Last year marked the 40th anniversary of the MTV Video Music Awards. The inaugural ceremony, held at Radio City Music Hall and hosted by Dan Aykroyd and Bette Midler in 1984, saw the Cars taking home video of the year their groundbreaking clip for “You Might Think.”
Since then, the VMAs have doled out 40 more trophies for their top prize, with only a small handful of acts joining the club of repeat winners. Taylor Swift has racked up five wins while Eminem, Rihanna, and Beyoncé have notched two a piece.

Green Day took a not-so-subtle dig at Will Smith as the musician and rapper faces accusations that he used artificial intelligence to beef up the look of his crowds in a recent video thanking fans.

Imagine if Michael Haneke’s “Funny Games” were instead about a pair of lone-wolf, conservationist vigilantes trying to save the world instead of two sociopathic twinks wanting to tear it down, and you’ll have some idea of the hyper-contained, rigorously controlled torture chamber that is Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia.”
Jesse Plemons stars as a galaxy-brained conspiracist beekeeper who’s either severely mentally ill or the only prophet among us, hijacking his cousin (Aidan Delbis) into a scheme to kidnap a big pharma executive (Emma Stone) whom he believes to be a body-snatched alien sent to end the planet.
Lanthimos works from an on-the-nose-for-the-now feature screenplay by “Succession” and “The Menu” writer Will Tracy, diverting from the droll theater of cruelty present in scripts by Efthimis Filippou (“Kinds of Kindness”) or the florid repartee of Tony McNamara. “Bugonia” has all the streak of Tracy’s kill-the-rich brand of satire, but with...

Buried way down in the end credits is an acknowledgment that Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia is based on the film Save the Green Planet! Audiences familiar with that 2003 Korean sci-fi comedy, written and directed by Jang Joon Hwan, will be at a distinct disadvantage in terms of surprises. But for anyone coming fresh to the American remake, there are plenty of weird twists, explosive violence, bursts of slapstick physical comedy and satirical jabs. Either way, the pleasure of watching Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons go at it as a Big Pharma executive and a crunchy-granola conspiracy theorist is reward enough.
While Stone memorably worked with Lanthimos on The Favourite and Poor Things, she was joined by Plemons last year in the director’s enigmatic triptych, Kinds of Kindness. Their new collaboration is more satisfying than that uneven and overlong puzzle box, not to mention more readily coherent as a narrative. But...

Exclusive: Brandon Flynn (The Parenting), Elizabeth Perkins (Another Simple Favor), T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy) and Ryan Powers (She-Hulk) are set to star in Deluxe Ocean View, a psychological horror film from director Bradley Bredeweg, based on an original screenplay by Powers.
In the indie, set on the icy shores of Cape Cod, renowned exposé journalist Ethan Everett (Flynn) arrives at the empty luxury resort, Notre Joie, for a career-saving interview. But the off-season staff and guests — including the beguiling owner Vera (Perkins), unsettling manager Oliver (Knight), and charming drifter Johnny (Powers) — draw Ethan into a surreal maze of guilt, secrets, and waking nightmares that forces Ethan to confront horrors far greater than any story he’s ever uncovered. Inspired by classics like The Shining and Mulholland Drive, the film unravels a story of guilt, deception, and how far we’ll go to outrun the past.
Simona Paparelli Wolf is producing under Sorry, Mom Pictures, alongside Powers for R U Mad At Me Productions and Emmy nominee Jason B. Stamey, who also served as casting director.
“I am honored to join this talented team of actors and producers to bring a bold, unsettling vision to life with this character-driven psychological horror,” said Bredeweg in a statement to Deadline. “As an Lgbtqia+ storyteller, I’m drawn to narratives that challenge norms and explore the complexities of identity, judgment and redemption. Written by the prolific Ryan Powers, this film terrifies me in all the right ways because it dares to ask a question we too often avoid: What drives a person to destroy their life in a single moment?”
Known for roles in 13 Reasons Why, the Max horror-comedy The Parenting, Apple’s Manhunt, Hulu’s 2022 reboot of Hellraiser and more, Flynn is repped by Paradigm, Untitled and Schreck Rose Dapello.
A three-time Emmy nominee known for roles in Weeds, Sharp Objects and the like, Perkins has most recently been seen in Prime Video’s Another Simple Favor as well as series like Minx, The Afterparty, and The Morning Show. She is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Knight is an Emmy nominee known for his role of Dr. George O’Malley on Grey’s Anatomy who has also recently been seen on shows like The Flight Attendant and Genius. He is repped by Buchwald, Authentic Talent and Literary Management, and Paul Hastings.
Powers’ credits include She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, The Madalorian, The Nice Guys, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., to name just a few. He is repped by Atlanta Models and Talent.
A Television Academy Honoree and GLAAD Award winner, Bredeweg is best known for co-creating and showrunning The Fosters and its spinoff Good Trouble for Freeform and Hulu, as well as producing hit Broadway revivals and originals including Dear Evan Hansen, Moulin Rouge, Green Day’s American Idiot and the recent Scissorhandz on the West End. He is currently writing and directing a new Pat Benatar musical to premiere in New York City in 2026 and as a director, developed Life From the Other Side, a feature penned by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Paul Schrader. He is repped by Untitled, UTA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
The film’s producers are repped by Lastine Entertainment Law.

