    • China L. Colston has the ability to portray characters with a depth of vulnerability and fire. Those attributes were demonstrated in her starring role of Emon in the feature film, Dark Seed wherein she also wore the hats of producer, director and screenwriter. Moreover, Dark Seed can now be seen on NBC's Peacocktv, Amazon Prime, Tubi and FandangoNow.

      Furthermore, Dark Seed was an official selection of Chicago's Black Harvest film festival and New York's Validate Yourself film festival. Equally Important, Dark Seed was celebrated with the following: Validate Yourself Best Feature Film award, Best Actress in a Leading role award, Best Director nomination, A Black Excellence Best Feature film nomination from the African American Arts Alliance of Chicago, a Best Feature film award from S.I.T.A aka Success in the Arts organization and a Best Actress in a leading role award nomination from S.I.T.A. Additionally, her written short film, Sweet Thang was honored with a Best Short film nomination from S.I.TA.A wherein she also portrayed the title role of Sweet Thang and took on the additional role of director and producer.

      Other independent films produced, written, directed and starring or featuring her are as follows: Same Ole Same Ole, Discontinued, Journey of the Heart and Big Chops which was an official selections of Chicago's South Side film festival, Black Harvest film festival and Los Angeles Indie Short fest festival. On stage, China has been nominated with a Best Actress in an Ensemble and a Best Featured Actress in a Play by Chicago's Black Theater awards organization. Overall, she is elated to produce, direct and act in her new feature film entitled, To Cook or not to Cook during the summer of 2023.

      Most Importantly, she gives glory to GOD for blessing her with the ability to write, direct and interpret storytelling and she is thankful to her parents Emma and Allen Colston for introducing her to influential film and theater during her childhood. Lastly, she gives credit to Chicago's Eta Creative Arts foundation for nurturing and developing her acting skills through the expert instruction of her late teacher, Okoro Harold Johnson.
