Going into the fourth season of “The Righteous Gemstones,” costume designer Christina Flannery didn’t know that this year was going to be the show’s swan song — or perhaps more accurately, after Episode 8, its gator song. Series creator and star Danny McBride kept that information close to the chest during the prep process, but Flannery told IndieWire that knowing whether or not there would be more “Gemstones” hardly mattered.
By the time the show had gotten to the civil war prelude that opens Season 4, to say nothing of the troubled production process of “Teenjus” and Eli’s (John Goodman) equally troubled retirement, there was no bucket list left for the costume design team. The challenge and the joy of designing for “The Righteous Gemstones” is that it has been maximalist from the very start. Finding new degrees of colorful suits, flowing capes, and animal print jumpsuits supported the show’s tone from the beginning,...

Gareth Evans’s Havoc has a setup as elementally simple as the filmmaker’s 2011 breakout The Raid: Redemption and its 2014 sequel: A grizzled detective, Walker (Tom Hardy), fights his way through a gang war in a city plagued by urban rot, along the way uncovering that the highest echelons of society have ties to the drug-peddling underworld. Along the way, he puts down one gangster after another in violent fashion.
It’s established immediately that Walker is a capable but crooked detective whose history of taking dirty money puts him at the mercy of higher-ups. One such figure, Lawrence Beaumont (Forest Whitaker), comes to Walker when word gets out that the politician’s son, Charlie (Justin Cornwell), is the chief suspect in a drug robbery gone bad and on the run from both police and cartel soldiers. “Don’t forget,” Beaumont growls, “I know what you did,” threatening to expose...

Gangs Of London has always been best appreciated as an alternate-reality affair — a bit like John Wick, except people drive on the left and there’s no hotel for hitmen (though there may be an assassins-only greasy spoon we’ve not seen yet). In this London the roads are free of traffic, nobody uses public transport, and a bullet-spewing gang war can rage without being interrupted by the police, whose response times are apparently glacial. It’s a fantasy-crime slayground where anything can happen, as long as that “anything” is deadly serious and intensely, gratuitously violent. In short, if you’re willing to suspend disbelief, and aren’t squeamish, it’s a pugilistic hoot.
Despite another change of showrunners (South Korean director Kim Hong-Sun and lead writer/exec producer Peter McKenna taking over from Season 2’s Corin Hardy and Season 1’s Gareth Evans...

There's a reason "The Office" remains so beloved more than a decade after its ninth and final season ended in 2013. In fact, there are several reasons, from the cast to the writing to the way in which the early episodes, at least, felt like they were giving you a glimpse into the lives of real people who just happened to have an absolutely twisted weirdo as a boss. But the show was also just packed with some incredibly funny moments that remain forever embedded in fans' memories. From the disastrous dinner date at Michael (Steve Carrell) and Jan (Melora Hardin)'s house to the legendary fire drill cold open that began one of the best and most chaotic episodes of "The Office," the series' already hilarious tone was punctuated by so many of these comedic high-points.

Ian Buchanan had been through some rollicking times as Dr. James Warwick on The Bold and the Beautiful. While his involvement with the villainous Sheila was full of surprises, including their marriage, they were on the outs at one point. Looking for solace, he kissed Stephanie Forrester, and Sheila witnessed it. Despite the danger that James was in, his alter ego survived and has remained friends with Stephanie’s portrayer, Susan Flannery, all these years later.

In an interview with the new PBS SoCal digital series Locationland, location manager Danny Finn describes the kismet moment when he discovered that the house used for Freaky Friday in 2003 was still standing and still owned by the same woman. Even better, she was open to allowing it to be used again for Disney’s August 2025 release, Freakier Friday.
“I called and got an old, robotic answering machine, left a Hail Mary voicemail,” Finn recalled. “Two minutes later I got a call from an unknown number and this voice answered, ‘Hi. It’s Me. Yes, I still live here. Same house, new husband, all good.’ So we ended up shooting there, which was wonderful.”
Then, last week, everything changed.
“We’ve since confirmed that that house — along with every house on that block — was lost in the Palisades Fire,” he told Locationland.

John Krasinski was awarded with People’s Sexiest Man Alive title this year and honestly, it’s absolutely worth it. Right from the time we saw him breaking the fourth wall and staring at us in The Office, the actor has captivated our hearts like no other. Clearly, his admirers are not limited and even actors can’t help but admire the man’s undeniable beauty. This includes his former co-star, Kate Flannery.

Kate Flannery played the role of the eccentric Meredith Palmer, who took Casual Fridays a bit too seriously. The actress recently commented on John Krasinski’s win and announced that the title was long overdue. She believes that he should have won as early as 2005. But hey, at least we got there. On the face of it, The Office seems like a straightforward sitcom with relatable storylines that fans can't get enough of. And for the most part, it is. However, keeping the series fun and unpredictable, there are a few stunts thrown in along the way, namely from Meredith. The office setting makes it seem like nothing too out of the ordinary would happen. The employees of Dunder Mifflin go to work, and each make their contribution to the success of the paper merchants. Once viewers get to know the array of characters, it quickly becomes clear that almost anything could happen. Despite Dwight hiding weapons around the office and Michael burning his foot on a grill, the writers and actors managed to maintain a believable environment for the show to be based in.

