Best Picture, Musical or Comedy; Scott validated this decision during a roundtable interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Last April, we learned that The Martian writer and The Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard had been tapped to helm a new Matrix movie for Warner Bros. Discovery.
Rumours of a reboot or spin-off have persisted for years, and while we don't know which category this one will fall into, this could mark a return to form for the franchise.
The Matrix was released in 1999 to widespread acclaim, with The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions following in 2003. They didn't receive anywhere near as warm a response as the original, and Lana returned to the property (minus Lilly) in 2021 for The Matrix Resurrections. That once again struggled to strike a chord with fans and was widely deemed a disappointment.

Last April, we heard the exciting news: Drew Goddard, known for The Martian and The Cabin in the Woods, was chosen to direct a new Matrix film for Warner Bros. Discovery. Fans have speculated about a reboot or spin-off for years, and this project might finally deliver.
The original Matrix movie, released in 1999, was a massive hit. Its sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, both came out in 2003 but didn’t capture the same enthusiasm. In 2021, Lana Wachowski returned (without Lilly) to direct The Matrix Resurrections, but it also struggled with fans.
We still don’t know if original stars like Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, or Hugo Weaving will join this new venture. However, a rumor from @MyTimeToShineH (via the Sff Gazette) suggests that Ariana Grande could be one of the leads in Goddard’s Matrix. This would be a big leap for Grande, especially after her praised role in Wicked.

High Potential has been a big hit, with just two episodes of Season 1 set to air on ABC in the coming weeks. While a second season seems likely, series creator Drew Goddard says the show, led by It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Kaitlin Olson, came with some creative challenges.

Lost is still one of the most beloved (and divisive) TV shows ever released. The hit drama/mystery first aired on ABC in 2004, as the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 crash-landed on the mysterious island, forced to fight every day to survive in the harsh and mysterious wilderness. Lost recently gained a second life in 2024, after all six seasons were added to Netflix. The move to streaming renewed interest in the acclaimed series which defined "water cooler talk" during the '00s. With the newfound fan base, many are calling for a potential revival/reboot, something which series writer, Drew Goddard, isn't ruling out.

Lost became an instant hit when the series debuted on ABC in 2004. Over two decades later, one of the show's writers, Drew Goddard, addressed the possibility of revisiting the franchise.
Speaking to Variety, Goddard said that while there have been no official discussions about a revival, he will never rule out the possibility. I'd only be interested if we felt like we could do something special and new within the construct of the show. And then some of it just comes down to time and appetite. So there's no plan for it today. But never say never."

It's been nearly a year since we first learned of plans for Drew Goddard to write and direct a new Matrix movie. Rumours of a reboot or spin-off have persisted for years (the prequel starring Michael B. Jordan as a young Morpheus never came to fruition) but we've heard very little about this effort since it was announced by Warner Bros. Discovery.
Goddard, best known for writing The Martian and directing The Cabin in the Woods (he also worked on Netflix's Daredevil and the unmade Sinister Six movie for Sony Pictures), will have a helping hand from franchise co-creator Lana Wachowski who has boarded the project as an executive producer.
Yesterday, Will Smith shared a cryptic Instagram post addressing his now-infamous decision to pass on the role of Neo in 1999's The Matrix to instead star in Wild Wild West.

Are you ready for a Holes TV series? No? Well, that’s too damn bad! According to Variety, a TV series based on the best-selling book by Louis Sachar has been ordered to pilot at Disney+.
The original Holes novel follows “the story of Stanley Yelnats, an unlucky boy who is sent to a juvenile detention camp for a crime he did not commit. Now incarcerated at Camp Green Lake, Stanley is forced to spend his days digging holes in a dry lake bed. But as the story unfolds, Stanley discovers that both his own story and the story of his family are more connected to Camp Green Lake than he could have ever imagined.” The book was previously adapted into a feature film in 2003, which starred Shia Labeouf, Sigourney Weaver, Henry Winkler, Patricia Arquette, Jon Voight, and Tim Blake Nelson.

