International film sales agency MoreThan Films has picked up sales rights to Ion de Sosa’s “Balearic” ahead of its world premiere as part of the Filmmakers of the Present section at the Locarno Film Festival (August 6-16).

“Balearic” begins with a group of teenagers on a Mediterranean island who stumble upon a big house with a pool and decide to take an illicit dip that takes a much darker turn once three large dogs come to guard the property. From there, Sosa moves the story a few miles away to follow a group of wealthy neighbors gathered at a luxurious villa to celebrate the start of summer and St. John’s Eve. In a milestone move, Sony Pictures Television has unveiled “La Academia,” its first Spanish-language scripted series filmed in Spain for Prime Video and 3Cat.

“La Academia” is produced for Sony by Brutal Media, commissioned out of Sony Pictures Television’s international production group. Spt is distributing the series worldwide.

Netflix is expanding the universe of its popular Spanish drama series Money Heist, otherwise known as La Casa De Papel.

The streamer revealed a first look at the spinoff series Berlin, which centers around the popular character also known as Andrés de Fonollosa (played by Pedro Alonso), during the fan event in São Paulo, Brazil on Saturday.

Berlin is the second-in-command of the Royal Mint of Spain heist and also planned the Bank of Spain heist, which he shared with The Professor and Palermo. The teaser introduces audiences to Berlin’s latest heist to rob one of the top auction houses in Paris.

Money Heist was created by Alex Pina and tells the story of the heists through the perspective of one of the robbers, Tokyo, played by Ursula Corbero.

This UK & South African co-production with Ida Rose & Ants Media stars team up for action thriller film Stolen directed by Sheridan De Myer. Shantelle Rochester will serve as producer along with Uzanenkosi Mahlangu. Stolen is the first installment of what is set to be an action thriller movie franchise with BET+.

Stolen stars Christine Adams, Luka Peros, Jimmy Jean Louis, Michael Landes, Alba Amira and introducing Shantelle Rochester, the story follows Seline who must use her military skills to unearth the truth of her daughter’s disappearance in South Africa as she is thrown into a world of chaos and organ trafficking.

Stolen received a grant through the International Co-production strand of the UK Global Screen Fund, financed by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (Dcms) and administered by the BFI. Ida Rose has also received support through the International Business Development strand of the UK Global Screen Fund.

Money Heist may be ending at Netflix, but the franchise will live on.

In a surprising announcement, star Pedro Alonso has announced a spinoff based on the character of Berlin/Andrés de Fonollosa is in the works at Netflix.

Alonso broke the news at a fan event on Tuesday at the Palacio Vistalegre in Madrid.

“It is a memorable moment because it is the end of one cycle and the beginning of another,” Alonso said.

“Today I was talking to Jesús Colmenar and we were saying that now we walk into the unknown, open to whatever happens and without expectations," he said.

"I know that [the Money Heist writers] will give the series every possible twist and turn."

"The responsibility [of spinning off such a popular series] can be a burden and a prison. I hope we continue to have the courage to use this wonderful energy to risk everything again.”

Money Heist, otherwise known as La Casa De Papel, is coming to an end but Netflix is expanding the heist universe.

The streamer has ordered a spinoff of the hit Spanish drama series, centered around popular character Berlin, otherwise known as Andrés de Fonollosa, played by Pedro Alonso.

As previously reported, the second half of the fifth -- and final -- season is set to launch around the world on Friday, December 3.

It’s been known for months that Part Five of Netflix’s most popular non-English language Original Series “La Casa de Papel” (“Money Heist”) would be the show’s last, and now we know when the iconic Spanish heist story will end. Luka Peros, one of the stars of Netflix’s La Casa De Papel (Money Heist), has signed with nascent management and production firm Alta Global Media.

Alta Global Media co-founder Steven Adams will represent Peros across the board.

He joins the roster alongside his Money Heist colleague Pedro Alonso, Gary Dourdan (CSI), Tamara Tunie (Almost Family) and Kierston Wareing (Fish Tank).

Peros first appeared as the mysterious Marseille in season three of the Spanish-language Netflix drama and was promoted to series regular in season four. He returns for the fifth and final season. Marseille is a former hitman, whom the professor enlists for an elaborate heist of the Bank of Spain.

Elsewhere, Peros featured in The Spanish Princess mini-series and in feature Papillon, alongside Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek.

The signing comes after the launch of Alta Global Media earlier this year by Adams (A Huey P. Newton Story) and Theo Dumont.

La Casa De Papel, better known as Money Heist, is coming to an end with its fifth and final season.

Netflix has renewed the Spanish drama for a final, fifth run, where the heist will come to an end. Season four, which consisted of eight episodes, launched in April.
