    • Chavez Ravine got her start at the Piven theatre workshop where she was mentored by the late Byrne Piven and his wife Joyce the founders of the Piven Theatre Workshop and parents of the popular Jeremy Piven with some of the best names in the business (The Cusacks, the Quinns,etc.) She quickly moved up in the theatre community earning 2 Black Theatre Alliance Award nominations and one Black Theatre Alliance Award for the lead in The Congo Square Theatre production of 'Daughters of the Mock' and a Drammy Award in Portland Oregon for her role as Alberta 'Pearl' Johnson in Black Pearl Sings! She soon branched out into film where she landed her first featured film role with MGM Studios as Tanya the soft spoken yoga instructor in BarbershopII and went on to Twentieth Century Fox in Prison Break to portray the broken-hearted hearted mother Mrs. Simmons. Chavez Ravine was proud to be a part of the short film Southern Cross which told the story about the resilience of a Southern African American family. This short film went on to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival short film corner presentation. She also played a pivotal role in the critically acclaimed film Death Of A President as Mrs. Mary Claybon which won a Toronto Film Festival International Critics FIPESCI prize