Phang and Mankin executive produce with Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg of Goddard Textiles; the movie’s producer Mike Medavoy; Walden Media, which was behind the 2003 feature; as well as rights holder Shamrock. 20th Television, where Goddard is under a first-look deal, is the studio.

Drew Goddard didn’t have any designs on returning to broadcast. But then ABC asked him to take a look at the French-Belgian series “Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (Hpi)” — and it immediately inspired to turn it into the Alphabet primetime procedural “High Potential.”
“The last thing I wanted to do at that time was go back to network television,” Goddard says. “Not because I have any disdain for network television. It’s just, I know what a grind and how hard network television is. And yet when I saw the show, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s pretty special. That approach feels very unique.’ Putting the single mom in the center of the police procedural felt necessary to right now, and more importantly, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.”

A new report has poured cold water on the speculation that King Richard and Bad Boys: Ride or Die star Will Smith is involved with the next Matrix movie. The actor famously turned down the chance to play the lead character Neo in the original 1999 The Matrix film, with the role eventually going to Keanu Reeves.
Drew Goddard (The Martian) is attached to write and direct the Matrix franchise's fifth movie installment, and sources confirmed to Variety that Smith is not involved with the project. The rumor of the Academy Award-winning actor's involvement began on Monday after he posted a cryptic message on his Instagram recalling his rejection of the Neo role. Smith's post, which he writes in third person, reads, "In 1997, the Wachowskis offered Will Smith the role of Neo in 'The Matrix.' Smith turned it down. Will Smith took to social today and made everyone think he’s starring in the next Matrix movie in development at Warner Bros.
“In 1997, the Wachowskis offered Will Smith the role of Neo in The Matrix. Smith turned it down. He chose Wild Wild West, believing it was a better fit for him at the time. But the question remains: What would The Matrix have been like with Will Smith as Neo?”
“Wake up Will…”
“The Matrix has you…”
But sources say Smith is not attached to the new Matrix movie. The whole tease is connected to a new music project that Smith has underway. The last album he released was back in 2005, “Lost and Found” which featured the hit single, “Switch” which peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Smith’s third and last Hot 100 top 10. Last April, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that Drew Goddard had been tapped to write and direct a new Matrix movie. Rumours of a reboot or spin-off have persisted for years, and while we don't know which category this project will fall into, the news excited fans of the franchise.
Goddard, best known for writing The Martian and directing The Cabin in the Woods (he also worked on Daredevil and Sony Pictures unmade Sinister Six movie), will be joined by franchise co-creator Lana Wachowski as executive producer.
Today, the question on everyone's lips is whether the movie will star Will Smith...as Neo?!
The Oscar-winner famously passed on the role to instead star in Wild Wild West. As a result, Keanu Reeves was cast as the iconic character and the rest, as they say, is history. However, a reboot could change things.

The Martian featuring actor Matt Damon is one of the most celebrated movies out there and took the sci-fi genre by storm when it was released in 2015. The plot of the movie centers around an astronaut’s survival on Mars after being accidentally left behind, while NASA works tirelessly to bring him back to Earth. While many were impressed with Damon’s acting, director Ridley Scott also left no stone unturned to make the movie as grand as possible.

Matt Damon’s The Martian would totally become a different movie if the original plan for the project pushed through. His collaboration with Ridley Scott was a massive critical success, so perhaps there was a reason why they had to face challenges first.

With the release of ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Knull – the King in Black is being finally introduced to live-action. Kelly Marcel, the movie’s writer, and director stated that Knull is not supposed to be the main villain of ‘Venom 3’ but rather just a tease of what’s to come in the future for the character.
Ever since Knull was teased in the upcoming movie’s trailer, industry insiders claimed that Knull will play a massive role in the future of the MCU, to be more specific, in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4’ flick.
According to various reports The King in Black is supposed to be the main villain of the upcoming Spider-Man flick, and tear down the fabric of the Multiverse – it seems plausible enough, especially taking into account that Knull is a multiversal villain in nature
But, what if Knull is not really setting up ‘Spider-Man 4’ but rather the rumored ‘Sinister Six’ movie?...