Anna Delvey is officially a contestant on Season 33 of Dancing With The Stars. And, one former star of the show is not fond of the shocking cast decision.
Kate Flannery Speaks Out Against Anna Delvey
Kate Flannery, who competed in Season 28 of DWTS, recently spoke about how she feels about Anna joining the show. And she is not a fan, to say the very least.
“We don’t need that vibe. She’s not a dancer. We can do better than that,” The Office actress snapped.

Flannery went on to say that choosing her might end in the show taking a viewership hit. “If they’re looking to get more people to watch the show, I don’t think that’s the way to go,” she said.

Consider actress Kate Flannery among those who disagree with Anna Delvey’s participation in Dancing with the Stars.
Flannery, best known as Meredith Palmer on The Office, competed in Season 28 of the dance competition show.
She partnered with professional dancer Pasha Pashkov and got eliminated fifth overall.
Contestants from Flannery’s season may have been considered controversial, including former NFL star Ray Lewis, former NBA star Lamar Odom, and former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
However, Delvey’s Season 33 appearance is highly controversial because she was convicted on eight charges after posing as a German heiress in New York to defraud wealthy entities of significant funds.
Everyone from disgruntled fans to The View’s Joy Behar and former DWTS dancer Cheryl Burke has reacted to Delvey’s controversial inclusion in the cast.
Flannery is the latest to offer critical remarks objecting to the fake heiress and criminal participating in the competition.

Exclusive: Fans of The Bold and the Beautiful were gobsmacked by the decision to supposedly kill off Kimberlin Brown’s Sheila Carter in a February episode — only to bring her back from the dead two months later.
Brown told Deadline “she didn’t see this coming, quite honestly .. I truly believe that my following and my fans and the people who have loved to hate Sheila all these years are responsible for me coming back.”
For the first time, Bell is addressing his decision to bring back the character that everyone loves to hate. While he didn’t say whether he changed his mind (or if it was all part of some secret master plan to throw off fans), he explained why it was necessary to temporarily part ways with Sheila.
“Villains typically need a cooling off period, which just adds to the drama to their return,” Bell tells Deadline.

Ernest Hemingway’s final novel, Across the River and Into the Trees, isn’t exactly known to be among his best works, so it’s probably no surprise that it took quite a while for anyone to adapt it to the cinematic medium. Director Paula Ortiz’s adaptation is fine, if unremarkable, elevated by its excellent cast and impressive production values.
Across the River and Into the Trees Review
The film follows a US Army Colonel who receives a life-changing diagnosis but meets it with indifference, taking a sojourn through post-wwii Venice. Those familiar with Hemingway’s work won’t be surprised by what Across the River and Into the Trees has in store — it’s poignantly meditative and incredibly simple. However, there is an undeniable elegance in that simplicity that allows this to be a charming drama.

The Library of Congress, the Better Angels Society, Ken Burns and the Crimson Lion/Lavine Family Foundation have unveiled six finalists for the sixth annual Library of Congress Lavine/Ken Burns Prize for Film. The $200,000 cash award, established in 2019, recognizes late-stage documentaries that use original research and a compelling narrative to tell stories that bring American history to life through archival materials.
The six projects that were selected are: James Sorrels’s “Area 2,” John Benitz’s “Behind the Lines,” Julia Greenberg and Dianna Dilworth’s “Dory Previn: On My Way to Where,” Norah Shapiro’s “Magic & Monsters,” Asaf Galay’s “Out of the Inkwell: The Greatest Story Never Told,” and Marlene McCurtis’ “Wednesdays in Mississippi.”
This year close to 100 American history documentary features were submitted for consideration.

Ethan Hawke’s directorial film, Wildcat takes a close look at renowned Southern Gothic writer Flannery O’Connor’s life. The film consciously does not delve into the controversies revolving around the author, and instead focuses on the reappearing subject matter in her work. For those not familiar with her writing (like me), “Wildcat” is a decent introduction to generate interest amongst viewers. The explainer is solely based on the film and not on Flannery O’Connor’s literary work.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, O’Connor (played by Maya Hawke) firmly believed that she was an instrument of God and that writing was not just her way of expressing herself but also serving the Almighty. Be it her publisher or her family, O’Connor was always reminded that her work was unusual and might not appeal to a larger audience, but that never deterred Flannery’s confidence. Eyes follow Anya Taylor-Joy whenever she steps on a red carpet, and the descriptions of her ensembles that follow often include adjectives like glamorous, ethereal, angelic, and the like. “She’s one of my fashion girls — she loves fashion and is very spirited when it comes down to it.” So says veteran stylist Petra Flannery about one of her A-list longtime clients, Zoe Saldaña. And it shows. The actress, who moves seamlessly from blockbuster franchises like Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy to indie fare like Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Perez, the film that leads her back to the Palais this year, catches eyes whenever she steps on a red carpet. On the eve of her return, Flannery looks back on their memorable Cannes collaborations and teases what to expect this year: “The beautiful premiere moments are a really magical stage for fashion. These are the moments that we live for.”

