Amanda Lau was born in Hong Kong. She began acting at age 15 and started filmmaking the following year. She has directed, written, and starred in the short film The Gift,which won the Champion and the Best Acting in the 9th Mini-movie Competition in 2023. She was the youngest contestant in the TVB reality show, Tristar Academy.
Before Lau's career in the acting industry, she was a professional swimmer as well as a Hong Kong team finswimmer. She has represented Hong Kong and won several prizes in international finswimming competitions. She was awarded the Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards of 2018 Sports for Hope Foundation hosted by the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