Michael Chiklis, who played Ben Grimm / The Thing in 2005's Fantastic Four and 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, defends the movies from the poor critic reception they received two decades ago. Marvel's First Family are back in the spotlight thanks to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which many consider to be the first time the superhero team has worked on screen. However, the nostalgia cycle has seen the 2000s films, which were criticized at the time of their release, looked back fondly on by the people who grew up with them as their first exposure to the classic Marvel heroes.
Speaking with Collider, Chiklis reflected on the lasting legacy of Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer despite poor critic reactions. He noted the films' box office grosses, noting, "We made three-quarters of $1 billion, those two movies. So, you know, all those people can...

FireAid’s organizers said Tuesday that they’ve tasked the concert’s law firm, Latham & Watkins, to review the organization’s grant process as the charitable concert faces scrutiny from President Donald Trump and a congressman in California over how the $100 million the show had raised has been doled out so far.
Trump blasted FireAid over the weekend, taking to Truth Social to call the benefit show “a total disaster” and “another democrat inspired scam,” claiming that the $100 million the concert had raised is missing. Trump’s jabs at FireAid came before he once again attacked California Governor Gavin Newsom (calling him Newscum), alleging that the governor mismanaged fire response. Meanwhile, Kevin Kiley, a Republican congressman for California’s third district, had called for the Department of Justice to investigate how FireAid disbursed its donations, claiming “none of the $100 million donated went directly to L.A. victims, and nonprofits having...

No one would mistake Billie Joe Armstrong for a supporter of Donald Trump; the Green Day frontman has routinely taken jabs at the president and his “Maga agenda” during the band’s concerts. But Armstrong seemed extra fired up during Green Day’s headlining set at Rock Werchter in Belgium on Friday — which just so happened to coincide with Independence Day and Trump’s signing of the so-called One, Big Beautiful Bill stripping Medicaid benefits from millions of Americans.

During the band’s performance of “Holiday”, Armstrong told his crew to cut the lights before leading the crowd in a chant of “Fuck Donald Trump.” While recent sets have also seen Armstrong incorporate political chants during “Holiday” (such as “Fuck Ice” and “No War”), none appear to have been as directly aimed at Trump himself.

If you’ve picked up a guitar for the first time in the last, say, three decades, odds are you’ve tried to learn Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” It’s a veritable alternative nation classic, as well as a guitar 101 standard. And so it’s no surprise that Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has started using the song as a chance to invite fans on stage to play it with him.
That’s what happened last night, June 30, when Green Day performed in Luxembourg.

Billie Joe Armstrong has long been closing Green Day shows with “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” occasionally inviting a fan up onstage to play guitar on the hit ballad. However, things took a humorous and awkward turn at the band’s concert in Luxembourg on Monday night (June 20th), when a fan decided to play the Oasis classic “Wonderwall” instead.
Video footage posted to TikTok (watch below) shows a young fan starting to play “Wonderwall,” much to the chagrin of Armstrong. The frontman exclaims, “Oh, fuck me!” in the mic, before promptly taking the guitar off the fan’s shoulder and saying, “Nice try, nice try.” The fan then appears to plead with Armstrong, but is ushered off the stage by a crew member, as the Green Day singer goes on to play “Good Riddance” himself.
Even more hilarious, Oasis singer Liam Gallagher reacted to the video posted on X/Twitter,...

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong jumped onstage with Sex Pistols Featuring Frank Carter at the Tons of Rock festival in Oslo, Norway, on Thursday (June 26th) to perform the classic “Anarchy in the U.K.”
With Green Day set to headline later in the evening, Armstrong was watching the Sex Pistols’ set from the side of the stage. About 90 seconds into the song, Armstrong ran out onto the catwalk and joined Carter in singing the punk anthem.

Emma Stone is kidnapped by Jesse Plemons for a bizarre reason in the first trailer for Bugonia, a new dark comedy from Oscar-nominated director Yorgos Lanthimos. The latest film from Lanthimos – who has received Oscar nods for The Lobster, The Favourite, and Poor Things – is an English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet! directed by Jang Joon-hwan.
Bugonia stars Stone, reuniting with Lanthimos after The Favourite, the short film Bleat, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness – alongside Plemons, reuniting with the director and actress after the latter film. The cast also includes Alicia Silverstone, reuniting with Lanthimos after The Killing of a Sacred Deer, alongside Aidan Delbis and Stavros Halkias.
Now, Focus Features has released the first official teaser trailer for Bugonia. The footage follows Plemons as a conspiracy-minded beekeeper and one of two conspiracy-minded men who kidnap a powerful corporate CEO (played by Stone), convinced...

