'This England' Teaser Featuring Kenneth Branagh as Boris Johnson
Image
"You have to reign him in." Who's ready to revisit the pandemic again?! Sky TV has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a new series titled This England, with that title being spoken in a line of dialogue at the end of the trailer. It was originally pitched with the title This Sceptred Isle, but was updated for release this fall. The series follows the events surrounding Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his government in the face of the first wave of the 2020 global pandemic. It's described as a "truly unique drama that combines Michael Winterbottom's talent for conveying powerful real-world stories with a stunning performance from Kenneth Branagh." Branagh stars as Boris, with a cast featuring Ophelia Lovibond as Carrie Symonds, Andrew Buchan as Matt Hancock, plus Tim Goodman, Alec Nicholls, James Corrigan, and Simon Paisley Day as Dominic Cummings. I was expecting this to be more...

Kenneth Branagh’s Boris Johnson Series ‘This England’ Won’t Reshoot to Address Resignation
Image
It was quite the week for British politics, with the scandal leading to former Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s resignation briefly making America look tame by comparison.

After it was revealed that the controversial politician had promoted a member of Parliament to a senior whipping position despite knowledge of sexual misconduct allegations against the man, Johnson faced a series of high profile defections and resignations within his party. Though he resisted calls to resign for as long as he could — as he had done in the past — the resignations ultimately snowballed until he could no longer remain in power.

In the entertainment world, his resignation immediately prompted speculation that “This England,” an upcoming Sky miniseries starring Kenneth Branagh as Johnson, would be forced to shoot additional scenes. The show generated some buzz when it released the first footage of Johnson as Branagh, and many thought that the creative team would...

Katla (2021)
Keeley Hawes in Sci-Fi Thriller Series 'The Midwich Cuckoos' Trailer
Katla (2021)
"It felt like... I was visited." "I can feel life growing inside me." Sky TV has revealed an official trailer for an intriguing new sci-fi series debuting this summer called The Midwich Cuckoos. This is the kind of sci-fi we'll post about even if it is more TV. The film is an exciting modern-day reimagining of John Wyndham's science fiction classic novel first published in 1957. A small fictional village in England named Midwich is completely subdued by an alien presence for an entire day. Upon waking, it is discovered that numerous women in the town are pregnant. As the children of the phenomenon grow, it becomes clear they are not of this world. Sounds similar to that Icelandic series Katla recently, but with British sensibilities instead. This show stars Keeley Hawes, Max Beesley, Synnove Karlsen, Indica Watson, Alec Nicholls, Kimia Lamour, Natalia Harris, and Lara Rossi. Those kids looks super creepy!
