Renato Russo in Renato Russo: Strani amori (1995)

Trivia

Renato Russo

Edit
  • Among his favorite film was Quadrophenia (1979), based on Quadrophenia (1979) rock opera of the same name. Similarly, two of Russo's own songs would inspire movies as well: Faroeste Caboclo (2013) and Eduardo et Monica (2020).
  • Leader of the Brazilian rock band Legião Urbana.
  • His only son, Giuliano Manfredini, was born on 29 March 1989.
  • When Renato Russo arrives in Rio from Brasília, Distrito Federal, where he was created and where he began with his rock band "Legião Urbana", he made all success in Brazil, this band is until today one of the most important rock bands of Brazil.
  • His first band was the Aborto Elétrico (Electric Abortion), beside Felipe Lemos and André Pretorius. It didn't last a lot, finishing because of fights between Felipe and Renato. The Aborto Elétrico was the seed that created the bands Legião Urbana, to the Plebe Rude and the Capital Inicial, led by Dinho Ouro-Preto.
  • Considered one of the great poets of the Brazilian music.
  • Formerly an English language teacher, having learned the language when he lived in New York.
  • Chose his stage surname "Russo" inspired by philosophers Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Bertrand Russel, as well as filmmaker Ken Russell.
  • Vowed, with Legião Urbana, to never return to their birth place of Brasilia, after a troubled concert. They really never did.
  • One of the first Brazilian public figures to be open about their sexuality. However, this aspect of his private life was left out of his biopic Somos Tão Jovens (2013), on his mother's request.