Ryan Reynolds (Welcome to Wrexham) narrates and Green Day provides the theme song for National Geographic’s nature series Underdogs, which just debuted an official trailer. The series celebrates overlooked and underappreciated wild creatures and will premiere on National Geographic on June 15, 2025 at 9pm Et/Pt.

Technically, they saw Deadpool & Wolverine but I don’t think they absorbed much while covering their eyes and ears and screaming for two hours,” said Ryan Reynolds. “We’re so proud to elevate the unsung heroes of the natural world to the top of the entertainment food chain and can’t wait for everyone to see.”

Ryan Reynolds' new Nat Geo nature series is going where no other nature series has gone before. It's taking a deep dive into the bottom of the food chain.
A new trailer for Underdogs features nature's "Superzeroes" and a theme song by Grammy Award-winning band Green Day. The Deadpool & Wolverinestar narrates and executive produces the five-episode series that celebrates the "losers" of nature's food chain. Underdogs will focus on the "bizarre mating strategies, surprising superpowers, deception, dubious parenting skills, and gross-out behaviors," of various wild animals, the official description via The Hollywood Reporter reads.
"For over 135 years, National Geographic has gone to the ends of the earth to bring you the most stunning footage of nature ever put to film," Reynolds says in the clip. "But enough with the top of the food chain. It's time to shift our focus to the bottom. I've teamed up with Nat Geo to...

National Geographic has released the trailer and key art for Underdogs, which is narrated by Ryan Reynolds and will premiere on June 15 at 9/8c. It will be simulcast on ABC and will be available to stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
For 137 years, National Geographic has been bringing you breathtaking wildlife footage of iconic animals—penguins, elephants, whales, and more. As if those windbags need any more free PR.
Hold on to your binoculars, folks, as Nat Geo gets up close and personal with the outcasts of the animal kingdom in Underdogs. From their hidden talents to their unconventional hygiene choices to their unsavory courtship rituals, Underdogs celebrates the unique behaviors of the animals who don’t usually get to be the stars of the show.
Underdogs comes from Reynolds’ Emmy Award-winning Maximum Effort and Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Wildstar Films (a Fremantle company).

Ryan Reynolds is a proven winner, as is his soccer team Wrexham A.F.C. (ever since he and Rob McElhenney bought the club). Reynolds’ new National Geographic show, however, celebrates nothing but the Earth’s biggest losers.
Underdogs, a five-episode series narrated and executive produced by Reynolds, showcases animals on the very base level of the food chain, the kind with “bizarre mating strategies, surprising superpowers, deception, dubious parenting skills and gross-out behaviors,” per Nat Geo. This will be stuff you’ve never seen before — on Nat Geo or elsewhere — like a cave in New Zealand that “glows brighter than a bachelor pad under a black light thanks to the glowing butts of millions of mucus-coated grubs.”
Harry Gregson-Williams composed the show’s music — that’s nice. But somehow, Reynolds got Green Day to write and record the show’s theme song. Naturally, it rocks.

Fans of Green Day's American Idiot may still want to hold out hope for the oft-delayed film adaptation, according to Billie Joe Armstrong himself. In a new career-spanning piece for Variety, the Green Day frontman commented on the canceled movie, noting he thinks "eventually it’s going to happen." “There was supposed to be [a film], but it never panned out,” explained Armstrong in the piece. “I’m sure something is gonna happen. The musical did so well and they’ve done it in Australia, Italy, Germany, England … It’s traveled so well." Following the debut of the Tony-winning musical in 2010, talks of a film adaptation abounded, with director Michael Mayer, Armstrong, and Playtone Productions seemingly attached to the project. Green Day have a new movie in the works, but Billie Joe Armstrong still has his eyes on another film project — an adaptation of the American Idiot musical — that was planned but never made.
Speaking to Variety ahead of the band’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony today, Armstrong was asked about the status of the American Idiot film, based on the one-time Broadway musical. Back in 2016, HBO revealed plans to adapt the musical with Armstrong in the role of St. Jimmy, but nearly a decade later, the film remains unmade.

Update: It appears Rivers Cuomo was trolling, as a representative says Jack Black has not been cast in the Weezer movie.
Weezer revealed that they’re making a new “mockumentary”-style movie about their band while playing Coachella this month, and now, frontman Rivers Cuomo has seemingly confirmed that Jack Black will star in the film.
According to a screenshot from Weezer’s Discord (via Reddit), Cuomo shared the news with an AI-generated film poster depicting Cuomo and Black together and featuring the full band underneath them: “Weezer, costarring Jack Black” it reads. Cuomo captioned the post itself “nope, it’s real,” assumedly confirming that Black will appear in the film. The connection between Black and the group goes back decades, as Weezer and Black’s band Tenacious D toured together in 2001, and Black’s wife Tanya Haden played cello on Weezer’s 2003 cover of Green Day’s “Worry Rock.