It’s been a rough few weeks for indies but May is here with a handful of hopefuls looking to rev up the market — from A24’s buzzy I Saw The TV Glow to Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Venice award-winning Evil Does Not Exist. A documentary about Anita Pallenberg featuring Scarlett Johansson hits theaters, with a French animated sci-fi set on Mars, and a Flannery O’Conner biopic by Ethan Hawke.
I Saw The TV Glow is written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun (We’re All Going To The World’s Fair) and produced by Emma Stone under her Fruit Tree Banner. The horror-thriller that gripped Sundance (Deadline review called it a “trippy gut punch”) then SXSW follows a teenager named Owen trying to make it through life in the suburbs. The weirdness starts when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show, a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own.

Full disclosure: I’ve been looking forward to this interview ever since I read the novel Ash Wednesday as a teenager. Ethan Hawke, co-writer and director of Wildcat, is an actor and filmmaker who has been as important to me as any artist in my life. The opportunity to discuss his new film––a feverish, faith-fueled look into the life of writer Flannery O’Connor as inspired by her fiction––with Hawke was both welcome and daunting.
The film stars Maya Hawke as O’Connor, alongside a stellar supporting cast that includes Laura Linney, Philip Ettinger, Rafael Casal, Steve Zahn, Cooper Hoffman, Willa Fitzgerald, Alessandro Nivola, and Liam Neeson. Ahead of the film’s release this Friday, we talk about the intimidation of adapting a great writer’s work, the joy of filming a great scene in a master shot, and inviting your audience into the conversation.

In the 1990s and 2000s, May (and specifically Memorial Day) typically marked the beginning of Summer Movie Season. Multiplexes nationwide were packed to the emergency exits with big names, big explosions and (presumably) big box office. The film industry has changed since then, obviously, and summer no longer packs the same high-octane punch that it once did. But in this evolution, release schedule space has opened up for a stellar month of Don’t-Miss Indies titles.

In March 2020, during the first days of the Covid pandemic, IndieWire launched an Instagram Live series. The idea was to hold a causal conversation with talent about their creative process and how they spend their free time, a discussion that took on a very different meaning against the uncertain backdrop of the lockdown. IndieWire instinctively turned to Ethan Hawke to launch the series and set the tone; and at a time when most creatives understandably went dark, Hawke was hungry for the conversation.
Later that summer, the actor-writer-director gave a Ted-Ed talk, “Give yourself permission to be creative.” Even if you haven’t watched the nine-minute talk, you’ve seen it: Excerpts, four years later, still flood most social media feeds on a daily basis.
In the most viral clip, Hawke, discussing what happens to people when they suffer a great loss, said, “Did anyone feel like this before? What is happening to me?...

Josh O’Connor would very much love to fuck off into the woods with a stick.
It’s a deceptively warm April day in New York City and O’Connor, who looks brighter than anyone who was awake before the sun has a right to look, is hunched over conspiratorially to share what music he’s currently listening to. It’s where he got the idea of fucking off — central lyrics to Irish blues singer Mick Flannery’s “Fuck Off World”: “Fuck off world/Fuck off politics/I’m going...

Ethan and Maya Hawke Almost Abandoned ‘Wildcat’ After Discovering Flannery O’Connor’s Racist Letters
“Wildcat” director Ethan Hawke was introduced to the books of Flannery O’Connor by his mother, but it was his then-teenaged daughter, Maya, who introduced him to a more personal side of the writer.
Maya Hawke, then a teenager looking for something original to recite for her Julliard audition, dug into O’Connor’s “Prayer Journal,” which captured the young, yet-to-be-published writer searching for meaning in journal entries she addressed to God. When Maya’s acting career took off with “Stranger Things,” and she approached O’Connor’s age writing the journal entries, Maya optioned the rights and asked her father to develop them into a film for her to portray O’Connor.
It was deep into the scriptwriting process that Ethan was introduced to yet another, far uglier side of O’Connor: Paul Elie’s 2020 New Yorker article, “How Racist Was Flannery O’Connor?” featured bigoted quotes from O’Connor’s personal correspondences.

It’s no secret that Zoe Saldana usually wears black dresses, and I couldn’t blame her—black is a classic and versatile color that can effortlessly create a stylish and sophisticated appearance.
After showcasing a series of black ensembles during the promotion of “The Absence of Eden” last month, Zoe Saldana made a striking return to the red carpet. Remarkably, she appeared in two identical black dresses at events only a few days apart.

Ethan Hawke goes back behind the camera for Wildcat, and here are details of his new film – plus a trailer.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer addressed one of the popular ending theories for the upcoming fifth and final season of the hit Netflix series.
As the anticipation for Stranger Things Season 5 continues to build up, lots of theories about the show’s final chapter begin to circulate online with fans trying to figure out how it all ends. One of these theories got some fans believing that all the events that happened in Stranger Things might all just be one long Dungeons and Dragons campaign. This would suggest that Eleven, Vecna, and the characters tied to the Upside Down were never real. Speaking with Metro.co.uk at the West End premiere of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the Duffer brothers were quick to debunk the popular Dungeons and Dragons theory.