Drew Goddard's experience in the entertainment industry is as vast as it is celebrated. Being connected with elevated classics, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel will do that. The television writer got his start in the writer's room and has gone on to even greater heights. The scribe for Ridley Scott's humorous and emotional sci-fi film, The Martian, Goddard was also the mastermind behind one of Netflix's grittiest Marvel ventures. He became Daredevil's showrunner, which lasted three seasons and is still a metric to which many Marvel shows are held.
Goddard's entertainment pedigree is so wide-ranging that he even had the chance to pen a few episodes of one of the biggest shows of the '00s. Premiering in 2004, Lost had the world in the grips of its mysterious and often confounding hands. The series was the largest ensemble drama of the time, telling a character-driven story on a mysterious island.

Hulu has greenlighted Phony, a comedy pilot starring and executive produced by Connie Britton, from Drew Goddard’s Goddard Textiles and 20th Television.
Written, directed and executive produced by Nick Paley (Marcel The Shell With Shoes On), Phony is a comedic coming-of-age mystery about a teenager, Sonny, who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident to discover his mom — his only parent and his best friend — appears to have been replaced by an impostor.
Britton will play Sonny’s single mom Ellen and the principal of his high school.
The pilot brings Britton back to her comedy roots — she started her career with an arc on Ellen before landing a lead role opposite Michael J. Fox on Spin City.
Britton and Paley executive produce Phony alongside Charlie Alderman of Charlie’s Production Company and Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg via Goddard Textiles. Goddard Textiles’ Andrea Massaro is a producer.

Despite past setbacks, Sony Pictures remains committed to making a Sinister Six film, originally planned during ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ era. Drew Goddard, known for ‘Cabin in the Woods,’ once wrote a script for the ambitious project.
His version would have brought together villains like Rhino, Green Goblin, Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, and Kraven the Hunter to face Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, exploring themes of conflict and redemption.
In a 2021 Collider interview, Garfield reflected on the project:
“I had a few meetings, and it was really exciting. I love Drew’s unique and unconventional creative choices… it would’ve been cool.”
Although the MCU now features Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Sony continues building its Spider-Man Universe (Ssu) with mixed success. While ‘Venom’ has performed well, others like ‘Morbius’ and ‘Madame Web’ have fallen short.
If upcoming films like ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ and ‘Kraven the Hunter’ fail to meet expectations, the...

Despite previous setbacks, Sony Pictures is persistently pursuing a ‘Sinister Six’ film, originally planned during the era of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’. Drew Goddard, celebrated for ‘Cabin in the Woods’, had once penned a script for this ambitious project.
His storyline would have united notorious adversaries such as Rhino, Green Goblin, Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, and Kraven the Hunter against Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-Man, exploring themes of conflict and redemption.
Andrew Garfield reflected on the project’s potential during a 2021 Collider interview, saying:
‘I don’t know how close it got, but I definitely had a few meetings, and it was really exciting. I’ve got to say, because I love Drew so much… We just got on like a house on fire.
I loved his vision, he’s so unique and odd and off-kilter and unconventional in his creative choices. So that was definitely a fun couple of months,...

Sony Pictures has been trying to get a Sinister Six movie off the ground for years, and the closest the project came to making it to the screen was when Drew Goddard was attached to write and direct a spin-off of the now defunct The Amazing Spider-Man franchise.
Goddard had actually completed his script before the movie was scrapped, and the story would reportedly have focused on a group of villains doing battle with Andrew Garfield's wall-crawler before ultimately finding redemption.
Garfield spoke about his involvement with the project during a 2021 interview with Collider.
